So Im the passenger in a car driving down the New Jersey turnpike. Im bored just staring out the window noticing the different rest stops. I notice that each time I see on the blue board theres a gas station with the name "Lukoil." Im sure you've seen their stations or heard of them but who are they? Facts: - Russian owned oil company - biggest Russian oil company - Bought out Getty oil - Along with Exxon Mobile the biggest supplier of oil to the United States - owns more oil then the Arabs do. Now maybe you saw on T.V. the handshake between George Bush and the President of Lukoil on live t.v. WHY? because Lukoil claimed 7/8th of all the Iraqi oil for a cheap price. Lets say the Russians strategically destroyed the arab oil wouldnt be depend on them for oil. Our national reserves would only last 5 months at the rate we are going... I think the Russians have power over us. |

We would just own them like we did before. Why? Because were fucking awesome. At any rate, if things did get that bad, we do have oil here, its just being protected. I think something could be done about that if it was every truly necessary. |

I doubt we'd be able to use the oil in Alaska without some environmentalist rebellion breaking out. But we do have the oil shale in the Four Corners and the oil in the Gulf of Mexico. |

The U.S. has the most potential oil, the largest store of usable oil, I think, and hydrogen batteries. The Russians are pretty much obsolete. |

No the USA only has enough oil to last for 6-7 months. Statistically at least. |

In reserve, What you don't understand from everyone elses post including mine, There is enough oil to last years, right below the United States. Environmentalist would rebel but it could be overran if it was ever truly necessary. |

Bumping this back. Even if we tap into Alaska, it would only last us up to 10 years at this years statistics. The only answer to this is finding a new source of energy to run our cars. But if you think about it, 50 years ago a man walked on the moon, so why cant we run a car on electricity? Because no car manufacturer will create a car that would run the gas companies out of business, they are linked and will be until they are ruled against it. |

Explain to me how the moon landing was fake when the next logical step in space exploration from there was to land on other planets, which we actually did, but only after going to the moon a few more times. Like Wray said, we have enough oil reserves and potential oil to last us for at least 10 years. In that time, we could easily finish up the development of hydrogen batteries and design cars to run on those instead of gasoline. And if the car companies try to do anything about that, the population can stop being a bunch of lazy fucks and put something on the ballot to require a change, rather than hoping somebody else will fix it. |

The technology is already out there to get cars going at a hundred or more miles per gallon. Engineers and auto mechanics have come up with engine add ons to get the most gas mileage possible, but gas distributors have payed millions of dollars buying out private designs, then locking it away 'till they feel it is the right time to release it. |

Sadly, if we wanted to put a man on the moon right now, we couldn't. The last rocket that could take us to the moon was destroyed or retired a while ago, and the plans to build it were also gone, as part of a spring cleanup by Nasa. |

Right now yeah, but it wouldn't take any more then a few years to re create plans for a new shuttle launch would it? Plus, there has to be some place where they keep all old documents and plans of everything that ever happened to them and by them on that launch pad in Florida. Who would they be to throw everything away? I guess what I am trying to say is, if the earth depended on it, they could pull it together. |
