Star Wars: Shattered Galaxy

Episode I: Rise of Heroes

It has been over a hundred years, since former Jedi Master Hadrius Cul, the Black General, took the dissaffected and downtrodden, and massed them into the largest military force the galaxy had ever seen.

It has been over one hundred years, since the final battle of the Wave of Darkness hit Coruscant, and the skyline of the city planet was set ablaze. Since the Republic was shattered. Since every major, and most minor shipyards were destroyed. Since most of the galaxies armies and fleets were vanquished. Since a complex virus destroyed the galactic holonet.

It has been over one hundred years, since the Galaxy was shattered.

Today, a large empire, or alliance, of worlds might number half a dozen. Today, the largest fleets might near twenty five capital ships and two hundred fighters.

The Jedi and Sith, like all Force users, are despised or distrusted, through most of the galaxy. Yet they still exist, in small numbers. The hardy Mandalorians still thrive, damaged less from the great war than many others. Small pockets of what was once the Empire or the Republic exist, a few worlds here, claiming such a title, or a few there.

The galaxy has endured over one hundred years of darkness, with it's focus on survival, rather than war, or advancement. Ships have fallen to disrepair. Economies, now far more isolated, either thrive, or falter, based on local issues, rather than galactic.

A dark power is rising in the galaxy, hidden from the site of all, silent, and unknown.

The Galaxy has been shattered for far too long.......

The collapse of a centralized galaxy, specifically, the importance of Coruscant, left the galactic community at a loss for the first time in many tens of thousands of years. This great prize, this beacon of civilization.....was worthless, and meaningless.

That left a number of voids, that would have been filled instantly, had not the collapse of Coruscant coincided with the collapse of every major political organization in the galaxy.

Still, nature, and I suppose, the Force, abhor a vacuum. And so, from the ashes, a few people did climb out, and establish their own individualistic importance.

The Mandalorians, largely untouched by the last great war, sheltered themselves for many years. However, they sent their organized mercenary corps out, rating units or individuals, bartering contracts, and growing wealthy on the wars of others, oft times never even getting their own hands dirty. My time on New Mandalore left me with the impression it has made them somewhat softer than they once were.

Others, such as the Chiss Ascendancy, or the Nadeshii, chose isolation, rebuilding quietly, and fiercely guarding what little remained. Some accuse them of having turned their backs on the rest of the galaxy....abandoning them in their time of greatest need. I prefer to think of them as being smart, and opting to take care of what they could, rather than be brought low failing to save the whole.

Of all the shattered places of the galaxy, however, few places adapted as fast, or as efficient, as Kuat. The loss of the famous Kuat Drive Yards crippled them for nearly a decade. But ship building was what they knew best, and so their priority became rebuilding the yards, and an ample fleet to defend their lone star system with.

You see, patrolling a single system, a fleet of half dozen or so capital ships was easy for. So even in the early days, Kuat's lack of expansionism paid off in spades. And because everyone had heard of the tragic ends of the original shipyards, everyone assumed the Kuati people were finished. The new yards were operational for over two years, before almost anyone even knew. And they were churning out ships of war.

But Kuat managed to keep their minds in the right place. The built a navy capable of fiercelt and efficiently patrolling their lone star system, but aside from envoy missions, specifically to promote trade, the Kuati kept their fleet at home.

Eventually, their status as the most efficient ship builders returned, and that made them a valuable commodity. Their lack of interest in expansion made them easy allies to most, and Kuat became a neutral ground. I'm told, and I believe it to be true, that there hasn't been a space battle worth noting, in their system, in almost fifty years. To attack Kuat, or initiate hostilities there, is to draw the ire of not just the Kuati, but also of all those who do business with them, or would seek to.

Huh? I wonder if this is why they think I'm crazy?

Ra awoke to the hyperspace claxon. They were dropping from hyperspace at Kuat. He blinked, stretched lazily, yawned, and pulled a small visor from his belt, placing it over his eyes. "Well, well, well. Kuat. We should stop off for a drink, if we get a second to rest, I know a couple really nice bars here. Meantime, can I borrow your comm station, Calin ol' chap? Let them know we're coming, secure a landing site, have our new ship prepped, all that."

Jesera slowly opened her eyes, her focus coming back to the here and now. Ra was certainly up to something, though she couldn't be sure just what it was yet. She gave Calin a look of caution, then nodded, almost imperceptably.

Maz watched, as the shuttle carrying a number of technicians, aides, as well as the dignitaries from the previous meeting.....joined by a spoiled princess, and her personal guards.....came across the end of the covered dry dock, rounding the corner, to let the prototype Star Destroyer come into view.

It's curved edges, pristine shine, and modern, yet archaic design took his breath away. What he wouldn't give, to command one of them in battle....

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the prototype of the Dawnstrike Class Star Destroyer, the Triumph. No warship ever built, in her size or designation class, can match her for a combination of speed, armor, firepower, or minimum crew efficiency needs. In just a few moments," The shuttle pulled slowly into the hangar area, between two rows of rather different fighters.....one was a squadron of twelve sleek, black, X-Wings, the other was of an unknown fighter design. "We'll be on the bridge, and you'll have a chance to see her leave spacedock for the first time ever."

D'Fyett arched an aging eyebrow. "Are those Stealth-X's? I thought only the Jedi had any more of those things now?"

Maz shrugged. "The buyers had both squadrons delivered about three weeks back. Not sure, with all this money they seem to have, why only two out of a possible four squadrons, but not my place to ask, either. Shall we?" He motioned towards the lowering ramp....

Barrick paced his ready room in obvious frustration. Jesera had eluded him, Ra Cul had surfaced. His data pad had been stolen. And numerous of his Widows had been slain. They were enroute to Kuat, the ship's captain had guarenteed that was where the hyperspace jump was targeting.

"What game are you playing, cousin? And what has Jesera told you already?"
