Fuck yeah got the one character I wanted added. Now all I want is a release date.

I'm hoping they announce some new characters from games without any fighters yet. Bring on someone from Punch Out! or Chibi Robo. Also, some of Nintendo's newly acquired franchises like Xenoblade and Bayonetta. Bring in another character from Metroid. Replace Lucario with Mewtwo, who can Mega Evolve into either X or Y form, either like Zelda to Sheik or Samus to Zero Suit Samus. I'd definitely like to see a character from Wonderful 101. Heck even let you use your Mii. Like have a Mii fighter that you can pick to be a Wii from the game. Give it Wii Sports and maybe Wii Play moves. Like have him/her have a tennis racket, baseball bat, and golf club as a melee weapon, bowling balls and baseballs as projectiles, wear boxing gloves when using hands. I'd just like to see some variety instead of a bunch of clones

I could support someone from Xenoblade, but the likeliest candidate would be Shulk, and we have 800 sword dudes already. I don't know how many of the Monado's powers would translate well to Smash, though I guess they could make new ones up. At least that would differentiate him from the rest. I'd be okay with Melia, since there aren't many magic-oriented fighters and that'd be her whole playstyle. Riki might also be fairly interesting, since his whole style in the game revolves around inflicting ailments and tanking and there's nobody who does anything similar in SSB.

Bayonetta would be awesome. They'd have to make a Final Smash that doesn't involve her hair (as the boss finishers all do) to keep an E rating. Easy enough.

But yeah. I'd rather see new characters and fewer clones.

I'd rather they didn't remove clones that were already in the game. Brawl did a good job of spacing the clones out - play Link and Toon Link back to back and tell me they feel similar - but I don't like the idea of new clones.

I'm still honestly gunning for Krystal because she could have a very simple moveset playing with the staff; her aerials would be similar to Marth's and her specials would just be the moves from Star Fox Adventures. I mean it's almost too perfect. There's the ice stream for movement, the rocket booster for recovery, the stationary fire spell and a quake.

I don't like the idea of replacing Lucario with Mewtwo, though, as they have completely different movepools and playstyles. Adding Mewtwo back in, sure, but as it is they share a similar neutral B and nothing else. I agree on everything else, though.

They seem to be mainly adding characters who are unique to Smash Bros this time rather than looking for specific representatives. All of the four characters shown have something original about them in playstyle to really differentiate themselves from the cast. It's also pretty exciting to see characters like Bowser reworked into something more playable; I'm wondering if they're planning to rework other characters in that vein like Dedede, Donkey Kong or Ganon.

It's not that I want anyone to be replaced, clone or not, it's that they said the new one was going to have the amount of fighters as Brawl, which honestly upsets me. I would have liked it if they would have 50 characters. 12 new and bring back Mewtwo

I thought they said not everybody would return, not necessarily that there would be less. It'd be really strange to have less playable characters and I would blame most of that on a parallel 3DS version being made.

I thought they said it was going to have the same amount (37) of characters, meaning well be losing some (quite a bit). I could be wrong but I thought that's what I read

I went hunting for the source and found this. It doesn't say one or the other, really, but just talks more about Third Party characters not returning. I think we'll probably end up at about 40 on the dot or so.

New stage announced

Sakurai

Pic of the day. Happy Holidays! Here's a new 3DS stage--Rainbow Road! It can't be explained in one picture, but it's going to be a cruise-type stage.

Ah, there's Rainbow Road. Apparently it's a 3DS exclusive stage. Weird.

It looks very similar to MK7's Rainbow Road, so I guess the Wii U version will see MK8's.

I haven't played MK7 or MK8, but I was also thinking that the 3DS could have a portable Rainbow Road and Wii U could have a console one. Seems silly to just have one game with a Mario Kart stage.

Challenger Approaching!

Woo. She was guaranteed to return, but still cool to see confirmation. Interesting to see the Twilight Princess design.

Interesting to note that a Darknut appears in one of the sceenshots.

It seems the actual announcements are coming in with more frequency. That's got me excited.

EDIT: Starfy was also announced on Christmas to be returning as an assist trophy, but I was gone all day and missed it.

Does anybody actually care about Starfy?

Kinda bummed they didn't announce Sheik along with Zelda but the Darknut could very easily be a new Down B with Sheik as an entirely separate character. Their playstyles aren't even slightly similar so it's very, very hard to try and play both as a legitimate character but it would remove some of the fun gimmickiness.

My sister will cry when she finds out they confirmed Zelda and not Sheik.

Then again, if they did split her into two characters, she'll be way happier, because she hates playing Zelda, but plays Sheik like 80% of the time.

Since I much prefer playing as Zelda to Sheik, I'm satisfied. But I would also like to see Sheik return.

I read on another site that Zelda and Sheik were announced separately for Brawl as well, so don't take the lack of Sheik as confirmation of her absence.

I think the Darknut is more likely an assist trophy. I'm having trouble thinking of a large enough moveset to satisfy an entirely new character like that. We'll probably get more information on that in the next couple days.
