This annoys me so much. People would rather trust the artificial hype machine than objective reviews. Yes, sometimes reviewers can be a bit pretentious, but at least they generally know what they're talking about. I understand that the action scenes is why a lot of people watch these movies, and I will admit they're usually pretty good. But if the rest of the movie doesn't hold up or is absolute garbage, I'm gonna feel like I wasted my time. Audience reviews tend to respond well to spectacle. For that very reason, I don't trust audience reviews. |

Humble Bundle is doing a thing with a bunch of Buffy and Angel comics right now. I didn't expect it to have everything, but I do think it's pretty weird that they have vol 1 of Buffy season 8 and vol 1 of Buffy season 9, but... not the rest of season 8 to get you to season 9. Also kinda weird that they didn't throw Fray in there, but I have that (and haven't finished it oops) anyway. Probably gonna end up getting it, it runs for a couple weeks though. |

I've started getting into comic books lately. I loved reading Donald Duck and stuff as a kid, but I never really thought much about super hero comics outside of Paperinik/Duck Avenger (and I can't seem to find any of those awesome comics online for sale or otherwise). I've been reading on my tablet, I downloaded comiXology and it's fucking awesome. Haven't read a whole lot, but I have checked out some Batman comics like "Year One", "The Killing Joke" and I'm currently reading "Hush" (holy fuck this one is awesome). I've also just checked out some free samples of The Walking Dead (and bought Volume 1, "Days Gone Bye", really liked #1, and it was cool to see how close it was to the beginning of season 1 of the show) and Jessica Jones (I'll probably buy some of that stuff). There's something really nice about sitting down in a good chair and just reading some comics, reminds me of being a kid and it's just really relaxing and fun. The art in the more modern ones (Killing Joke and Hush especially) are fucking incredible as well. If you guys have any recommendations for me, I'd really appreciate it. I've mostly just checked out stuff I've loved from movies and TV shows (Jessica Jones, Batman, Walking Dead and I want to check out Daredevil), but I'm open for basically anything! |

Well, I think a lot of us will recommend Saga, so let's get that out of the way. Awesome Star Wars meets Romeo and Juliet type deal from the amazing writer Brian K. Vaughan and the amazing artist Fiona Staples. Heard Vaughan's other works are pretty great too, but I've only read Runaways, which I'd also recommend (teen superheroes vs. their supervillain parents). Snow's been wanting me to read Y: The Last Man, and I should. Also heard his Dr. Strange comic The Oath is pretty good too. I'd def recommend continuing The Walking Dead. It gets pretty intense, especially later down the line when they get to the more major antagonists. Also from Robert Kirkman, I could recommend Outcast. Only read the first volume, but it seems pretty interesting. More horror-focused than TWD, it's about demon possessions and whatnot. I realize horror can be a big turnoff for people, but I grew up on it so *shrug*. Iunno if you'd be into children/teen comics, but Lumberjanes is easily one of my favorites. Girls summer camp where supernatural stuff has been happening. Really great characters, s'pretty funny, awesome diverse representation, I love it so much. The artstyle could probably be a turnoff though. It's a very simple kiddie look that I think some people probably wouldn't be into (my signature is from it so you can see what it looks like). |

Well there's certainly plenty to check out for Daredevil. Frank Miller's stuff is probably best to start, then Brian Michael Bendis', then Mark Waid's. If you like Batman, then there is so much. Grant Morrison's stuff is my favorite, it's like one really long story (this is a good reading order, you can skip the intro stuff). The Scott Snyder/Greg Capullo Batman stuff (basically all the New 52 Batman) is good, as is the Batman & Robin series that went alongside it. I have heard that Long Halloween and Dark Victory are good as well, need to read them. Also Black Mirror. And Dark Knight Returns is essential. There's some nice Superman stuff as well. All Star Superman, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, Red Son, Birthright, For the Man Who Has Everything. Also Kingdom Come is not really a Superman story, but it focuses on him the most, AND IT'S FUCKING INCREDIBLE. In fact, Grant Morrison is my favorite writer, so anything by him is fantastic. Animal Man, All Star Superman, his Batman, Nameless, Multiversity, Wonder Woman Earth One are all good. Check out his other stuff too. Sandman is very good, but very very long. Brian Azzarello's Wonder Woman is great. Sex Criminals is fun. There's a buncha good stuff out there. |

Like LAD said, Saga. Another thing I'd recommend from Brian K. Vaughan is Y: The Last Man. I haven't read a ton of comics, but it's my favorite series. |

Wow! Thank you guys so much :D Outcast sounds really cool, I hate horror movies and games (can't handle it lol), but I really like written horror, like Lovecraft. I've seen Saga in the store, but ignored it because I've never heard of it :p I'll have the check out the Miller's Daredevil stuff to start of, should be good. I hadn't hesrd of Dr Strange until I saw the movie trailer, lol. I wanna check out the comic, seems interesting. I think I've heard of all those Batman stories Mac mentioned, and I definitely wanna check them out. I don't think the teenagr-y comics are my taste (I think I prefer more grim stuff, because I'm such a tough and grim dude (jk)) but if I find a sample or something I'm definitely checking it out. I've never been a big Superman fan but I'm definitely down to check out some good stuff. Kingdom Come sounds good, Mac's excitement is intriguing :p Again, thanks for all the suggestions, now all I need is infinite money! |
