After some meticulous training in Victory Road, taking careful steps to save and check the experience points of everyone after a battle, boxing the danger zones, and taking a long time, I finally grouped all of my 6 original teammates together and had Chesnaught take down a wild Lickitung to bring the 6 to level 100 all in the same fight. I felt it had to be special, given they were the team that brought me through the game. So now I've got: Nusselt - Chesnaught Strouhal - Hawlucha Poisson - Goodra Kelvin - Aurorus Coulomb - Emolga Grashof - Quagsire Working on breeding some people for a more competitive team. Been pretty lucky so far, and I feel good trading out hordes of Scythers, especially when I get good stuff in return - Good number of people I'd love to have 5IV'ed like Poliwag, Riolu, Vulpix, Gible, etc. Even got a Japanese Ditto with max IVs in SpAtk/SpDef/Speed so that'll hopefully Masuda a bit for me. Good stuff. |

That's really fucking cool on all accounts! Is anyone besides myself and Olinea planning to build a competitive team at all? Even one for battling. It'd be really cool to have a friendly tournament/Pokemon League/battle on occasion and not have to resort to random box 'mons. |

Yes, but who knows when I'll actually get to it. Still need a Ditto box before I even think of starting that process. It's not really my biggest priority at the moment. |

Olinea and I toyed with the idea of a "Wonder Tournament"; you have 24 hours to Wonder Trade whatever you want and then we do battle in a round robin or whatever. We're just going to assume everyone was legit with their Wonder Trading. Wonder Battling, mainly for Andami, is basically where you Wonder Trade six Pokemon and you have to use those. You're allowed to trade stuff like Ralts with just Growl back out. This is a similar system. |

ITT we discuss and talk about teams. Posted Image Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite Ability: Early Bird EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef Adamant Nature - Power-Up Punch - Fake Out - Return - Earthquake It was pretty quickly established that my thoughts on this guy were completely and utterly wrong and he's actually ridiculous. STAB Fake Out is nothing to be sniffed at; it's essentially a free 90 Power move with the baby as well. Power-Up Punch is a damaging Swords Dance, Return is your best STAB move and Earthquake is simply for coverage against Rock/Steel. Posted Image Espeon @ Leftovers Ability: Magic Bounce EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature - Substitute - Psychic - Calm Mind - Baton Pass This is my generic counter to suicide leads. If I see they're running something like Ferrothorn as a lead, I can swap this in and just bounce it back. I feel it doesn't need to do all that much besides set up a Sub/Calm Mind for Volcarona late and reflect stuff early. Posted Image Roserade @ Black Sludge Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef Modest Nature - Sleep Powder - Leaf Storm - Toxic Spikes - Sludge Bomb Roserade is yet another strong setup Pokemon that can do a lot of damage if my opponent has no answer to it. It has some really nice base stats and the ability to lay down Toxic Spikes while they're asleep/on the switch is very important considering I run very little in the form of status conditions. Posted Image Dragonite @ Weakness Policy Ability: Multiscale EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature - Dragon Dance - Dragon Claw - Earthquake - Extreme Speed Same old dog, new tricks and all that. Weakness Policy sharply raises both Attack stats when it's hit by a Super Effective move. Multiscale basically means it's not being one shotted any time soon so this is beyond useful. Dragon Dance allows it to start sweeping and the other moves are just generic coverage, damage and outspeeding Talonflame. Posted Image Volcarona @ Leftovers Ability: Swarm EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest Nature - Quiver Dance - Fire Blast - Bug Buzz - Roost Volcarona's a Pokemon that basically