Needed somewhere to stick this while not at home.. and so if any of you guys have any suggestions it can be posted here.

Game Approving Process

Create new entry for all four players in the game with the following columns

gameID
playerName
playersKills
playersDeaths
playersFlags
playersBonuses
playersKDR
playersMVPStatus (0 or 1, depending on if he MVP'd or not)
playersPartner
playersTeam (HOT or COLD)
gameScore

With that, when we view the player in the leaderboard we get the following

Highest Kill Game
Highest Death Game
Lowest Kill Game
Lowest Death Game
Total Kills
Total Deaths
Most Flags Game
Least Flags Game
Total Flags
Most Bonuses Game
Least Bonuses Game
Total Bonuses
Best KDR
Worst KDR
Total MVPs
Best Partner
Worst Partner
Best Side (HOT or COLD)
Highest Game Score
Lowest Game Score
Total Wins
Total Losses
Win Ratio

I think that's an awesome amount of data we will be able to track.

So the idea for the leaderboard is

Have a top 8 that is shown when you first go into the leaderboard. Based strictly off of Wins/Losses (Or EXP, whatever)

Have a drop down menu that is populated automatically with every MLS Player.
When player is selected it opens new window that displays all of the previously stated data and a list of every single game that person was in showing...

gameID
Win/Loss
gameScore
playersPartner
playersTeam
playersMVPStatus

And then you can click of any of the games and see the following screen...

Posted Image

So you can see a complete break down of the game.

I have a question on the MVP counter/statistic for the whole community.. Will the MVP ever be a player on the losing team? I mean, I know a lot of times we consider the MVP to be on the winning team, but if stats warrant it, I'd think if someone put forth a monstrous effort and still lost the game, they would still be considered mvp of that game.

Thoughts?

This been a controversial topic, because Stats don't have as much impact as people think. It's a teamwork-oriented game. Stats could be facilitated by your partner, which in essence is why we give MVP to the winning team because when it comes down to a Pro + Pro vs Pro + Pro, Teamwork is the defining characteristic that overall wins the game, which the winning team usually showed more of even if it was marginally more so than the losing team.

Right. That's why I was asking for opinion on the subject of MVP.. IMO, if we say mvp stats are facilitated by your partner, why have an MVP counter at all? Wouldn't both players on the winning team have put forth an "mvp" effort in that case, which is counted by the win column. Likewise, if we're going based purely on stats and you're the type of person who is facilitating your teammate's stats, then why not take the overall mvp based on stats from either the winning or losing team.

I guess my point is, why have an MVP at all if we're claiming it's all teamwork oriented?

I see what your getting at Trav, and actually my program currently gets the MVP from all 4 players, not just the winning team.

Currently doing it like this:

Player1MVPScore = 0
For Every Kill Add +1 To Player1MVPScore
For Every Bonus Add +3 To Player1MVPScore
For Every Flag Add +5 To Player1MVPScore
For Every Death -1 To Player1MVPScore

Thus we have that players MVPScore, after getting all 4, checks who has the highest and thus making them MVP.

Doesn't matter to me how we do it, I'm down for either way.

I think that is the way to go, Damein. I assumed you calculated it using those point values, but just wondered if it was for all 4 players or just the winning team. Thanks for clarifying.

Giving +5 for a flag seems pretty high since flagging overall is a team effort and it just boils down to whoever chooses to grab the flag first (not always)

I thought you were going to add a "Saves" stat to replace the "MVP Counter" on the new maps? That would be a great stat to implement into your program.

Can't judge mvp by flags. If both players decide to flag/safe and 1 teammate gets shotdoes that mean the remaining player/flagger is mvp?

Should be judged on

K/D/B.

Perhaps you can award teamwork by:
1. "Protected" Killing the opponent near your teammate.

2. "revenged kills" where you avenge your teammate within a time frame.

Ultimately, a flag is worth 15 points, while a kill is worth only 1, unless of course it's a bonus. So, the flag would be more valuable than someone killing an opponent.

I 100% get what you're both saying, but in the grand scheme of the game, you could have the best k/d ratio and lose because your didn't flag.

Rob I think you forgot... the league map you made, had bonuses higher in mvp points than flags, think it was 2 for flag, 3 for bonus, 1 for kill. Go check it if you don't believe me. The reason behind this is, bonus is more individualized, meaning it has more leverage on who should be mvp.

You could go through the entire game with most flags and least kills and still be mvp. Thats pretty bad.

If flagging is the most important aspect of this game then it should have its own category like "Most flagged or most points "

Having the most flags is still mvp material, you have to still position yourself so you can maximize opportunities to flag. It's still mvp worthy, you can also say the flagger has been giving decent visioning.

Yo tj. Can you post star line for each game for each player for the 6 games for mls champs season 1? We never really saw it and I think it may help with this decision for this season. Regardless though, I'd like 2 see it
