Guitar Hero/nostalgia thread?; The game that brought us together.

I HAVE RETURNED
First off, I personally wanna say hello to everyone who still comes here. I think it's really cool how you still keep in contact after all these years. But let's not forget how we met in the first place.

As you all know, Guitar Hero is THE thing that brought us all together. Since I enjoy talking about nostalgic stuff, I'm curious to hear your "origins" and why you joined the community back in the day. Feel free to mention some favorite game news, in-game achievements, or even some favorite moments back in the community, if you'd like.

Also, would you like to see a comeback of the game? If so, how would you like to see it return? (i.e. gameplay, game modes, characters, features, etc. Setlist is a totally different thread in it's own ;) )

DAT STORY TIEM

We do have a GH thread but I'm fine with this too.

I play RB3/WoR fairly regularly but I'm not sure I'd buy a new game unless it was compatible with my current instruments and, even then, I wouldn't want an Xbox One just for GH. RB had a survey on FB asking people about a new RB and what console they'd want it on so previous generation would be ideal I think.

Guess I can see if I remember how I met everyone...

I first joined the Guitar Hero Community shortly after I bought Aerosmith, sometime in summer, 2008. My original username was KrystalDeath, and I never went to the forums under this account. I did receive a PM from a guy named DOIT asking me to join his tour group called Around the Globe. Again, wasn't much interested in a community, so I ignored it.

Later that year, when World Tour came out, I rejoined the GHC under my current username, LifeAgainstDeath. I received a PM from DOIT again, and decided to join Around the Globe. That's where I first met Moon (and other ATG members who aren't around anymore). I mainly kept to the tour group forum, but eventually traveled into Off Topic. There I saw a thread called Community's Guitar Hero run by a certain user named tfghost92. He's honestly the only Secret Project member I remember from the GHC days because of that thread. Too bad that setlist was never finished.

Anyways, Around the Globe merged with another tour group called The Vehement run by DJJazz (not around, but I have him on FB). We also got our own forums thanks to RoyalPhysique (which still exist). This was around when the Guitar Hero Hub move happened, so nobody liked the new GH forums and we all stuck to the ATG/TV forums. That's where I properly met members like Andami, EWE1, JokerDonny, KRISTOFFA, MrMarill, ParanoidPaal, etc.

Eventually we came back to the GHH, and I started going to more of the other sections. Back in the Off Topic section again, I remember seeing a thread called Werewolf III run by ugxheroxsan. Thought it was interesting to see a game that wasn't being removed by the mod(s), so I joined. I guess that's how I properly met users like BigMac, evilpacman, LightningBolt, Romanticide, etc. (I'm surprised I remembered that much from WW3).

Then sometime later, a new private forum showed up on my screen called Secret Project. Andami found out about how to make your own private forum and invite whoever you want, so our community was born. Then we got Secret Project V.2 (the first forum was made using an alt account and Andami lost the password or something), ghost made the Werewolf Games forum because we weren't allowed to play in Off Topic anymore, Snowman made our IRC channel #SPV2. Then once the GH forums went to shit, MrMarill and Volt made these forums, and most of us moved here.

Basically what I remember of those days.

I don't distinctly remember my early days on the forum, though it was shortly after World Tour was released. I joined the Snow Shredders group, which is slightly ironic considering I fucking hate snow. I don't really remember who all was in the group at the time, though I do vaguely remember Darkie, zerosperfectworld, Andami, and Steelfire from around that time. I didn't really venture out of the Tour Group forms until the Great Forum Fuckup occurred, and I was one of the morons kicking and screaming in Off Topic during the time immediately afterwards.

About a year passed before I returned after that debacle, and I started wandering around off-topic, where I started to see the likes of LAD, LightningBolt, Romanticide, and Ghost, among others. I remember taking part in a number of the custom song contests that were an absolute blast. I remember playing in the first Werewolf game in the Snow Shredders forum when those came back, just a few days before the first one in Off-Topic showed up. I was lynched D1 then. Thus began a tradition that carries on to this day. Shortly thereafter, Andami asked me to join SPV2 and I have been stuck with you losers ever since.