comes in late game and just sweeps the entire game apart. Quiver Dance is one of the best moves in the entire game as it allows it to stay tanky while setting itself up. Roost really helps with the Stealth Rock weakness and the other two moves are just raw damage. Posted Image Tyranitar @ Leftovers Ability: Unnerve Shiny: Yes EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature - Dragon Dance - Crunch - Pursuit - Stone Edge As you can probably tell, I'm a huge fan of setting things up and then sweeping the fuck out of my opponent. Tyranitar is especially good at that because it has naturally ridiculous bulk along with being basically the only thing able to swap into Mega Gengar (you can swap before it Megavolves) and then kill it before it can swap out currently in the game. The general team strategy is fairly simple. I have a lot of Pokemon that set themselves up and have great coverage. I also have some great "hit and run" Pokemon in the form of Kanga and Roserade. It basically leaves my opponent in the awkward position where they can't really prioritise something to take out or prioritise something for themselves to keep alive; four of my Pokemon are fully capable of taking out his entire team. |

Posted Image Eevee @ N/A Ability: Adaptability Rash Nature - Helping Hand - Growl - Tackle - Tail Whip I get a bunch of these in Wonder Trade and it’s for a good reason. Tackle gets beautiful STAB and he has ways to deal with walls and sweepers in Tail Whip and Growl, respectively. Posted Image Skiddo @ Oran Berry Ability: Sap Sipper Naive Nature - Tackle - Growth - Vine Whip - Tail Whip Monstrosity. A few Growths and you’re in business. Vine Whip packs a 45 base power of sheer terror, not to mention the STAB boost. Tackle can deal with most any non-Steel types that Vine Whip doesn’t deal with. Tail Whip can be used as last-ditch effort to set up for someone else. Posted Image Panpour @ N/A Ability: Gluttony Lonely Nature - Scratch - Play Nice - N/A - N/A Great way to stop sweepers in their tracks. Play Nice is the cornerstone of the set and can force switches – you can sometimes force switches to Oddish and counter with a Skiddo switch to trigger Sap Sipper. Scratch is for offense, of course. Posted Image Inkay @ N/A Ability: Suction Cups Sassy Nature - Reflect - Foul Play - Swagger - Psywave Every team should really have one of these, because he literally does it all. Reflect walls all physical attackers like Trevenant, Eevee, Bunnelby, Froakie, Charmander, Pancham – the list goes on. Once they switch to a special attacker you can throw Swagger on them for the confusion, and they won’t be able to make use of the added attack. But you can, thanks to Foul Play, which uses their attack stat – this means Swagger is boosting your Foul Plays, and you have to choose between fighting through confusion or through Reflect. He doesn’t even really need Psywave but it’s good to have for coverage on most everything that Foul Play isn’t getting the job done on. Combine with ludicrously good typing and you’ve got yourself a hell of a beast to deal with once this hits the field. Posted Image Ralts @ Parlyz Heal Ability: Trace Timid Nature - Growl - N/A - N/A - N/A It really speaks to the current meta of physical attack dominance that I basically need Panpour #2 on this team. Repeated Growl spam can still work wonders, though – enough to earn Ralts a spot on the team – not a niche, mind you, but a spot. Trace can be very hit-or-miss, I would’ve preferred Synchronize but you get what you get. It came with a Parlyz Heal I guess? Posted Image Skiddo @ N/A Ability: Sap Sipper Quirky Nature - Tackle - Growth - Vine Whip - Tail Whip The poke so nice you use it twice. |

Just had a super long, pretty awesome battle with misplays galore on both sides. Smogon and other sites do things called "War Stories" where you basically paste the battle and then talk about what happened or w/e, so I'm gonna do one of those in a spoiler. I also can't help but feel I recognise the name of my opponent; Nyanlathotep. Oh well.
