I looked upon the scene before me - upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain - upon the bleak walls upon the vacant eye-like windows - upon a few rank sedges - and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees - with an utter depression of the soul, which I can compare to no earthly sensation… - Edgar Allan Poe * There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy - William Shakespeare * No Man chooses evil because it is evil; he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he seeks. - Mary Wollstonecraft * Tell me the news, again, whatever it is... sorrow and I are hardly strangers. I can bear the worst. ― Sophocles

Ethics of the Path

Followers of this Path give themselves over to various demonic lords, believing their role is that of servant to a greater evil. Demons and infernal entities are greater harbingers of the corruption that vampires spread. All Corrupters have bartered their souls, and claim one or more infernal "patrons," spreading the specific brand of vitriol espoused by them. In exchange for their absolute servitude, and the sacrifice of their own souls (and the souls of their victims), followers are given great powers, and a place in the infernal hierarchy. With such enticements, the Corrupter spreads his own brand of poison among his associates, seeking to turn other vampires to his cause, hoping to be raised above the other vampires — whom they believe will one day be brought to heel by the infernal lords.

Followers are happy to evangelize for their Master and set moral traps into which others may fall, for they must convince other vampires of the rightness of their cause. Vampires are evil. Accept that. Ensure that others who do not accept it are tortured and enlightened, coerced or compelled. Fight against vampires who would strive for some semblance of honor or goodness. They're misguided. Kill those who still refuse. Those who serve “God” or “goodness” or other foolishness are to be destroyed. They are distractions. Use duplicity and prey upon their weakness.

Corrupters move quietly in many circles, subtly spreading the influence of their masters and arranging the downfall of Elders who stand against them. Never revealing their true motives. Others can't work against you if they don't know the end toward which you work. You're the servant of greater evil powers, embrace it as a tool for outer darkness. Serve well, and you'll be elevated in position. The lure of power without responsibility to any sort of conscience is a tempting one for many vampires or humans. It's acceptable to engage in intrigues with the servants of other demons, but your loyalty to your lord -- and to his other retainers -- must be absolute.

Most followers involve themselves in secret debased rituals in which they make sacrifices to their dark lords. Although human sacrifice is common, it's by no means universal. The importance lies in the symbolism of the sacrifice itself; so human sacrifice is really the sacrifice of community, morality, and free will. Reject humanity. A vampire has transcended and belongs to the night. Use the Beast as a tool to spread your evil, but be ready to place your masters' desires above your own.

The "typical" Corrupter is intelligent, charismatic, and relentlessly immoral. They can be found among the most depraved aspects of society, and are fond of using pawns and intermediaries, especially ill-informed dupes. They use their charm and cleverness to bring less talented (and competitive), but still useful minions into the fold. Often, a Corrupter leads a "double unlife" in which he acts as an unassuming but loyal member of a vampiric sect, while keeping his private affairs carefully concealed.

Path of Evil Revelations
ScoreMoral Guideline
10Maintaining any semblance of goodness or honor that is not feigned.
9Missing a nightly devotion.
8Helping others when not to your advantage.
7Passing up an opportunity to acquire temporal power or wealth.
6Following your own interests. The master's will is more important than your own.
5Not working with other followers of your master.
4Failing to take an opportunity to fulfill your master's goals.
3Providing infernal secrets to non-converts.
2Failing to corrupt or destroy other vampires.
1Disobeying your infernal master.

Note: As the player, you must research the most appropriate Infernal Lord for your character. There are several, and the one you select will affect the goals your character may have.