My GH experience is a bit more odd than others. I always knew about Guitar Hero, but I never actually played it until 7th grade (like 6 years ago) when my teacher brought GH3 for the first day of school, I tried playing but I sucked ass, but I got better little by little, and then I started playing a little more at my friends house sometimes, since he had GH2 on his xbox. For a while I couldn't play though, because I had no game console and didn't bother getting a PC version (it would have sucked anyway). But after really REALLY wanting the game for about a year and a half after first playing it, I finally got my wish for christmas in 8th grade (almost 5 years ago). I got a wii and GH5 and played the shit out of it. Contrary to most people, I fucking loved GH5, partly because of the euphoria of actually owning a GH game but also because I got around to liking most of the setlist on it.

Then around the next summer, I bought Beatles: RB and Green Day: RB, expanding my library and playing almost exclusively music games (with some MarioKart in there) and got really fucking obsessed with the genre. Around the same time I learned about the release of GHWOR, so I went to the GHH to check out videos and get any info I could about the game. I got really excited for this game's release so I decided it'd be a good idea to join the GHH as a member and talk Guitar Hero with everyone there. I posted sparingly in the GHWOR forum for a few weeks, posting my thoughts and stuff about the upcoming game.

After a few weeks I started venturing to other places in the forum, like off-topic and started posting way more often. In off-topic was probably when I first interacted with some users here. Eventually I was on the GHH every day for hours, posting a lot, along with playing GHWOR for hours on end. After a couple months I guess I gained some kind of notoriety and got added into SPV2. Not sure who did it or how it happened. I didn't receive any kind of PM or notice that I remember, all that happened was one day the SPV2 forum randomly appeared with all the others. So after being added to SPV2 I started to talk to everyone here more often. Maybe a month or two later GH was "postponed" and shit went absolutely insane. At that point I finally joined the chat, and the move here happened.

I'd be interested in a GH revival, especially if it looked promising. I think I'd buy the new GH regardless anyway, unless it looked blatantly horrible (like the planned GH7 in development was looking like).

Well, it started when we (my brother and I) began playing Guitar Hero II at my neighbor's house. We didn't really play video games together much, but so we only played it there a few times. It'd probably be rude to break in and play Guitar Hero at her house whenever I wanted, so instead, I asked my parents for Guitar Hero III for the Wii for my twelfth birthday in November 2007.

On my second day of playing, I noticed that I could link my scores to a website! Whoah! So I did, because that's cool. By this time, a couple other neighbors had GH3 on the Wii too, so we competed online and co-op'd at each other's houses, but I wasn't on the forums until I discovered "Tour Groups". I joined the Wii Rockers before promptly getting kicked out because my twelve year-old self thought it would be funny if I bumped the oldest thread in the private forum, which was apparently against the rules (along with all other threads at least a month old). I felt really bad about it and PM'd our glorious leader, Kirbygcn17, doing something that my twelve year-old self thought was apologizing, but was probably pretty whiny. He allowed me to rejoin, and some names I remember meeting there are dwestfan13, dylmax12, donotopenb4xmas, JusAGurl, DayzeeDee, Rogue092, Kish (who lived in my county and was apparently not Evan Kish from my high school), Kirezar (we still keep in touch on Mibbit), 131bobby313 (he made the best animated sig banners), soup567, Jeritron, Werelord, g4ngsta (or gangst4? I don't remember), APEtheHIPPY, Bekuraryou something... I think another Tour Group claimed some former Wii Rockers at one point. Symphonic Doom, or something like that. I think KRISTOFFA was in the WR at one point and maybe left to go there, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, they were cool. There was a Spanish thread that I seldom visited because I foolishly assumed they spike Spanish there, and there was a "Random Chat" thread that was more active than our chat room sometimes. There'd literally be new posts every five seconds or less during peak hours.