Battle between Skarfelt and Nyanlathotep started! Go! Kangaskhan! Nyanlathotep sent out Ditto! The opposing Ditto transformed into Kangaskhan! Imposter Ditto is almost always Scarfed. Turn 1 Nyanlathotep: gl hf! Kangaskhan has Mega Evolved into Mega Kangaskhan! The opposing Ditto used Fake Out! Kangaskhan lost 15.2% of its health! Kangaskhan flinched and couldn't move! Because of this, I know he's going to want to Fake Out. He then obviously can't switch moves. Turn 2 Nyanlathotep withdrew Ditto! Nyanlathotep sent out Chesnaught! Kangaskhan used Power-Up Punch! The opposing Chesnaught lost 10% of its health! Kangaskhan's Attack rose! The opposing Chesnaught lost 6% of its health! Kangaskhan's Attack rose! Hit 2 time(s)! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Turn 3 The opposing Chesnaught used Spiky Shield! Kangaskhan used Return! The opposing Chesnaught's Spiky Shield activated! Kangaskhan is hurt by the opposing Chesnaught's Spiky Shield! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Turn 4 Nyanlathotep withdrew Chesnaught! Nyanlathotep sent out Mawile! The opposing Mawile intimidates Kangaskhan! Kangaskhan's Attack fell! Kangaskhan used Return! It's not very effective... The opposing Mawile lost 53% of its health! It's not very effective... The opposing Mawile lost 26% of its health! Hit 2 time(s)! Yeah, this is Mega Mawile's biggest weakness. The fact it can't switch in reliably due to normal Mawile's appalling base stats make it into what is essentially a more interesting version of Dugtrio. Turn 5 Mawile has Mega Evolved into Mega Mawile! The opposing Mawile used Sucker Punch! Kangaskhan lost 45.2% of its health! Kangaskhan used Return! It's not very effective... The opposing Mawile lost 21% of its health! Hit 1 time(s)! The opposing Mawile fainted! Nyanlathotep sent out Ditto! The opposing Ditto transformed into Kangaskhan! 6-5. This Ditto is becoming a little bit of a pest. Turn 6 Kangaskhan, come back! Go! Tyranitar! Tyranitar's Unnerve makes the opposing team too nervous to eat Berries! The opposing Ditto used Power-Up Punch! It's super effective! Tyranitar lost 83.0% of its health! The opposing Ditto's Attack rose! It's super effective! Tyranitar lost 17.0% of its health! The opposing Ditto's Attack rose! Hit 2 time(s)! Tyranitar fainted! WHOOPS. I don't know why I was expecting a Fake Out. 5-5. Turn 7 Go! Dragonite! The opposing Ditto used Power-Up Punch! It's not very effective... Dragonite lost 9.9% of its health! The opposing Ditto's Attack rose! It's not very effective... Dragonite lost 13.3% of its health! The opposing Ditto's Attack rose! Hit 2 time(s)! Dragonite used Earthquake! The opposing Ditto lost 43% of its health! Turn 8 Nyanlathotep withdrew Ditto! Nyanlathotep sent out Chesnaught! Dragonite used Dragon Claw! The opposing Chesnaught lost 31% of its health! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Turn 9 Dragonite used Dragon Dance! Dragonite's Attack rose! Dragonite's Speed rose! The opposing Chesnaught used Leech Seed! Dragonite was seeded! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Dragonite's health is sapped by Leech Seed! Sweeeet set up. Turn 10 The opposing Chesnaught used Spiky Shield! Dragonite used Dragon Dance! Dragonite's Attack rose! Dragonite's Speed rose! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Dragonite's health is sapped by Leech Seed! Turn 11 Nyanlathotep withdrew Chesnaught! Nyanlathotep sent out Sylveon! Dragonite used Fire Punch! A critical hit! The opposing Sylveon lost 100% of its health! The opposing Sylveon fainted! Yeah, you were dead regardless of crit, mate. 5-4. Turn 12 Nyanlathotep sent out Ditto! The opposing Ditto transformed into Dragonite! The opposing Ditto used Dragon Claw! It's super effective! Dragonite lost 52.2% of its health! Dragonite fainted! Ooooh shit. He now has a +2 Atk +2.5 Speed Dragonite. Thank God it's Scarfed. 4-4. Turn 13 Go! Kangaskhan! Nyanlathotep withdrew Ditto! Nyanlathotep sent out Chesnaught! Kangaskhan used Fake Out! The opposing Chesnaught lost 12% of its health! The opposing Chesnaught lost 8% of its health! Hit 2 time(s)! