We have two shops near me. One is connected to a record store, and there's literally every kind of comic, not to mention all the merch and shit. It's kinda intimidating cause it's kinda big and a bit unorganized and the people seem kinda hipstery., and really only one of the guys is a superhero guy, but he's pretty nice and helpful. The other is newer, is much better organized, and they're very nice (they know me by name!). So it all just comes down to the shop.

I've been to the Atlantis Games & Comics in Portsmouth and Borderless Comics in Chesapeake, but never bought anything from them. Feels really intimidating going to a comic book store, really. Like I'm not knowledgeable enough of a comic fan to be in there.
Pfft. If you know what you want, that's enough knowledge. I've only been to two comic stores, but neither of those stores gave me a pop quiz before I could shop.
Psssh, I know but when I've been there, those shops have been full of people geeking out on tabletop games and Yu-Gi-Oh. Makes me uncomfortable when I try to browse comics. I'd much rather just avoid people and order comics online.

Oh, huh. The ones I've been to are the opposite -- I've never seen them full except on Free Comic Book Day. And these two don't have games either so there's not really room for that, but I have gone to a few tabletop game stores and they're cool but they seem pretty empty except for during scheduled events. One of the stores is mainly a Warhammer 40K store and they have these huge painted tables that work as battlefields I guess and it seems like it'd be really cool to watch, but Warhammer 40K figurines are really expensive. //off-topic

Yeah, one of the ones LAD is talking about used to be terrible. It was this little shop and there was like a rack and a counter separating the tabletop games and they could get really loud, some of them even a bit creepy (when I was with my fiance and her sister). Now it's at a much bigger sore though and it's separated quite a bit. The store is pretty much two halves, front half is merchandise and back half is games. It's also more organized now, but it's hardly organized.

Side-not comic-note, I collect monopoly and I was more than excited to see they had a my little pony monopoly set there, only seen it once before. Also had a dalek risk which I didn't know existed and a whole bunch of other cool themed board games.

Oh yeah, forgot the Atlantis store moved. My friend and I went in there like, the week before they moved. That's cool if they've separated the areas now. Maybe you and I can meet up there someday, CAL. :P

Have to get done Ms. Marvel then! I'm planning on catching up today, plus I read the first four runaway issues last night, turns out my fiance has read a bit of them.

It's not like it's separated by a wall, but the entire board game section separates the comics from the back section and the tables still sit back from there. I'd say it's twenty five or more feet between the comics and the tables compared to about five to ten feet at the old store.

Anybody know a good site to order single issue? I really want to get the physical copies of ms marvel and I'm not sure if the comic book shop would order back issues for me, which I wouldn't even think they would if it weren't for my fiance ordering the new doctor who comics, but those are brand new so figure it might not work that way

mycomicshop is good for finding old single issues. However because Ms. Marvel is so popular it'll probably be hard finding the earlier issues, and if you do they'll probably be expensive. I had to have my shop order the first 3 issues for me, and they were like, 2nd or 3rd printings. The trade is coming out soon though, and that should have the first 6 issues (i think) collected.

The TP comes out October 28th and it's the first five issues. Only ten bucks on Amazon, so that's cool.

That's what I'll if I gave to then, but I'll just ask somebody if maybe they could order them. I'd like to get the single issues since I doubt I'll be able to do it with any other sitseries. I mean I probably will start trying to keep lookout for GotG, but I only need to find the first four issues of ms marvel.

By the way, if anybody goes to New York make sure to check out midtown comics. I went to the Times square one and it was the floors of astounding geekiness. Definitely bringing spare money if I go up there again

I've ordered single issues from Things From Another World (tfaw.com) before and I'd order from them again. They usually have the last few issues of stuff listed on their website (right now the oldest Ms. Marvel they have is a 4th printing of #2), and they almost always have 10% discounts on brand new stuff. A lot of these Ms. Marvel reprints are 20% off list price. The only bad part is that sometimes you have to wait a while for backordered items, but you can order stuff while backordered and have it shipped right away, or just have it tell you (through email) when stuff is available. If I ever decide to catch up on single issues again (haven't done that for a while since I fell behind on TWD) I'll probably use them again when I don't get a chance to go to the store that week.

Ohey, just checked Humble Bundle and their newest Books Bundle is an Oni Press Comics Bundle. Only ones I see that I'd be interested in are Bryan Lee O'Malley's stuff (Lost at Sea and first two vols. of Scott Pilgrim) though.

Also in sales: DC currently has a bunch of digital Flash comics on sale to celebrate the show. Woo.

Cal: Yeah Midtown was awesome. It was so hard just trying to decide on what to get.

Definitely looking into that site then, thanks.

I had like no expendable money at that point, but my fiance got a set of dice. I probably would've gotten something with the little but of money I had, but we got there like thirty minutes before theyclosed

Well my comic book shop was able to order issues 2, 3, and 4 for me, but they couldn't get 1. They had 5, 6, and 7 so bought those and now just have to wait a couple weeks to read them

Ordered Ms Marvel 1 first print off ebay. Haven't taken out the plastic, not sure if I want to. Next week I'll be getting the others and tonight I'm going to set it up so they order the new issue every month for me