During the transition to the Guitar Hero Hub, we lost a lot of activity because of the lack of private forums. I never really ventured out of them on the GHC (my only memory of the GHC off-topic section is some kinda cool monk dude), but I did during the GHH time, eventually being drawn into Werewolf, and from there, the Werewolf Games private forum, and then Secret Project v2. The Wii Rockers had a chat, #wiirockers, on the Foonetic channel. I never really went there, but I registered #SPV2 on there because a Wii Rockers clan for the Conduit called Warriors of Time had a chat there too, #WoT|CC, where I often talked to Kire, soup, Bobby, Werelord, and Jeritron. Kire and I are the only originals who still go there often (usually daily), but soup visits occasionally, and Werelord has stopped by a couple times in the last couple years, I think.

Bonus story: But we obtained new regulars! Soup switched to Rock Band when that came out, and joined their version of the Secret Project. For some reason, the RB mods also discouraged Mafia, so they made an off-site forum called the Rock Band Outcasts, from which the lovely MilkAndCookies, Elysia, civplayah, and more originate. Soup drew some of them into #WoT|CC, and from there, I got Milk to join #SPV2, and then the forum. And then LAD joined #WoT|CC, and sometimes Marill. I'm not trying to tell other people's stories, but I've probably been in every chat somehow affiliated with us, so I felt like talking about that.

I saw commercials for GH3 all the time when I was younger and I really wanted to get into it, so I begged for Guitar Hero 3 for christmas, and ended up getting it Christmas 2007 for the PS2. I was so excited and I saw there were links to register your game or something on the community site so I was like "why not?"

I registered as Gigasteam in early 2008, around february I believe. I was 12 at the time and passed off the "you must be 13 or older thing" I met lots of people I now forget the names of, and one day got into some argument about something and let it slip I was 12. Banned. I waited til my birthday of 2008 and came up with a username I thought sounded really cool called "tfghost92." I came back and explained to Nikkilove who I was and made sure it was all good and he was chill with it. I spent most of my time on that site talking in the Off-Topic area for years as the lot of you fucks started showing up. I met lots of people there like Rampage87, dwestfan13, KRISTOFFA, gold1337, Maddogbutcher, Romanticide, Andami, SnowmanXIV, GHfanmike (i think that was his name), MrMarill, Cellophanegirl, BlushingChaos, Darkflashlight, drfreshey, Asfan, zerosperfectworld, LightningBolt, I heard that someone made a forum called Secret Project but I was never a part of it because people said it was used as a place to test different mod features and stuff. Eventually the Great Forum Fuckup happened, the GHC was ripped in half and rebirthed into the GHH, and I made the Werewolf forums where most of you guys ended up in. the Werewolf forums, as horrible as that place was, ended up being where I grew an actual bond with the people on the GHC. before that, I knew of you all as just fellow posters and community members.

Around the time the Werewolf forums were made, I got added to SPV2 after asking to be added when that whole "ask to join" thing was happening. I grew an even closer bond to you all, then when we realized the whole forums were about to go up in flames, I and someone else proposed an idea to create a website for us all to go to. I attemped one, it kinda sucked, and then Marill created one which was much better and a big handful of the Secret Project kids joined up. So began this place.

PS. I don't remember shit about Olinea and I am convinced he joined like AS the move was happening, because I have zero memories of yo ass, b0i.

I always thought Guitar Hero was really dumb until I played it at a friend's house. It was fun, so I bought it. About half a year later, GH3 came out, so I bought that eventually. I saw the thing in the loading page that said you could link your scores online, so I went and did that and saw they had their forums there so I thought it would be fun to talk about Guitar Hero with other people and maybe help me get better too.

Eventually, I ventured into the Off-Topic area and joined in the cool little TCA group they had there. Then a bunch of them just started posting hentai/shock pictures all over the place and got banned and the TCA dissolved so that was less fun. But it was still all right and got better again. I remember seeing a lot of you guys from around that time (some before, some after) and we had some good times until they went all dumb on us and made the GHH thing.

After GHC turned to GHH, I pretty much stopped going there for about a year (?). A lot of people I remembered from the GHC had left so I was probably going to be leaving again until I got the invite to the Secret Project. My memory gets a little fuzzy about then, but I think SPV2 was in full swing once I got back and SPV3 was created shortly after. I guess if I'd waited a little longer to come back, I probably wouldn't be here today. Especially since I can't even access my account on that website anymore. So yay me.

Psssh, noobs.

