Death

So what is yall's oppinions of death?

For instance, I believe in God, and I believe that I will go to heaven upon dying. However, what about those of you who don't?

Personally, death has never bothered me. Is anyone else extremely accepting of death or is it just me?

Now I'd like to give my view on the life/death relationship. Life was created in some form/manner, but that form/manner doesn't apply to this paragraph (I think). The purpose of life is to survive and produce offspring so that the species might live. So basically, life is the struggle between existance and non-existance. Religiously, if there is no life after death, then the idea of such would just be a human psychological tool to cope with our impending non-existance. Other species do not appear to be religious, so religion is obviously a human trait, true or not. Could religion be a tool created by man to counter-act our intelligence and self-awareness so that we don't just kill ourselves or go mad thinking about our impending non-existance? If you think about it, and there is no life after death, then there really is no point to living, and we may as well kill ourselves now, since we will not have any recollection of the life when dead. This would contradict the struggle between life and death in our minds because death would always win and we would give up on living and the species would die out. If you apply this to Darwin's theory of evolution, then upon mankind's acquisition of intelligence, those who were able to believe in life after death would have a reason to live and would continue the species, while those who did not would give up on life and would not continue the species. So is religion passed on through teaching or genetics? In other words, is religion an inherited trait or a learned trait?

Anyway, I'm gona stop there, I could probably go on, but it's way to much thinking haha. That long paragraph is just my thoughts on life after death. If you think I am contradicting myself by saying all that stuff, yet being religious, I"m not. I'm merely putting down thoughts. If there were life after death, then none of that stuff would be true, and I wouldn't have much to write about. Otherwise, post those comments people!

Let the arguements ensue!

Personally I don't believe there is any sort of life after death. How can somebody just say this and that and when you die you will go here. You have a brain which thinks, a body that moves. That is it. When you die, how do you "magically" release into another place. ie Heaven/Hell. or something of the sort. In common logic, it doesn't make any sense, especially when it was thought up by us. If theres a God, where is he?

I don't wanna get all technical thats just a lazy version ha.

Common human emotion says that there has to be an afterlife, otherwise the point of life is nulled.

I personally would very much like to believe that there is a sort of afterlife, but I'm too rational to do so with any conviction.

My ideal afterlife would allow me to revisit each point of my life and look at it from different perspectives, and to play out all of those "what-if" scenarios, to see what my life could have been like, had I made different decisions.

lemme ask you this..

if some crazed idiot goes around with an minigun and kill 600 people.. Is it destiny that killed those people or just coincidence..

religion is a learned trait..

i dont believe in those god/satan crap. That's good you believe in god but overdoing may lead to some problems...Remember the whole "God/Jesus/Satan" isnt about making you pray 24/7 and having 100,000% faith in the bible (bible is never correct anyways) and shit, rather it teaches you to become a good person and listen to your parents etc etc...

I only believe in resurrection after you die.

------------------------

is it wrong to question god existence? Those who don't have faith should be damned?

What about those who never heard of god before? Should they be sent to hell for not embracing a religion they never heard of?

----

blind faith something i rather not be part of. I need solid proof to believe that this "God" actually existed...

Hell i'm not gonna believe that god "Created the universe" and "made sun, moon, stars, planets.." that's just outrageous...

If any of you seen Stargate SG-1, you would know more about blind faith and shit..

The purpose you gave doesn't say anything about the necessity of recollection. If the purpose of life is to reproduce, and I don't know about you, but I don't need divine intervention to do that :P

I think there are enough sane athiests in the world to contradict the idea that a religion is necessary to the psyological well being of humans as well.

There is a song called "Thoughts of a Dying Atheist" by Muse... I always found it ironic :-p. I understand all of yall's thoughts though.

But hey, looks like we'll find out some day :) Unless, of course, there isn't anything after death, in which case we will not have a consciousness to find out with :P

Lol I own all 10 seasons on dvd XD

I used to have this theory that when you die you go into an everlasting dream because.. that's kind of what you do when you are unconscious.. you just don't wake up this time

So if you've lead a good life then your dream will be filled with everyday stuff.. stuff that probably pleases you.. but if your life was pretty fucked up and you've seen some nasty shit, chances are your dream will be tainted by that.

Meh I don't remember my theory anymore.. I made it when I was like 11 rofl

I believe after you die, nothing comes after. Your brain controls all of your thoughts, emotions, etc., so when your brain dies, you're done.

Some people believe, strangely that your soul will be brought to another baby inside a woman's womb after you die. That is probably why you hear in movies... 'I'll see you in the next life' I personally do not believe this nonsense. How could your soul 'if you have one' be magically sent into another person's/animal's body.. creating a new person and you forgetting everything about your past life. But then I think to myself. could it really be true that we all once had a life before our current life? In conclusion no one in this world knows what happens when you die. People die every 30 seconds on the planet. The only possible way of finding out what happens when you die is to just... die.

Very true, but I think that once your brain shuts off, you probably won't be thinking "Oh so this is what its like to die"

I want to believe that after death there is life again, whatever that life may be, however I am a bit skeptic.

But, I would rather believe and end up being wrong, then not believe and end up being right, as the consquences would be grave.

Whether or not there is life after death, we will all find out one day, and lets hope it's later then sooner.

Metaphysics is such a great field of philosophy; but anyways, I think there has to be something after death. We question metaphysical anomalies because no one has information with even the slightest fact. Death is meant to be unknown until we experience it; it's like life, what's the meaning of it? We don't know until we die.

Imagine if everything can be reduced to nothingness. That's what I fear the most.

Imagine if there is nothing after death, then there's nothing really to fear.

i believe that its not that there's nothing to fear if there is nothing after death, but the prospect of the end of your existence is no subtle thought. people fear that they do not have time to leave their mark, per say, and accept that they are specks of dust in the vast universe. the lack of time plays heavily on everybody.