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Turn 14 Kangaskhan used Earthquake! It's not very effective... The opposing Chesnaught lost 11% of its health! It's not very effective... The opposing Chesnaught lost 5% of its health! Hit 2 time(s)! The opposing Chesnaught used Brick Break! It's super effective! Kangaskhan lost 27.3% of its health! Kangaskhan fainted! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! sdbfjhrheerggfd mispredictiiiooons, thought he'd Spiky Shield and I have no other moves that wouldn't do recoil damage due to it. 4-3. Turn 15 Go! Volcarona! Nyanlathotep withdrew Chesnaught! Nyanlathotep sent out Dragalge! Volcarona used Fire Blast! It's not very effective... The opposing Dragalge lost 15% of its health! Turn 16 Volcarona, come back! Go! Roserade! The opposing Dragalge used Hydro Pump! It's not very effective... Roserade lost 12.3% of its health! Roserade restored HP using its Black Sludge! And the walling begins. Turn 17 Roserade used Sleep Powder! The opposing Dragalge fell asleep! The opposing Dragalge is fast asleep. Roserade restored HP using its Black Sludge! Turn 18 Roserade used Toxic Spikes! Poison spikes were scattered all around the feet of the opposing team! The opposing Dragalge is fast asleep. Turn 19 Roserade used Toxic Spikes! Poison spikes were scattered all around the feet of the opposing team! The opposing Dragalge is fast asleep. Turn 20 Roserade, come back! Go! Espeon! Nyanlathotep withdrew Dragalge! Nyanlathotep sent out Ditto! The opposing Ditto was badly poisoned! The opposing Ditto transformed into Espeon! The opposing Ditto was hurt by poison! He made a sneaky attempt to clear off the Toxic Spikes here. This is really good for being able to shut down Ditto later with Toxic. Turn 21 Nyanlathotep withdrew Ditto! Nyanlathotep sent out Dragalge! The poison spikes disappeared from around the opposing team's feet! Espeon used Substitute! Espeon put in a substitute! Espeon lost 25% of its health! Espeon restored HP using its Leftovers! Turn 22 Espeon used Baton Pass! Go! Volcarona! The opposing Dragalge woke up! The opposing Dragalge used Dragon Tail! Volcarona's substitute faded! Yeah, this was a mistake. A pretty huge one. I thought I'd be able to get a few Quiver Dances off for free because it wouldn't be able to penetrate my huge Special Defence after dancing quickly, but Dragon Tail put a hole in that plan. Turn 23 Volcarona, come back! Go! Roserade! The opposing Dragalge used Hydro Pump! It's not very effective... Roserade lost 13.3% of its health! Roserade restored HP using its Black Sludge! Turn 24 Nyanlathotep withdrew Dragalge! Nyanlathotep sent out Ditto! The opposing Ditto transformed into Roserade! Roserade used Sleep Powder! The opposing Ditto avoided the attack! Roserade restored HP using its Black Sludge! The opposing Ditto was hurt by poison! Turn 25 You have 150 seconds to make your decision. Roserade, come back! Go! Volcarona! The opposing Ditto used Toxic Spikes! Poison spikes were scattered all around the feet of your team! The opposing Ditto was hurt by poison! Turn 26 The opposing Ditto used Toxic Spikes! Poison spikes were scattered all around the feet of your team! Volcarona used Quiver Dance! Volcarona's Special Attack rose! Volcarona's Special Defense rose! Volcarona's Speed rose! The opposing Ditto was hurt by poison! Turn 27 Nyanlathotep withdrew Ditto! Nyanlathotep sent out Dragalge! Volcarona used Quiver Dance! Volcarona's Special Attack rose! Volcarona's Special Defense rose! Volcarona's Speed rose! Turn 28 Volcarona used Fire Blast! It's not very effective... The opposing Dragalge lost 31% of its health! The opposing Dragalge used Dragon Tail! Volcarona lost 24.4% of its health! Espeon was dragged out! Espeon was badly poisoned! Espeon restored HP using its Leftovers! Espeon was hurt by poison! So many things went wrong for me here. I wrongly expected my double Quiver Dance to do a lot more damage and now my Espeon's being screwed. Turn 29 Espeon used Psychic! It's super effective! The opposing Dragalge lost 44% of its health! The opposing Dragalge used Draco Meteor! Espeon lost 61.0% of its health! The opposing Dragalge's Special Attack harshly fell! Espeon restored HP using its Leftovers! Espeon was hurt by poison! Espeon hanging on by the skin of its teeth here... Turn 30 Nyanlathotep withdrew Dragalge! Nyanlathotep sent out Starmie! Espeon used Psychic! It's not very effective... The opposing Starmie lost 26% of its health! The opposing Starmie restored HP using its Leftovers! Espeon restored HP using its Leftovers! Espeon was hurt by poison! Turn 31 The opposing Starmie used Scald! Espeon lost 1.5% of its health! Espeon fainted! The opposing Starmie restored HP using its Leftovers! 