Well not literally one-sided but, you didn't really get put out of your comfort zone while fighting an opponent I propose this for the following sakes 1) If you kept your level head and knew how to approach your opponent well enough that they couldn't really do anything to you, then you were already skilled enough for that battle. You didn't acquire anything new since you didn't get put on your toes or anything. Your current experience sufficed. 2) Those who suffer the humiliation of defeat get to see their errors first hand and hold on to them. Failure is an powerful lesson. Thus, getting the weaknesses in your technique exposed is just what makes a better.. anything. 3) The idea of winners that always keep winning is kinda.. it's a trash story premise. People at the top shouldn't stay there. And say, a chuunin testing themself against a genin is nothing compared to comparing themself against another chuunin, in which, the battle would on average be a back-and-forth. Same goes for anyone who fights with the battle experience of someone who's battle hardened. Split-second/advanced observations, first-try perfect counters. 4) In Naruto battles, becoming smarter about how you fight is really the token of progression. Not stats or jutsu, or how many books you read. Being pressed by your opponent to figuring out an effective counter attack is where the battle climax comes in. Makes it worth it. 5) It's just nice to see the characters get smarter too, not only stronger. So this rewards that, and punishes those who battle like they have the answers already.
