So Iron Fist was cast and almost every article and complaining they didn't cast an asian actor. Here's the thing. I'm perfectly fine with changing a white character's race. There are few examples where I would be against it and every time it has happened so far I've had no problem with it or even was happy about it (Michael B Jordan as the Torch sounded awesome). That said, there should be no need to get upset when they DON'T change the race. Yes, I am aware that Iron First is somewhat racist, at the very least it is an insensitive cliché. But how would changing him to an asian fix this? You literally trade one problen to another. It us still racist to just make the kung fu guy asian, and even more racist to beg for that to happen. Would I have had a problem with an Asian Iron Fist? No, but imo it seems to be one of the worst options. If you are going to change his race why not to Black, Native American, or Hispanic? You avoid the asian stereotype AND the white savior trope. I mean I get where people are coming from, but it's not as if making him asian is going to erase all the problems. This isn't to mention the fact that making him asian would actually change his story. At least changing it the way people want to change it. Everyone seems to want to change it to a third or more generation asian-american who re-connects with his culture. Once again, it has been made more racist and changes the character. Plus it is also a pretty tired trope for minority characters, especially Asians. This wouldn't have to be the way to do it, but seems to be the way most people want it. Also, Danny being white isn't essential to his character, but it does add tension and drama between him and Luke. On one hand you have Luke, someone who didn't choose his powers and suffers from the mistreatment of black people in america. Then you have this guy who is literally the definition of white priviledge. I'm not sure how much this happens in the comics, but I'm pretty sure it has happened before at least. The worst crime of course is in two articles I have seen two different writers claim there are no Asian super people in the MCU, despite Spoiler: click to toggle So I can understand being upset, but I mean, people are supposedly boycotting Netflix over this. It's ridiculous. Not to mention it ignore the possibility that Asian actors could've been considered. I'm still just trying to figure where the rage is for a lack of Hispanic and Latino characters in the MCU, which is an outrage. So far we have what? 4 Hispanic or Latino actors outside of extras? One of which have powers, but he's literally been around as a small role in like 3 episodes.I mean, there are more Asian-americans in the MCU than they are Hispanic or Latino characters, despite being the largest minority in the US. That should be the biggest outrage among fans just ahead of the lack of female superheroes which should be about even. Like I said, I would've been ok with an Asian-american Danny Rand, but sticking to the source isn't bad either. Now if was an Asian cast as a white guy, I would be pissed. Like one article said though, by the time Luke Cage comes out and we see him, most people probably aren't even going to give a crap, and probably forget they were upset in the first place. |

I don't really know anything about Iron Fist, but I am bothered by Marvel's (or the MCU's, rather) problem with diversity. It's one of the main reasons I'm completely turned off by the movies nowadays: because I'm not interested in seeing yet another straight, white, cisgender male superhero save the world. I mean sure, there's been some progress. Agents of SHIELD is awesome for its diverse cast, Agent Carter and Jessica Jones finally gave us female leads of their own shows. And we finally got some gay characters (tho Joey hasn't appeared much on SHIELD, and with Hogarth in Jessica Jones, something something Bury Your Gays something). It's a start, but it definitely can be much better.

It's definitely going to get better for Marvel. Upcoming, they have Luke Cage's show, the Black Panther movie, a Captain Marvel movie (tho who knows when that will happen), and Inhumans, which should be pretty diverse. They obviously still need to work on it, but they're getting there. Plus, I imagine we'll start seeing some legacy heroes like in the comics once RDJ and Chris Evans decide to not do anymore Marvel movies. Honestly, having Danny Rand be the white privileged American he is in the comics could work really well. Netflix has shown they can handle very complex situations well via superhero stories. If they can handle a rape victim pretty well, I like to imagine that they could tell a pretty decent story addressing privilege and the white savior trope. I think they could do well here. It also works better if they go with the fact that he's not the first Iron Fist. Also, it's a fairly decent point that having the first major Asian-American character from either of the Big 2 cinematic universes be a kung-fu expert seems... not ideal. |

http://io9.gizmodo.com/captain-america-civil-war-has-a-huge-problem-and-agents-1763469505 Can't say I expected Civil War to acknowledge any of the ABC or Netflix shows, but it's disappointing to hear that Civil War's writers didn't even know there were a bunch of Inhumans running around. I know all the parts of the MCU have different writers/staff and everything, but it doesn't seem like it'd be that difficult to pay someone to watch the content from the parts they're not writing for so they could be more connected. The Inhuman problem is getting kinda big on SHIELD, to the point where I really don't think it could go unnoticed by the Avengers. I don't think Daredevil would have attracted too much attention, but Kilgrave mind-controlling at least hundreds of people should've been noticed by someone since that's pretty unnatural. I don't know if/when the movies will ever start to bring in stuff from the shows, but I hope Netflix and ABC can reference each other at some point. After all, SHIELD is supposed to be looking for powered people, you'd think they'd find Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and friends by the time the next season of SHIELD is in production. |

The shows definitely need to intermingle a little bit at least. I mean, I guess SHIELD is more concerned about Inhumans though than any powered people. If they've noticed these guys then they probably figured they got their stuff down. A mention would be nice though. The movies I understand that it's hard to arrange to reference the shows. The movies are normally filmed way before the seasons that correlate. Hopefully Infinity War we can see some people pop up. Even Coulson can pop up. I know it is complicated, but they could explain it. Might feel cheap though is the biggest problem. The new Civil War trailer is pretty great. Spider-man looked off, but apparently the compression of the Youtube trailer made it where the small details of the suit weren't visible and thus gave it a fake look to it. The high resolution picture looks good though and I've went from not feeling it to absolutely loving it. It's different, but it's definitely the closest to the original design we've seen so far. From the simplicity to the little logo and bug on the back. Really can't wait to see how it looks on the big screen though. Hopefully BvS will play the trailer so I can see it sooner rather than later. |

My favorite are the comments saying that critics only like Marvel movies or ones similar, despite The Dark Knight trilogy was better received than the MCU. |

I'm going into it with fairly lower expectations than before, but still higher than most people. DC's my life, man, I need this. Once I see it, probably tomorrow, I'll post my thoughts on it, either here or in, if it's bad enough, the Thread of Hate. |

So yeah, I saw it, and I didn't hate it! I wish it could have been better, obviously, because I want the Justice League universe to work, but you know, not terrible. So here's my thoughts I guess: BvS
