To every able bodied dire handler and pack, By order of the Empress and Shadowguarde Council of Sekkai, the dire wolves and their partners are urged to band together and travel north to the fortress of Vien. You are asked to retake the fortress for your Empress and your nation and use it to protect these lands from the vile influence of the Taint. Cover our northern flank, make it your new home, and make it a bulwark to stand against invaders. All those handlers wishing to follow these orders and blaze a new path for your kind, meet with Crimson Eclipse pack Alphas Naviki and Alsvior on the next full phase of the moon Kreznik. Be geared, prepared, and have your wits about you. Success means the dawn of a new era for the dire wolves of Sekkai. --Naviki Cahalunim, Crimson Eclipse Alpha ~~~***~~~ They were going home. At long last, Naviki was going to be able to travel north again--and if luck was on her side, stay there. The meeting with the Shadowguarde had been long and unexpected, but both pack Alphas had been included. The Empress's instructions were clear. The Academy wasn't necessarily running out of room for the dire wolves, but with the draux population suddenly growing and the Taint nipping at the heels of their nation, Kahna and her Shadowguarde had decided more needed to be done. The military police was, so far, doing its best to keep civil unrest at bay. Now, it was time for the dire wolves to step into a new role. Naviki agreed to give up her position within the military police for this task. Vien had long been abandoned since being sacked by the Taint. It was a perfect place to keep an eye on Sekkai's northern flank. Why it hadn't been retaken yet already was a mystery to most. Alsvior's handler agreed with their superiors and sought to change that. Upon a grassy hill, beneath the setting full face of Kreznik, a huge tawny moonrunner lifted her nose to the sky in song. If anyone forgot, she would remind them. Her sister, Arvakr, would surely be along any moment. The sundasher was her sibling and pack-second after all. Naviki stood in the balmy, sub-tropical dawn, looking overdressed for the temperature. Her dire, armed in hard leather armor and weighed down with the essentials, also appeared overdressed. But they knew. The north was harsh, even at the tail end of winter. They might have waited longer, until the actual spring thaw came, except that the Shadowguarde made the fair point that in order to get rebuilding underway, they might need some extra time to be sure they were all there and ready once the ground came away from its deep freeze. It would be hard going for several months while they rebuilt, but they were dire riders. They could handle it. Alsvior certainly believed they could. Naviki felt confidence and eagerness radiating off of her beast in waves. But first, they had to wait and see who would answer the summons of their nation. Welcome to the start of the dire plot! Vien is going to be retaken and repurposed for the use of the dires and their handlers! At least, that's the plan >D This thread is going to serve as an initial head count for those with dires that wish to travel to Vien and make it their new home. While staying with your pack, joining one, or coming along in general is encouraged, it is not required. Anyone that wants to participate in this plot, please post your pairs arriving to join Naviki and Alsvior in this thread so I can get a rough headcount of how many participants to expect please! You have until Saturday, March 3rd to get your pairs in this volunteer thread (though if you miss it you can certainly join later and pretend you've been here the whole time) Edited by Nherva, Feb 16 2018, 12:50 PM.