I joined sometime in the summer of 2007, right when the Golden Age (people actually called it that) of the GH-whatever-it-was-called-then was fading off. The users I associate with that time period are like: Axl, Axeman, Julieiscool, KingOfKills (which was just a different account from a guy that got banned, but I don't remember his original name), Lambchop, etc. I think the only one still here that was there before/at the same time as me was Lightning.

Anyway, I joined because I was obsessed with Guitar Hero 3 to the point of where one time I just Googled 'Guitar Hero' and went to the site and eventually signed up for some reason that I don't even remember. I mostly hung out in the GH3 forum for a long time, because I wasn't comfortable jumping into the OT gang which seemed so cliquey. Iunno, eventually I did and sort of start being a presence there, as well as in the WT forum when that came out. I was on the team that mostly cracked the GH5 setlist before it came out (HAS EVERYONE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS?).

The GHC turned into the GHH magically and I ended up having the second most posts after the reset, but that's less impressive in retrospect.

All you bitches with your Tour Groups. It took me forever to join one because I really didn't care at all. I think I only joined Snow Shredders because whoever was my virtual best friend at the time was in it. Then that merged with Symbolic Doom, so I went there. Yeah, I didn't really care about TG's at all. Pretty sure I got invited to SPV because I was really active and old in the normal forums, mostly Off-Topic.

I'm pretty sure Olinea joined really near the end and instantly won us over with his boyish charm. This is the opposite of what Romanticide did--instantly winning us over with his kinda intimidating personality. I was scared of Ro for a long time. He was also there for a lot longer, but yeah, he jumped into the spotlight a lot faster than most people did.

MAYBE I WAS OBSESSED WITH IT BEFORE IT CAME OUT. HUH, BUD? HUH?

But really, I remember I was 12 when I joined because I was always scared of getting retroactively banned after I turned 13, and I'm 19 now, so it was some time in 2007. I thought it was summer for some reason.

I think the past is for the dead and for historians, so this is probably the first/last time I'll make such a post.

I think the first time I had ever seen Guitar Hero was when I was attending lollege in Duluth. Some of the guys I had gotten to know from a trip to New Orleans were playing GH2 at their place. I remember getting to try it and... being totally perplexed by the controller. I literally did not understand how to use it. So yeah, not a good experience.

Fast forward to winter 2007, after GH3 came out. My sister became enamored with it after playing it at a friend's or a party or some such, and she's like "LOL RO WHY DON'T YOU GET GH3!!1" or something like that. Fuck if I remember. I told her I'd get it if she paid half the money. She gave me $50, we found a copy at a local Gamestop, and we played through the entire setlist on easy because I still sucked cocks. I want to say it was Christmas Eve, when you'd think this was impossible, but you must know this was in a city of 50k. Shortages of popular stuff aren't really a thing.

She eventually kinda grew out of it, probably in part because I had the Wii, and probably in part because she was never a big gamer in the first place. Life also conspired because lollege and such.

I think I found the GHC/H/whatever it was/is now not long after buying the game. I noticed you could link the game to the site, and being the curious bugger I am, I did just that. I could not tell you what possessed me to join; it's been so long. At that time I had another community I was part of, and one that has now mercifully been closed. I didn't really *need* another site but I joined anyway. Turned out to be for the best, though.

I didn't do the whole tour group thing. I mean, I was in one but didn't contribute. I think I just joined the first one that invited me, lol. Idk, I thought it was too silly for my tastes and I didn't really click with the people.

I feel like from this point on, many of you know what I was about. You saw me post, you have your own opinions on me/my posts. There isn't much more I can say that my body of posting did not say.

As for the games themselves, I worked my way up to expert by the time GHA came out, but I was still a relative newbie to the level. One of the better things about that game is that it was the easiest game at the time, on all difficulty levels. If you started with GH3 but wanted something you could feasibly improve on, GHA was that game. It felt like a good intermediate step between the early tiers of GH3 and between the batshit insane later tiers of GH3.

GHWT came out and I loved the idea of vocals/drums, since I don't think RB2 was yet a thing.

