Star Wars: Shattered Galaxy

Episode I: Rise of Heroes

It has been over a hundred years, since former Jedi Master Hadrius Cul, the Black General, took the dissaffected and downtrodden, and massed them into the largest military force the galaxy had ever seen.

It has been over one hundred years, since the final battle of the Wave of Darkness hit Coruscant, and the skyline of the city planet was set ablaze. Since the Republic was shattered. Since every major, and most minor shipyards were destroyed. Since most of the galaxies armies and fleets were vanquished. Since a complex virus destroyed the galactic holonet.

It has been over one hundred years, since the Galaxy was shattered.

Today, a large empire, or alliance, of worlds might number half a dozen. Today, the largest fleets might near twenty five capital ships and two hundred fighters.

The Jedi and Sith, like all Force users, are despised or distrusted, through most of the galaxy. Yet they still exist, in small numbers. The hardy Mandalorians still thrive, damaged less from the great war than many others. Small pockets of what was once the Empire or the Republic exist, a few worlds here, claiming such a title, or a few there.

The galaxy has endured over one hundred years of darkness, with it's focus on survival, rather than war, or advancement. Ships have fallen to disrepair. Economies, now far more isolated, either thrive, or falter, based on local issues, rather than galactic.

A dark power is rising in the galaxy, hidden from the site of all, silent, and unknown.

The Galaxy has been shattered for far too long.......

Of all the things I have had to do, to fulfill my destiny as the Black General, what happens next, is the one I have dreaded the most. Not for fear that I will fail, for I have no doubt remaining. I will succeed. Too much depends on me doing so, for me to allow failure as an option.

No. It is because of what I will do here. The lives lost, the finality of this moment. My brother, whom I must face.

A ripple passed through the Force, as the great doors to the Senate Chamber blasted open. Black lightning curled around the remains of the doors,, as smoke twisted and curled.

And then, he was there. His black armor, trimmed in gold, shimmering in the lighting of the room. His twin sabers, gleaming red, and wrapped in the same eerie ebony lightning. Red light trailing from his eyes, almost like mist. His sandy brown hair, longer than before, rippling in the breeze and the smoke.

The living embodiement of the single star banner. Former Jedi Master. Former hero of the Republic.

Hadrius Cul, The Black General, had finally arrived.

"Most of you remained. Was it fear of what Pattin would do if you fled? Was it arrogance, that you could humble me, with your august presense? Because I certainly do not believe this many of you actually have the courage to face me, not with your troops diverted all over this waste of a planet, futily engaging my forces." Hadrius's voice carried throughout the vast chamber, carrying the intensity it had, in every speech, in every command, in every moment, in which he'd drawn nearly have the forces in the galaxy to his side. "It was within the power of this useless body of power hungry fools, to have prevented all of this. But you chose self service, over unity. And so, it is fitting, that each of you is here, at the end of days."

Hadrius advanced steadily, towards the lone man standing in the center of the chamber, at ground level, not bothering to waste his gaze on the hundreds of assembled senators. "Know this, the building is sealed. You are locked in here, and this chamber will be your tomb. There will be no rescue, and there will be no escape." Hadrius continued forward, now standing in the small circle at the base of the great chamber, slowly circling the lone figure opposing him.

"I am truly sorry that it is you I face here, Zann. But it had to be this way, with all that's come to pass, didn't it? You and me, here, at the end."

The battle was raging, Zann could feel the ever present ripple of lives lost, emanating through the force. But it was not Zann's place, nay, his fate to be with them this day, fighting the battle with them. The force had led him to this final confrontation, with the man that represented so much in his life. First his pupil, a prized student. Then a friend and a brother. If was his responsibility, his duty to face him. It was the will of the force. So Zann bided his time in the Senate chamber, surrounded by the hushed figures of Senators, awaiting the arrival of his former student, his brother, his friend.

The force shall guide me. The galaxy cries for this war to come to an end, and that responsibility lies upon me, heavily upon me....

The doors to the Senate building flew open with an almighty crash and forks of black lightning. He had changed, drawing upon his emotion to fuel the force. Hadrius strode purposefully towards him, eyes aglow, lightsabers drawn, surrounded by ebony lightning, resplendent in his immaculately designed armor. He made a fearsome sight, and yet Zann felt no fear in his heart. Remorse, sorrow for what he was required to do, but never fear. His gray robes billowed around him, and he radiated every iota as much power as Hadrius, though in a different sense entirely.

"Nothing is ever sealed Hadrius. There is always another avenue, another path that has not been foreseen. Even you must know that. It is not too late for you to choose another path, if you only desire to see it." Zann spoke with a calmness, a soft spoken confidence, but with such power behind it, it may chill an ordinary man.

Zann let his outer robes drop to the floor at his feet, freeing him for motion. His twin lightsabers were clipped to his belt, their blue and silver hilts giving off a dull gleam. He pulled them off slowly, feeling the heft of the hilts in his hand. He took a deep breath as he pressed both activators, letting the lethal blades hiss and snap towards their full length. If there was one man that he had never wanted to draw these blades against, he was standing right in front of him. Zann knew he could win, furthermore, he knew that he must win. He held his blades at his sides, tilted down as he faced Hadrius.

"I have no wish to do this, nor do I truly believe you do. But I cannot let you continue down your current path. Much pain and sorrow follows in your wake, that is why it cannot be allowed to continue.

Hadrius shook his head, a great wearinesson his face for the briefest of moments. "No, Zann. My mind walked the path of a thousand, thousand, futures. In each one, the Jedi fell. In each one, the darkness triumphed. In each one, groups like this pathetic host of self serving, arrogant, manipulating fools, helped cause it." He swept his sabers out to the sides, pointing towards the assembled senators. From somewhere, perhaps thirty or so rows of seat up, a single blaster shot rang out, flashing towards Hadrius's head. And with the, Hadrius released the ebony lightning curling on his blades, sending it arcing across the room, showering sparks with each new booth it arced across.

And with that, Hadrius and his famous blades, were in motion.

He turned into the blast, his sabers beginning their accustomed circular dance. In a sweeping motion, the blaster bolt was reflected with precise aim, back to the very gun it was fired from. But Hadrius continued his spin, sabers twirling elegantly, as he closed on Zann.

The energy Hadrius was radiating was magnificent, and heartbreaking, all at once. Even with the work of Master Skywalker, and the others, before Skywalker had fallen, and the power of Hadrius's ultimate meld mostly broken, he was still supercharged with the energy and emotions of his remaining forces. But there was an intricate darkness in it. A willing submission. And the same infallible drive, and unbreakable spirit, Hadrius had possessed as a Jedi, still clung, perhaps even stronger, fueled by the Dark Side.

His sabers struck off of Zann's, each twisting and turning, four blades spinning, colliding, sparking, cutting, at unimaginable speeds. It seemed to last an eternity.

The first engagement was mere moments, as Hadrius's spin carried him past Zann.

Blades still spinning, as the ebony lightning claimed several more victims, before fizzling out, Hadrius nodded to his former Master. "Nice exchange. Mannanan always though highly of your skills, Zann. And, on any other day, you'd be my better. Just not this day. Not with everything that the galaxy stands to lose, if I fail today. Leave the field, Zann. Get clear of Coruscant. What's been set into motion can no longer be stopped, and if you'd seen where it leads, you might not even want to stop it anyway."
