thank the team of Paradise for influencing this section, their rules are solid and well written and we have used their general structure and extracts until we can fully develop our own. Abbreviations for common terms used on the server. RP: Roleplay - To take up a character and act like they would, performing out their emotions, feelings, characteristics and actions. IC: In Character - When you are Roleplaying and are in your character. OOC: Out of Character - This has two applications within the server. Something done outside of your character, this may be a list of things but all boil down to things that would not been done while In Character. To use the server wide OOC chat, where you may talk OOCly with other players about various things. LOOC: Local Out of Character - Only the people near your character will see this out of character text. Deadchat: A special chat for observers/ghosts who've died in game. People are free to discuss current round information in this chat, and it is considered to be another form of OOC. SSD: Sudden Sleep Disorder - When a player disconnects or loses connection, his character will fall over and begin to sleep. This phenomenon is referred to as going ‘SSD.’ Antag: Antagonist - A player that has gotten an antagonist role, designed to add some chaos to the round to make things fun. Valid: Mostly referring to Antagonists that are able to be killed by other players under any context. Certain Antagonists (Nuke ops, Wizard, Blob, Xenos, Terror Spiders) are all considered valid, while others (Traitor, Changeling, Cult, Shadowlings) are not. Cluwnes are always valid under any and all circumstances. Murderboning: Excessive Killing - A player who excessively kills everyone in his path not because he has to but rather he wants to do so. Self Antaging: Antagonizing without being an Antag - Self Antaging refers to players who decide to do actions that normally only a Antagonist would do, i.e; Murdering other players, heavily damaging the station or causing chaos on a mass scale. General Disclaimer: Shardstation is not a public utility, it is a private server ran by a team of volunteers who do this because they enjoy SS13 and want to contribute to making it all work. The Server Staff reserves the right to punish anyone they believe is detrimental to the server and its community. Even if no Rules are broken. These rules will primarily act as a guideline for staff and members to follow and interpret on a situational basis, not as an immovable absolute. Rules that apply to here also apply to the Discord. RULES AND CONDUCT: General Conduct: Don't be a dick. Really that's what all of these boil down to. In the end, just don't be a dick and you likely won't have to deal with any repercussions of being a dick. If you don't know what would constitute such behavior, then chances are you shouldn't be here anyway. 1.) Conduct: Personal attacks on any member for any reason are not okay. It doesn't matter how much they aggravated you, if they started it, or anything. Just leave it to the mods and admins to deal with. Responding in kind to such insults and actions will only put you both at risk of punishment, and can drag others in. Be the bigger adult and just ignore it. OOC harassment of other players will be punished harshly, however IC harassment (including in universe racism such as calling Tajara 'catbeasts' is tolerated, so long as it isnt used as justifcation for murder and whatnot. Remember you are a vetted employee of a large corporation, not the Imperium of Man). Admins will not ban any words, references or topics of discussion that may cause offense simply because they exist, however we expect a common sense approach to such things, such as limiting excessive profanity and constant use of ethnic, religious or Homophobic slurs with the intent to cause offense. 2.) Listen to the Staff: Server Staff are the final authority on matters here. If you are told to stop doing something, please oblige our requests. If you are banned for any reason, please submit an appeal. If you feel you are being treated unfairly, submit a complaint. Above all, follow these rules and we shouldn't have to bother you at all. If you are ever suffering doubt about anything that may cross into rulebreaking territory, please submit an ahelp. 3.) Roleplaying Standards: ShardStation is a Medium Roleplaying Server. We enforce roleplaying standards but do not expect complete immersion into the game. I.e. we wont ban you for not emoting the immense feelings of depression your SSL has as she ponders committing ERP in the dorms. On this server we do restrict knowledge of certain antagonists. However the more obvious types which Nanotrasen would train it's crew to identify in such a scenario would be recognized by the average crewmember, for example: Blobs, Members of the Wizard Federation, Syndicate Nuclear teams and Vox Raiders. However less understood and infrequent threats such as Changelings, Vampires and Cults would not be given out to all members with exception to certain Security/Command Staff (HoS, Captain, Warden). Furthermore we do enforce Clone Memory Disorder, if you are cloned/revived you should not be able to fully describe the manner of your passing or even that you passed at all, as your damaged brain would only give fragmented information or if you were DNA scanned, you wouldnt remember anything beyond the time of the scan. People who use cloning/revival to metagame will be punished. Alert Levels: The various alert levels on the station should always be applied appropriately by the Command Staff. Green Alert is the default and most ideal state, Blue Alert will most likely be the most common alert status, Red Alert however should not be applied lightly, it should be reserved for when station integrity is threatened and large casualties are expected and should be revoked once the threat is passed. We want to air an attitude of IC issues = Dealt with IC. Admins wont interfere with your roleplay or do sec's job for them from the verb panel. We want to give players the tools to actually handle the environment they are in, not create a nanny-state. Unless the rules are blatantly being broken it wont warrant a bus stop. 4.) SSD & Frozen Players: SSD Players are players that have disconnected from the game. Examining them will reveal that “They have suddenly fallen asleep!”, or clicking on them with Help Intent selected, which will outright tell you they are SSD. People under the influence of 'Sudden Sleep Disorder' may never be interacted with except to pull them to Cryodorms and place them in a Cryosleeper, to provide medical care to SSD players, such as medication or surgery, or to remove them from danger. Similarly, players frozen by admins will be identified by the tag that appears over their sprite. These players are not to be interacted with at all as they are currently interacting with an admin, if they need medical attention or to be moved we will take care of it. 5.) No IC in OOC or vice versa: The following behaviors are prohibited on ShardStation: Metagaming: Providing OOC information to people IC or gaining this knowledge with the intent to use it to disrupt the round or powergame. Using multiple accounts for yourself during a round (Multikeying) is not allowed. Simply having multiple accounts, by itself, is permitted - but we require you to inform us so we can add a note that these accounts are both yours. 