*looks that up*

Okay, RB2 came out two months later, but until then, WT was all we had on the wasteland for rhythm games that was the Wii. We all know the vocals system was fucking broken, which sucked ass. I would have LOVED to sing that game's setlist (so I say now), but at the time it was so broken that I didn't want to waste the time learning the engine.

RB2 was the best rhythm game ever but this is a GH topic. Suffice it to say that my investment in RB DLC (and to a lesser extent, GH DLC) kept me playing these games on Wii long after I had a PS3 - I couldn't just transfer my songs, which might have been technical limitations on all three systems.

So back to GH. GH5 was even better than WT, being more polished in general and having a setlist that was pretty fun in its own right. It still wasn't easy to sing, which again kept me from singing in that game. I thought it was the easiest game in the series, but a large part of that was probably just me improving - the crazy songs in GH5 were crazy in a way we had never seen in the series. (sup Scatterbrain/21CSM) As for WoR, that's probably the best game from an engine standpoint merely because vocals were finally playable by humans, but the setlist/difficulty was skewed towards guitar players. Even so, it's fun to play like any GH.

I don't have a favorite setlist from the main GH games; none of them stand out more (or less) to me than the setlists in the other games. I know most of you can pick one, but I've never been able to. /shrug

I was 21 at the time of joining and I had been on message boards before. I knew how they work. A lot of you were like 12-14 and might not have been on a message board before, therefore it took you time to figure out the mores/norms of the board and message board culture in general.

I knew the first unwritten rule of any board: Make quality posts and you will be accepted. It's how you all were invited here. Well, I sometimes wonder about saiyan but he contributes a certain something to the group dynamic.

That said, I was an asshole because people were stupid. Find me being an asshole and you'll most likely find a stupid post being torn to shreds. People still are stupid; I just try to avoid communities with low standards these days.

I remember seeing GHII for the first time in a local Best Buy, and becoming pretty much enamored with it. I was in the same Wii situation though, so when news finally broke about GHIII being on the Wii, I had to have it. I got it for Christmas of 2007 and I never looked back.

Doing the math in my head right now, I don't really remember when I joined the forums. If I had joined around Xmas of 2007, I would have been 11. I don't think I joined that early, but maybe I just lurked around the GHIII and challenge forums before I made it to off-topic. I joined the GHC under the name ROCKTOPEEUH, only because I thought that your name in the forum had to be the same as your in-game name. I grew tired of that name pretty quickly, and when I could change it, I changed it to theGHPwner (which I regret to this day because A. I'm not sure I was THAT great and B. it's pretty infantile, but I guess I can't change that now.)

I made a couple of friends on those forums, but they were very short-lived. They seemed to only pop up once and then disappear after I played with them a couple times. Anyway, I moved to off-topic after the rest of the forums started to grow old, and I properly met people like Lightning, Romanticide (who also terrified me mainly because I had a little kid's brain and he seemed OMG SO ADVANCED), Ghost, Darkie, Marill, etc. I also joined the Wii Rockers tour group (because Wii right?) and I met people like dwest and Snowy there, along with the forgotten members of that group.

When the forums made the switch from the GHC to the GHH, I left for a while. I still played the games, I just didn't come back to the forums to post regularly. After I did, things carried on as normal. I met a couple new people like Volt and Oli (IIRC) and had a generally good time.

I don't remember when I got added to the SPV2 forum, but it popped up one day and I was pretty happy. This close-knit little group of people who I had kinda been acquaintances with grew into a dysfunctional family. I took another little hiatus, and the day back from that hiatus I noticed I had a PM from Volt talking about how the forums had grown sour and that our little group should make a forum switch. I joined, and I think except for 1 or 2 other stretches of time that I had not been here, I have frequented here ever since. Pretty coo'

This is ro's way of saying he loves us<3 We love you too, buddy

EDIT I think the first time I ever "met" or knew of the existence of Ro was after he had been interviewed by the mods for that community spotlight thingy they did (I believe Nikkilove interviewed Ro and he had that fuckin' santa hat picture) but yeah, I saw his posts, but he never rose to prominence as a major user on the boards to me until I saw that, and began to notice him much more often. Then, of course, SPV happened.