It was a lovely morning the fact Aesop had a pit in his hand as he was sitting on Lyall did much to improve that morning atmosphere. They both had seen the message, and while he didn’t care where they slept thought that this was something that they should help with. It was for that reason that they were up this earlier in the morning and ride to the meeting spot. Grabbing a scruff of her hair and giving her a good scratch behind the ear as they moved along. He could feel her anticipation it was in her every step, she wanted to do this and if he needed any more confirmation the warmth that was radiation from her. It brought a smile to his face as he felt that, if this was something that she wanted this much then he was glad that he had packed for a long haul. It was one of the reasons she was sprinting to the meeting area, as much as she wanted to be there, he was making sure she did try to burn herself. As far as he was able to find out this area that they were to reclaim had been abandoned for at least a year, which was a long time. Time enough for someone or something else to move in and claim it for themselves. So while Lyall was more focused on taking back her home, the idea that there might be some spring cleaning before it was time to make the bed. Draining the last of his drink as they made their way closer to the area clipping the tankard to a hook on his saddle. If they were to keep up this pace then they would arrive within an hour or so, but then she stopped. Her ear alert and moving it was as if she was listening to something, so he played attention trying to see what she heard on the wind. He could hear something barely, a noise on the wind perhaps but there was nothing around them he was sure of that. He started to move his hand lower to one of the daggers that he kept on his person when Lyall took off as high speed. It was so sudden that he almost lost his grip. The tore through the undergrowth, he was dodging trees as she ran. Well, whatever heard was important it seemed to so he fixed himself in his saddle, pulling his body low. It took them thirty minutes to close in on the sound where Aesop was able to hear and another ten after that to arrive in the clearing. She screeched to a halt as they broke through the tree line, into the clear. It seemed that they were late to the party, for the group leaders were already there. He even recognize the rider and her pair, he had seen the get the rank for the MP after all. Stepping off Lyall to look at everyone gather in the clearing before taking out a knife to clear his nails. Adjusting his hood and face mask as they had been mess up by the speed at which Lyall had decided to move at, turning his attention to the group once he was covered. “So I guess you sent out a call then.” He could feel how much she wanted to talk with the other dires, but there was an order to these things. |

Sebastian wasn't often the one to be late, but he had had another duty to attend to before he was to arrive at the desginated spot. The summons to the shadowguard and subsquent meeting with the other pack leader had been enlightning but the orders had been given. Giving his saddles one last check over, he moved along, walking along his dire. The howl had echoed off and about, and both recognized the call with ease. Having sent out his message along to his pack-members, he made his lone way there. They would come when they would come, and if they chose to stay behind--he would not fault them for it. It wasn't as if they were being kicked out, but he could see the need to move out. The city had been left alone for the most part for so long after the war that they were going to retake it back. The pack wasn't being disbanded--it was simply moving. Of course, It wasn't going to be easy. Nothing ever was, even if it looked easy on paper. But he had agreed; and even when they did retake the city; he didn't have to permanently stay there--just until everything had be rebuilt and repopulated. The city here would have enough protection from the military police; not that the people were entirely happy about it, but then....he shook his head from those thoughts. There was a more important matter to attend to here, and he would rise to the occasion as he had tried--(Of course, how he became a pack leader, he wasn't entirely sure, but the higher ups had obviously seen something in him so best not to disappoint). With one last look at the tall spiraling towers, he sighed. He would miss having a nice warm bed to sleep on and at least a garunteed meal three times a day. But he would do as he was bade. With a click, he moved effortlessly through the field, both dire and dire-handler serious. While they were already in hard times, it was about to get harder and the trek north wasn't going to be fun. While Rinalias could handle cold weather without much difficulty, didn't mean she was used to it. Sundashers far more preferred to be north while moonrunners preferred the heat, while Duskstriders were far more utilitarian. Not that that was always the case, Dires went were they were needed, and they always packed accordingly. The sun softly shone down, the silver streaks shining through rins fur, and Sebastian wondered if she was gaining more silver to her fur--often it looked like her darker saddles were lightening up. But then, perhaps it was just his mind worrying. It didn't take long for them to find the other pair, and already there was one other. Another dire-handler he didn't recognize, but that didn't matter. The only wish was that he could have at least ate in the great hall for breakfast but he pushed it aside as he stood to greet them. Rin stood silently beside Sebastain, a small chuff of greeting to the other, as they stood and waited. Much like the crimson eclipse alpha pair, they were geared up and ready for a harsh travel and potentially harsher land in the north. Whether or not rin was tired was hard to point as she was focused and ready to get going. |

