I looked upon the scene before me - upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain - upon the bleak walls upon the vacant eye-like windows - upon a few rank sedges - and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees - with an utter depression of the soul, which I can compare to no earthly sensation… - Edgar Allan Poe * There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy - William Shakespeare * No Man chooses evil because it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he seeks. - Mary Wollstonecraft * Tell me the news, again, whatever it is... sorrow and I are hardly strangers. I can bear the worst. ― Sophocles

What you may know about Turin

So, Turin is not your usual city, its history not a common one... how much would your character know? It may vary greatly, depending on their age, interests, connections etc. When you submit your application, we'll have a chance to discuss what you specifically know, but here's some general guidance:

My Code Name Is Jon Snow - Maybe you're very young, come from another country, have no interest in legends, nor bothered asking details from more informed contacts before moving to Turin... You just knew somewhere is hiring for a good night job, or you are looking for someone that you suspect might be in the vicinity, maybe you just liked the city. As far as you know, Turin is a perfectly normal place; you're a bit surprised nobody has already claimed Praxis, but perhaps it is better that way.

It's Not True, but I Believe It - You care little about old legends, maybe you think they're BS or exaggerations, but at least you know what people have said about the place. So, you know that Turin is an abandoned Domain, where Kindred may come and go but where nobody holds power. By asking the reasons of such an unusual situation, you probably discovered how all the Kindred of Turin disappeared at around 1850. You may like to think they all died in some especially gruesome battle, but whether you believe it or not, you have heard they disappeared in more mysterious circumstances. You know that travelers talk of strange visions and prophecies, although you don't know the details. You are aware that the city has a reputation for being a cursed land. People may go there for various reasons, but nobody is in a rush to claim it.

Historian - You know the legends and you know more than that. You are well informed on the events surrounding 1850 - that the Sabbat was destroyed during battle, vanishing utterly. No survivors were found. You know that other Kindred began disappearing shortly afterwards. You know that those who managed to escape the city were found to be amnesiac or insane; the few who could recollect what they had seen, with any sort of lucidity, were still unable to offer any clear explanation. They talked about locations whose appearances did not match reality; of people who literally disappeared before their eyes; of some ritual that might have been performed, although they know little more. You know things have been quiet since around 1945, but that a new insurgence of visions and disappearances was reported following 1999. You suspect that relics of the old Domain must be still around, if they have not been destroyed yet.

Lore Master - You have some specific interest in Turin, the Occult, or both. You know the city has been linked with magic and occultism for centuries. You have heard of the Caves of Alchemy, and have reason to think they are not only a legend. You know that Piazza Statuto has been linked to dark magic, and misfortune, and is known for being where visions are more common. The areas close to Piazza Castello, traditionally connected to White Magic, have been found to be uncomfortable for vampires with supernatural flaws. You know a Chantry is lost within the city limits; it could be a precious resource of books and scrolls that the Tremere were forced to leave behind. Good luck finding it. As for the visions people have had, some appear to be a distortion of reality (those familiar with the Astral Plane say they even share similarities), but some are wilder, unexpected and at times dangerous. Supernatural phenomena are more common in Turin than anywhere else. Ghosts, for instance, seem to haunt the city at unusually high numbers. People with prophetic abilities found that their powers were enhanced by the local energies; a Malkavian prophet wrote their notes in scrawls, but others used a wide variety of media. Such people may be willing to talk, if you the have chance to meet them. Although details are scarce regarding such prophecies, you may know that some seem to show the end of the world, even if they are not all consistent with the established lore.

This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places and events are either the product of imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual people or events is purely coincidental.
