Would 5 years of training be enough for Yamcha to surpass Goku? (Assuming 23rd TB Yamcha is still weaker.)

I don't see why not, though it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't. It didn't seem like anybody got any big gains in the 5 year gap IMO. Seems like Goku just did maintenance training due to being busy starting a family and everybody else just scaled with him.

Well if we assume 416 and 408 are actually Goku and Piccolo's max, then the other Earthlings really closed the gap between them and Goku/Piccolo, especially Tenshinhan being over half of Goku and Piccolo and Krillin/Yamcha being over 1/3rd of Goku and Piccolo. Roshi also got a god-like increase from the 22nd somehow.

(I don't think much thought was put behind the BoZ numbers, but still, the BoZ numbers/gaps should still be taken as fact since they're explicitly stated.)

Since those were some of the first numbers Toriyama invented you could argue that he hadn't figured out gaps and stuff yet. Roshi being that high compared to everybody else is very suspicious as you pointed out.

Still it's possible Goku didn't improve due to his family, Piccolo didn't improve because he was too busy inventing the Makankosappo, and everybody else used the opportunity to catch up. Fukkatsu no F could be evidence that Roshi might've never have stopped training too.

Not sure the scouter number gaps makes it pretty hard to determine how much the characters improved and we know Yamcha is a pretty lazy trainer unless it's for a tournament or to stop a threat to the Earth.......I'll just go ahead and say Yamcha since I don't believe he was that much under King Piccolo at the 23rd.

Roshi also got a god-like increase from the 22nd somehow.

I made Roshi 13,9 and Bulma misread it as 139. This makes way more sense than giving a retired fighter
godly gains.

Do you think Goku is the kind of guy to settle with banging a pussy and doing mantainance training? In the end
of 23rd TB, he clearly stated he was going to train hard to surpass Piccolo's training gains.