Naviki knew that moving from a home one had always known to a new one wouldn't be easy for many. She also expect that for that reason, many would choose to stay behind. However, she hoped they'd get enough support to at least help them re-take and rebuild the fortress. None of them knew what awaited them up there. As she looked over the handful of handlers standing before her now, she worried that they might not even last the trip up north. There were so few... Alsvior wuffled and bumped her shoulder lightly into her bonded. They were dires. They were strong, hardy, fast, deadly. They could face whatever came. A memory of that horrid night in the jungle flashed across Naviki's memory. She shuddered, recalling those horrifying things that tried to burrow under her skin and eat her alive. Even her moonrunner had almost been swallowed whole. When the trickle of riders ceased for several minutes and there were no others on the horizon or otherwise making themselves known to Alsvior, Naviki sighed and cleared her throat. "Welcome to the dawn of a new era I suppose. I'm sure all of you got my letter or you wouldn't be here." She started to pace to keep herself from shaking. Public speeches had never been terribly easy for her, but she managed. Now that she was an alpha, she really needed to keep her cool in front of others. Naviki nodded respectfully toward Sebastian, then continued, "The road ahead will not be easy, but I have every confidence that we can see it through to the end. The Shadowguarde assured me that the Academy has no dragons to spare us...and the Empress believes we have every capability to do this on our own. I happen to agree with her." She smiled, hoping to instill confidence in those that had gathered. "The north will become the sole responsibility of the dires and their handlers. We will be able to keep our own rules and our own jurisdictions even if we ultimately answer to Sekkai. No one knows what state Vien is in after all these years. It could be empty, it could be the lair of some monstrous Taint," she shrugged, "Either way, we will have to deal with it, and we will be on our own. So this is your chance. If you don't wish to leave the safety and security of the Academy, this is your time to turn back from us now." She paused to allow that to sink in. "No one will think ill of you, nor will you be shunned by those of us that leave. However, for those of you that agree with the rulings of our superiors, and with myself and Alsvior and our pack--I will not speak for Sebastian, as he is here to do so himself--we will forge forward into the unknown and we will do what dires do best." She looked up at them with determined finality in her eyes, "We will hunt." Alsvior turned her nose to the sky and howled. |

NPC Slohet and Duskstrider Hijane They were always late. Why was it that they were always late? In most people, that thought might have been exasperated, even panicked. In Slohet, it was an amused observance, one that he made nearly every day. It was a refrain that he'd heard all his life, and he'd turned it from an accusation (from his parents, his lovers, his teachers) into almost a mantra. After a lifetime, it felt strange when he managed to make it anywhere on time. Today was not that day, though. Hijane, on the large end for his type of wolf, lumbered under him. Like his rider, the Duskstrider was in no hurry. Despite his slow gait, his long legs ate distance faster than any human's could have. His fur, far heavier than any Moonrunner's, but not as dense as a Sundasher's, kept him warm in the winter afternoon. Slohet was dressed for the weather, kept warm partially by fabric and fur, and partially by the walking space heater he was riding. The woman--vaguely familiar to Slohet--had already begun talking when Hijane loped up to the scarce group. What were they doing here? This sort of thing would require work, determination, energy. Not things Slohet was known for. Still, they'd been at the Academy too long without doing anything. They'd done their part in the war--followed orders--but things had been quiet. Too quiet. For a man (and wolf) who liked nothing better than to laze about, quiet should be the best thing they could have. Both were restless. Uneasy. Waiting. And then Iyalruek had fallen. And everything had made sense again. War had returned to Sekkai. Lazy as they might be, Hijane and Slohet had been raised in war, and peace just didn't sit well with them. Slohet only half paid attention to the woman's speech, but Hijane's heavy tail swished in the chill air as she spoke. Slohet knew what he was pleased about, and it drew a wry smile to the rider's mouth. For whatever reason, Hijane had always been deferential to female wolves, and Slohet knew he was happy that the one that seemed to be in charge of this operation was female. That she was a Moonrunner and perhaps half his size meant nothing, only that she was female. Hijane was never comfortable following the orders of a male, and every Pack they'd ever belonged to had been led by a female wolf, and preferably a female rider. Hijane could let Slohet take orders from a male, but not himself. His leader must be female. It was an oddity that went along with the raised main of fur that ran down his neck and between his shoulders and his golden fur, replete with dark spots. He was the strangest looking Dire Slohet had ever seen, but he was a good wolf. When the Moonrunner that stood with the speaker lifted her head in a howl, HIjane's deeper voice joined hers, one of the most active agreements to anything that Slohet had ever heard him voice. If nothing else, this trip would be interesting. Edited by Mythborn, Mar 6 2018, 09:58 PM.