6.)roles and you: If you pick a job to join the round as, or start off as, you will be expected to play this role. For instance if you are Head of Security your job will be to manage the department, not hunt down changelings alone in maint. Or if you are a doctor you should stay in medbay and tend to the many casualties that accumulate over the course of the round instead of getting drunk in the bar. This bit is more of a guideline than a solid rule. Choosing a Head of Staff or Synthetic role will put yourself under greater scrutiny, as these roles can have substantial effects on the course of the round and as such will be expected to meet a high standard of roleplay, job knowledge and competence. If you have to leave the round as a head, please inform us via Ahelp and ensure that someone is set to take up the role after you, leaving all role-specific equipment back in your office and then heading to cryo. Leaving suddenly or spending the whole round inactive or in the bar may warrant a job ban. However if leaving is not within your control simply submit an appeal and we will correct it. Additionally. If you are a synthetic or AI role. You must comply with your lawset. Common sense is to be used with all default Lawsets – they have been installed by NT for the protection of the station and their interests. Rules Lawyering Lawsets in order to antagonize the crew is not allowed. As the AI, you may not ask for Law changes, attempt to force the crew to change your Laws, or prevent the Command staff from changing your Laws, unless you are an Antagonist, subverted, or your Laws require it. If you suspect a Law change to be grief, Adminhelp it, so it can be looked into, before you act on the new Law. 7.) Antagonists and you: Antagonists are first and foremost there to add some element of fun to the round, for everyone, not just for the antagonist. An effort should be made to contribute to the round as opposed to just causing chaos and grief (unless of course you are a wizard). As an antagonist you are set against the station and it's crew, however for the most part we dont want you going around needlessly killing everyone as if it were a team-deathmatch. However this being said you are free to defend yourself against threats (i.e. security, vigilantes, mobs of validhunting assistants and the AI) using any means available to you. You are also allowed to prosecute your objectives as you see fit, so long as you remember the first part of this section. Releasing the Singularity or the Tesla, tampering with Atmospherics, large scale destruction, or any other action that directly warrants a Shuttle Call, is reserved for those who have the "Hijack the Shuttle" Antagonist objective, or are a round-ending Antagonist by default, or if you are granted permission by staff via ahelp. If you are not willing to act as an Antagonist, or if you have to leave the round midway, Adminhelp so someone else can fill your role. Furthermore, Lone Antagonists are not required to work together and may freely engage each other or work together, however team antagonists are expected to work together and may not fight each other without good reason. Antagonists may not spawn camp the Arrivals Shuttle, or the immediate area, for late arrival victims 8.) Self-Antagging: Self-antagging by it's nature is subjective based on opinion and highly situational. However if staff tell you to stop doing something, you must immediately comply. Failure to comply will be met with administrative action. If you require further enlightenment on what does and does not constitute self-antagging, please do ask the staff. We at Shardstation take a liberal approach to self-antagging. I.e. We will not bwoink you for beating someone up and will let security handle you. However as pointed out this is subject to the situation at hand. So if you were to immediately resume attacking people upon release you would be considered self antagging. Criminal activity is allowed by non-antags on such a basis. Minor activity is fine, so are most medium crimes, however the committing of serious offenses should be preceded by an ahelp before committing. This includes raiding the armoury or stealing high risk items such as the hand teleporter, captain's spare ID or station blueprints, etc, etc. Doing so without giving us a heads up may warrant punishment. Murder however is generally unacceptable as a non-antag. For clarification: Toolboxing someone with the intent to kill them is murder, assaulting someone and having them bleed out on the way to medbay is generally not considered self-antagging but is considered manslaughter ICly. Furthermore, attacking someone with a lethal weapon outside of self defense constitutes attempted murder. Self-defense is allowed to the extent of saving your own life. Putting someone into Critical Condition is considered self-defense only if they attempted to severely hurt/kill you. Preemptively disabling someone, responding with disproportionate force, or hitting someone while they are already down, is not self-defense. Clown and Mime: These are not licenses to grief, these are legitimate entertainers and should be played to the enjoyment of everyone, not only to the enjoyment of the player. 9.): Validhunting: Validhunting is considered to be any action taken by non-security staff to go out of their way and their jobs to hunt down and murder antagonists. We strongly discourage this, as it is the role of the security staff to handle antagonists. You may for instance, defend yourself or others from an antag if your are witness to their attack. But you may not hunt them down or pursue them outside of situational circumstances. The only exception to this are antagonists that have objectives to destroy the station, such as nuclear operatives, wizards or blobs. Whom you may freely surround and beat to death with toolboxes, before absconding with their robes/redsuits. Evidence of Antagonist activity is required before you take steps to treat anyone as an Antagonist. For example, you may not force random people to drink holy water or randomly drag people into the Chapel 10.) Adult Content: Admins dont want to see your ERP in the logs. Any content that may be considered sexual or adult in nature is not to be touched upon. At all. This includes borderline stuff. We may have players under the age of 18, please be considerate of them. Innuendos and adult jokes are permitted, however any links to NSFW sources are prohibited. Edited by Devee, Feb 24 2018, 12:21 AM.
