Star Wars: Shattered Galaxy

Episode I: Rise of Heroes

It has been over a hundred years, since former Jedi Master Hadrius Cul, the Black General, took the dissaffected and downtrodden, and massed them into the largest military force the galaxy had ever seen.

It has been over one hundred years, since the final battle of the Wave of Darkness hit Coruscant, and the skyline of the city planet was set ablaze. Since the Republic was shattered. Since every major, and most minor shipyards were destroyed. Since most of the galaxies armies and fleets were vanquished. Since a complex virus destroyed the galactic holonet.

It has been over one hundred years, since the Galaxy was shattered.

Today, a large empire, or alliance, of worlds might number half a dozen. Today, the largest fleets might near twenty five capital ships and two hundred fighters.

The Jedi and Sith, like all Force users, are despised or distrusted, through most of the galaxy. Yet they still exist, in small numbers. The hardy Mandalorians still thrive, damaged less from the great war than many others. Small pockets of what was once the Empire or the Republic exist, a few worlds here, claiming such a title, or a few there.

The galaxy has endured over one hundred years of darkness, with it's focus on survival, rather than war, or advancement. Ships have fallen to disrepair. Economies, now far more isolated, either thrive, or falter, based on local issues, rather than galactic.

A dark power is rising in the galaxy, hidden from the site of all, silent, and unknown.

The Galaxy has been shattered for far too long.......

Festivities to bring in the new year, of course. Huge celebrations everywhere, especially on Coruscant, Corellia, and Denon The sparade and flight demonstrations at Yavin, of course, though on a smaller scale than before and with less media coverage. For the first time in years, we can celebrate the new year without dread. Grief, yes, but not dread.

Well, perhaps the Vong bile on trial aren’t celebrating but that’s a plus. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to see those sorry curs in jail or dead or worse. Too bad their trials have been postponed until the new year’s celebrations are over.

Of course, we went to walk the streets, as usual. Everybody was out whooping and shouting. As galactic midnight approached (close to our own this year) there was silence or something close to it. Anticipating silence, not like the last few years when celebrations were half-hearted and half-attended at best. The time struck and everyone hollered in joyous revelry. “Long live the New Republic!” most everyone shouted. A few hailed the Galactic Alliance instead, but the mood was the same.

We went back home and Deni and Alys went to bed while me and Svar and Karie stayed up to watch the recording of the Coruscant celebrations. It was different from the last time the celebrations took place: bigger, flashier. Some new stuff, like the commemoration of Chief of State Fey’lya, given by Organa Solo. She did a fine job. CoS Omas spoke about peace and its fruits and formally reinstated Coruscant as the Galactic capital after arriving from Denon, carrying the Keys to the Galaxy and many important documents. In general, the mood was more somber ye more celebratory than usual. Kariea was only 9 last time the celebrations were held, so she doesn’t notice the change.

Other interesting changes were: 1) the mentions of the Galactic Alliance as opposed to the New Republic in every speech; I think Omas is still hoping the confederation coalesces into one solid government, despite the fact that the original attempt to organize it that way failed. And 2) in tandem with that, the model of the exploding Death Star was not included or even mentioned, presumably so as not to make the Remnant uneasy in this new Alliance, though I doubt that will happen, especially after the past five years of cooperation. There has never been such ‘galactic solidarity to usher in an era of galactic peace’, in the words of Master Skywalker at the celebrations. I agree.
