Only sad for two reasons. A) No Ice Climbers, and B) Still a lack of Metroid characters, which is odd considering how popular Metroid is compared to some of these other series

Fire Emblem has double the reps that Metroid and StarFox have, what has happened

That said, Fire Emblem fits Smash perfectly so I don't mind at all

As far as the final cast goes, there aren't any really big surprises here. I haven't kept up with anything since Rosalina was confirmed (thank you based Nintendo), so yeah. There are at least nine different characters I know I'll use/want to try, which is a fair bit. Sure, most of them are the FE reps but whatever. Some others might strike me as interesting in the process of unlocking the rest, too.

I'm happy with the cast; I got a fair number of characters I know I'll want to try and make work. If I can't make them work, which is likely because I blow, Pikachu is always a reliable fallback for me.

I obv watched the streams last night, so I've seen the game in action. The new classic mode is pretty interesting, being a branching affair instead of a straightforward one. The intensity system has a lot of difficulty levels but I don't think there'll be a huge difference between, say, 5.0 and 5.1. I think it might have been better to just go with whole numbers, so maybe there would be some difference. Idk.

Not sure how I feel about 2 lives per stage. On one hand, that means you won't be saving lives for the (usually hard) stage before Master Hand anymore. On the other, that should mean a more consistent level of difficulty throughout classic mode. I guess I'd have to play and see.

Smash Run looks like something you'd play if you want a change of pace from normal Smash stuff. I wasn't all that impressed by it, but it might be something that's more fun to do than watch. And of course things like Home Run Derby are back, but there appear to be some new mini-games, too. I hope those are fun outside of unlocking things, but I've never focused much on them outside of that.

On the whole, it looks like Smash and seems to play like Smash, from what I've gathered. I wasn't sure I'd buy the 3DS version, but I'm now giving some consideration to it. At the least that'd be another couple months of practice with characters I want to learn, if not more, and I could do that soundtrack offer.

I could do a whole post on all the mechanical differences and the implications that come with them but nobody would give a fuck so basically yeah it's a cross between Melee and Brawl. Combos exist, it's still much faster but airdodging is still spammable. Shields and rolling are encouraged more than ever in this as they're insanely fast to use but shields break much quicker which I think is an excellent gameplay decision.

For stuff people actually care about, the roster is generally fantastic although the lack of Lucas is upsetting. I'll have to play it to see how Falco feels but I'm skeptical. Every new character looks very interesting to play so I look forward to playing everyone. The stages also generally all seem really good but the choices to bring back certain stages baffles me. Jungle Japes again? Green Hill Zone? NO TEMPLE?! I can only hope Temple is on the Wii U or I'll cry. The soundtrack seemed 10/10 from the stream yesterday, the menu song got me hyped and Final Destination sounded pretty fuckin' cool too. No Don't Say Her Name though so pre-order cancelled.

EDIT: Also, DHD's smashes are literally somebody aiming at him and him avoiding it. That's amazing.

Sent one to both of yall.

Here are my opinions on it from what I've played.

Mario is about the same, or at least he seems like it, I've never been a big fan
Pikachu seems the same, but it's hard to tell (I'll get to that in a second)
Link is just absolutely perfect.
Megaman is really cool and he's pretty easy to use plus he feels very unique to all the previous characters
Not a fan of Villager, he just doesn't really have any good attacks imo. His best attacks are way too hard to hit someone, especially for a character like this.

I hate, HATE playing with the nub. It just has barely any precision for a game like this. I can stand using a regular stick, but the nub is just terrible imo. That's why it was hard for me to get a good feel for Pikachu, I just couldn't work with him well. Hoping that might be a reason why Villager was meh also. I'm really hoping the full game has the option to use the d pad otherwise I might skip the 3DS version unless I get used to it by the end of my uses of the demo, but I'm really hoping that you can just change the settings to use the d pad in the full game.

Pretty sure I'll be using custom controls for this game. Tap Jump the fuck off and I think it'd be nicer to have Jump on B, Attack on A and Special on Y - you can hit all the buttons without moving your thumb. I am skeptical at the level of control we'll have with 3DS controls, though.

My code didn't work, so somebody else can feel free to ask for it.

I've heard Mario is the exact same but just faster in every regard which is great. I'd expect the only massive change most people will notice is that KO'ing is hard as fuck.

I think codes are locked to regions. Cal's only works in NA.

My sister (with whom I live) has a 3DS that I could abduct, but I'll give someone else priority if they want it because I hate my sister and want her to suffer.

Yeah, figured that was the reason why after a bit of research. Turns out I'd unticked the "receive info from Nintendo" on my Club Nintendo so fml and all that. I'll just get it next Friday, no biggy.

I wouldn't mind the code. I have no idea why I didn't receive one. I was Platinum and I regularly receive emails from Nintendo...

Afaik, Nintendo are going down a mailing list. If you should receive one but haven't then they said just be patient.
