I just want to start a topic because the debate board is empty...

It's also called RH Bill, if I remember correctly.

Which side will you take?

The Government? (Pro)

The Church? (Anti)

I think I'm against it but I hate it when the priest discusses it during masses.

What are we, in 16th century Italy? The debate isn't about who has the better point; it's about whether or not the government will allow the intervention of the church.

Why I'm anti-RH:There are several methods/items covered that facilitate abortion.

One's freedom of choice imo, ends with whether to have sex or not and whether to wear protection while having sex. When the act results to pregnancy, one's right to live child-free is canceled by the child's right to live.

I'd say, let the producers sell their stuff and practitioners do their jobs. The Church and the government are free to influence the decision of the people when it comes to their lifestyles. I just don't think the government has to enact something covering an issue as basic as RH. Maybe it's overestimating the intelligence of the Filipino but to need a law to help men and women decide on their sexual options- it's really stupid.

What do you think?

Can you adjust your sig because it's beyond the board's default max length (and way beyond what's allowable by my screen- before it makes use of horizontal scroll bars). It's annoying.

I specifically measured the length allowable by our boards, which is 1060. But okay. Maybe rescale it to around 90%.

Still, although the church is free to influence the government and/or the people, basically the extent of the control it has over the government's decisions should IMO just be as limited as something like PETA and their brothels. Sure, we live in a predominantly catholic country but more or less the influence of the church should be arbitrary. They have logic but if that's the cost of development then so be it. Ideals tend to go first, but they shouldn't always. Like how the youth believe in those movies wherein they refuse to sacrifice themselves and their loved one for the sake of the world, trying to think that there's always some other way.

That, or we get some better politicians, servicemen, and government employees, and people who aren't too mentally retarded to use birth control. You see, this is why I want to go to Europe <_< .

The Catholic Church shouldn't have any control over the govt at all. There's no such thing as state religion in Phl. They have every right to make a fool of themselves with their medieval antics. What I don't get is how the government reacts to this bullying. The state is independent and it can freely decided whether or not to be influenced by groups- unless of course it has a dirty secret that the bishops know too well. Still, it all could just be the media beating a dead horse on a slow news day.

You know, somehow I feel as if the government just fears a reaction from the public. I mean, why should birth control be such a controversial thing? In fact, I think there's more controversy and gossip in our country than there is change, much less development.

Well, I suppose that, given our history, we weren't bred to be an independent nation. We weren't bred to be a nation at all - just a colony passed from one ownership to another whose only sense of unity comes from the oppressors. In fact the Spanish actually did us a huge favor if ever we were to compete globally. But, despite introducing civilization to our Neanderthal ancestors, they still had to manage it themselves - that's why we can't. Helping someone is not assisting in his/her development - it actually hinders it. The only time help is beneficial is when he/she is stuck in a situation that he/she can handle but can't at the moment.

So basically, America should just integrate us as one of its states or something like Guam. Who cares if the Filipino want us to be independent, we can't even finish a political conference without asking about the lovelife of our president. We were raised to be slaves and helpers. Analogically, dogs were meant to be man's helper; you release one back into the wild only to see that it is devoid of all feral instinct. And when you try to take it back, it hypocritically

So, bottom line, the executive government sucks. No, we can never resolve the RH Bill. No, we will never be a first-world country. I would suppose this is why I speak English better than Filipino and like Western cuisine better than ours. Colonial mentality is a parasite in the minds of the Filipino people - the only one keeping them alive.

It's easier to ask here than google?

My Thoughts Exactly

Do you want to create a thread for BBS terms and abbreviations?

Before I posted that I checked the search engine and the first among search results was an entry from the urban dictionary containing the definition that matched the context of the comment.