3-2. Things are looking bleak. Turn 32 Go! Roserade! The poison spikes disappeared from around your team's feet! The opposing Starmie used Psyshock! It's super effective! Roserade lost 75.9% of its health! Roserade used Sleep Powder! The opposing Starmie fell asleep! The opposing Starmie restored HP using its Leftovers! Roserade restored HP using its Black Sludge! Bleaker and bleaker... Turn 33 Nyanlathotep withdrew Starmie! Nyanlathotep sent out Ditto! The opposing Ditto transformed into Roserade! Roserade used Leaf Storm! It's not very effective... The opposing Ditto lost 15% of its health! Roserade's Special Attack harshly fell! The opposing Ditto fainted! Roserade restored HP using its Black Sludge! Nyanlathotep sent out Starmie! Ditto was low, so I was pretty safe to go for a Leaf Storm and hope he kept Starmie in as well on the same token. It's quite obvious I wasn't touching Dragalge with Sludge Bomb, anyway. 3-2. Turn 34 The opposing Starmie used Psyshock! It's super effective! Roserade lost 35.5% of its health! Roserade fainted! The opposing Starmie restored HP using its Leftovers! Nyanlathotep: gg! 3-1, Volcarona versus Starmie, Dragalge and Chestnaught. Good game. Turn 35 Go! Volcarona! Skarfelt: D: The opposing Starmie used Scald! It's super effective! Volcarona lost 55.8% of its health! Volcarona used Bug Buzz! It's super effective! The opposing Starmie lost 98% of its health! The opposing Starmie fainted! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! Nyanlathotep sent out Dragalge! Volcarona tanks it out on 20%! This is why you don't use Scald on a sweeper, kids. 2-1. Turn 36 You have 150 seconds to make your decision. Nyanlathotep: unless not Volcarona used Roost! Volcarona regained health! The opposing Dragalge used Sludge Wave! Volcarona lost 33.0% of its health! Volcarona was poisoned! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! Volcarona was hurt by poison! I'm taking lots of damage between turns here, but I tend to heal more with Roost regardless. Turn 37 Volcarona used Roost! Volcarona regained health! The opposing Dragalge used Hydro Pump! It's super effective! Volcarona lost 50% of its health! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! Volcarona was hurt by poison! ...Unless he does that. I'm sitting at exactly 31% which is JUST too high to get off a booster Bug Buzz. His Dragalge's at 10%. Turn 38 Volcarona used Fire Blast! The opposing Dragalge avoided the attack! The opposing Dragalge used Hydro Pump! Volcarona avoided the attack! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! Volcarona was hurt by poison! Well holy mother of Christ my heart damn near stopped when I saw my Fire Blast missing. Turn 39 Skarfelt: wow Volcarona used Bug Buzz! It's not very effective... The opposing Dragalge lost 10% of its health! The opposing Dragalge fainted! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! Volcarona was hurt by poison! Nyanlathotep sent out Chesnaught! 1-1. Turn 40 Nyanlathotep: welp Volcarona used Roost! Volcarona regained health! The opposing Chesnaught used Leech Seed! Volcarona was seeded! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Volcarona's health is sapped by Leech Seed! Volcarona was hurt by poison! Suddenly I'm taking millions of damage between turns. I was expecting a Spiky Shield but that wasn't the case. Turn 41 The opposing Chesnaught used Spiky Shield! Volcarona used Fire Blast! The opposing Chesnaught's Spiky Shield activated! Volcarona restored HP using its Leftovers! The opposing Chesnaught restored HP using its Leftovers! Volcarona's health is sapped by Leech Seed! Volcarona was hurt by poison! Volcarona's at 20%. One more turn will kill him. RNG Gods please... Turn 42 Volcarona used Fire Blast! It's super effective! The opposing Chesnaught lost 100% of its health! The opposing Chesnaught fainted! Skarfelt won the battle! Skarfelt: gg, wp Nyanlathotep: wp Nyanlathotep left. By the Gods that battle became a fucking disaster 20 turns or so in. GG!
|
