"Crowded... too crowded." Kei thought. The girl, situated on the emergency staircase of one of the buildings, silently observed the crowds of people gathering in the dimly lit streets of the alleyways down below. Teenagers and adults alike excitedly chattered amongst themselves about the launch of Mumei, the new virtual reality game that took the city by storm. A frown appeared on her face as she glanced at one of the many promotional fliers of the said game plastered on the brick walls. Kei didn't understand the appeal of it all to be honest. Sure she plays her fair share of video games but most, if not all, were just one player games. She liked it that way, not having to rely on anyone but herself. Hell, that's how she lived. But this isn't just a simple game. No. The girl knew it was much more than that hence her presence in the first place. So she sat there, waiting for the players to arrive. "It's almost time anyways." Kei mumbled as she took a drag from her newly lit cigarette. |

Hana sighed, she had just gotten out of work and was exhausted. She rubbed the back of her neck as she made her way trough the crowd of people. Bumping into a few as she went along. Hana mumbled to herself as she made her way into the alleyways. Hana pressed herself against the wall. She sighed and she dug around in her pocket and found a pack of cigarettes and bit one and put the rest away. She flicked her lighter over and over before angerly shoving it back into her pocket. "Just my damn luck." She sighed taking the cigarette out of her mouth and groaned as she filled it around in her hand. |

Megumi gave a quiet sigh as she raised her head from where she'd been so absorbed in her handheld game, narrowly avoiding a bunch of rowdy boys who hadn't been looking where they'd been going. It was a deadly situation, bumping into guys like that. All big mouths and big jokes that Megumi didn't really understand. How lucky for her. Or it would be lucky if Megumi really liked talking to people. Just unreadable discomfort. Unreadable tones and unreadable faces. She slipped into the alleyway, ducking her head and pressing her small frame against the brick wall, sliding down until her bum hit the floor and her hair pooled around her shoulders. The plan was to hide away here until the crowd dwindled, and that would probably take a while. The handheld game clicked under her fingertips, gaze trained on the flickering of graphics. |

How chaotic, that was truly the only way Kiku could think to describe the thick crowd of people gathered in the alleys. A Mumei event was about to start, the second promotional event this week, sure to drag in more and more players. Unfortunate, that she'd already discovered the game was not as it seemed. She caught sight of Kei, her sister, perched above and shared a look with the twin. They knew what was going to happen. They were ready for it. Kiku looked down at her phone, the app for Mumei open and displaying a countdown. 5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1.... And in that second, with a wave of dizziness, the world shifted and swayed, melting into a deep blue, the color filling every inch of her vision until it slowly bled back out, revealing what at first glance, appeared to be exactly the same place. Except now the alley was empty, save for herself, her sister and to her surprise, several other strangers. Not to mention the frankly eerie blue shade that seemed to coat everything around them, and a nearby building flickering for a second to reveal what looked a little too much like a video game glitch to be comfortable. It was time. And this time they weren't alone. Kiku just prayed no-one would get killed. |

A wave of dizziness hit Hana hard. She put her hand on her head and groaned. Everything around her warped. The woman wobbled on her feet, she looked around and rubbed her eyes. Nothing changed, the world was blue and strange. "Come on I wasn't even drinking yet." Hana huffed. She looked around at the other people around her. She crossed her arms and sighed pulling out her lighter once again and despairingly trying to like her cigarette. It seems like she was remaining fairly calm but she was gnawing on the but of the cigarette. |

Kei saw her twin weaving through the crowds of people below her. They locked eyes for a second. She knew what it meant. No words needed to be said. She took one last drag of her cigarette and flicked it away. It's time. Her phone began to make a loud, unnatural sound as if it was counting something down. She closed her eyes as it happened, reopening them a few seconds after the beeping stopped. The sight of a deserted alley greeted her, well, save for a few handful of people. But definitely not the same crowd as before. You would think that Kei would be surprised. But no. This was nothing new to her. Kei stood up and put her hands on the railing, keeping her eyes on the two girls that remained. It was hard to see from where she was, but she noticed the glinting red watches on their wrists. The girl looked down on her own wrist with the same red watch. This was no mere fashion coincidence, of course. She hadn't been wearing it before. It was something that appeared when the world shifted around them. Its purpose was something only Kei and Kiku had knowledge of. Until now at least. Something else caught her eye. She turned her head to look at it. Kei's eyes narrowed. She didn't expect them to arrive so soon. It's like they materialized themselves from the shadows. 4 blob like creatures with blue masks for faces appeared in front of the two girls. Without giving any warning, it lunged at the smaller one of the two and swiped at her, its oozy black hand catching her on the leg. It's most likely gonna result in a large cut or a huge bruise if she was lucky. Welp, looks like they're gonna have to learn the purpose of the watch quickly if they want to survive this. Kei figured she should probably help them. But where was the fun in that. Besides, if they were chosen, they should be able to handle their own right? Edited by Himura Kei, Mar 24 2018, 03:20 AM.

The blue-haired teen blinked as the world outside her handheld lit up with bright blue, and she raised her gaze to observe it. The alleyway around her looked almost sickly with the shades of cobalt glinting in the sun, and the air felt a bit too light, sharp, crisp. Turning her head to the side, she noticed immediately the absence of people. ...Where was everyone? She hadn't been gaming that long, had she? Standing, she noticed a soft weight around her wrist, not having remembered putting on the thin little red band covering the skin joining arm and hand. What was it? And why wouldn't it come off? A screech tore from her throat as a hand suddenly wrapped around her ankle and tugged, sending both her and her handheld dropping back down to the floor. It stung, and the handheld smashed on impact, but Megumi relentlessly kicked the creepy blob's gross mask with the heel of her boots. "H-hey! Let go! Let go, you creep!" |

After a moment of flicking her lighter lit up and she lit the cigarette in her mouth. She took a puff calming down at bit and turning to the others. "Hey-" She started to speak but the shadows forming stopped her. She watched as one of them lunched itself at the blue haired girl. Hana's eyes seemed to gloss over as she watched. Once the blob latched itself onto the other girl. Hana leaned foreword and looked like she was going to fall over but caught herself and ran at the thing. She threw her lighter at the thing with a decent amount of force but it just bounced off the mask and smacked the blue haired girl right in the face and it flew off of her face and hit the punk looking girl. Hana raised her leg high in the air and brought it down on the creature. It recoiled form the impact, Hana shot a death glare to the thing as she rushed over and yanked the blue haired girl a bit further away from the monsters. "I don't need this today. The amount of toilets I cleaned at work today." Hana grumbled to herself. |

Kiku watched with concern, torn between hanging back and helping survey the situation and rushing in to help. But no, she had to hold back. Had to wait and see. If any of them were to awaken here, it had to be on their own. They had to find the resolve to fight within themselves. She swiftly darted to her twin's side, grabbing the other Himura's shoulder half in greeting, half in an attempt to soothe the annoyance she could see building from getting hit with a rebounding lighter. "If anyone get's seriously hurt without Awakening, I'm stepping in" She mumbled, just low enough for Kei to hear. |
