Death

Actually, I don't think you even look the same in heaven... I think we take on entirely new forms. So if you died as a baby, you would assume this new form.

I sometimes wonder if God would even give souls to those he knows will die before they are capable of accepting him in order to get to heaven. It wouldn't make sense to give a soul a life with the chance of going to heaven or hell, then not even letting it make the choice. If God can do anything, it would be perfectly logical that he could do this...

Wow i never really thought of it like that... and i am surprised that with all the technology these days that we have not found out what happens after death. But if it was ever determined what happens after death would you want to know? Personally i believe in reincarnation but i think more people would fear death if they knew the truth of what happens.

Stating it like that make it sounds like there is no point in living because its inevitable you'll die sooner or later.

that's like saying you live only to prepare to die

You do? It's just typical of humans to ignore the fact because it's not a happy one. That doesn't make it any less true.

those who rub this in everybody's faces just enjoy the satisfaction of being correct. why live for the dead? life may or may not be a one time thing, so why not ignore this?

I'd prefer that than to believe falsely that I'll be one of the few who made a real impact in the world when I die.

One of my favorite quotes is "Life is a sexually transmitted disease that is 100% fatal."

Since life and death are so intertwined (obviously), and humans are capable of such great understanding and imagination, I think it likely that death has had more of an impact on humanity than any other force (culture, technology, religion, so on and so forth)... What would life be like if we didn't die?

death is nonexistent? oh the possibilities! i see a downfall of society as we revert to animalistic instincts :)

Really huh? I think we'd be much more advanced... then again what would we do with all the people? And would you always be getting older looking? *shrug*

advanced? thats a possibility
but when there is no death, do people really care for anything anymore?

i left out the idea that although death would be abolished, suffering would not

Well if there were suffering, we would certainly be more advanced...

If there were no suffering then that would entail no need for food or water, so no need for jobs... we would probably be very sophisticated in math and astronomy like the Aztecs/Mayans/Incas (whichever one did that stuff)... and we would probably have good language and history... I doubt there would be much science at all.... and no idea about religion....

Obviously religion would be nonexistent, because Jesus (and everyone who lived when he was "blessing us" would still be around, and no one would believe in his divinity except in the slim chance that he actually was sent by God and could thus still perform miracles.

We'd be far more advanced in mathematics and science, and would probably have ended up destroying our planet by now. Think Gauss, Euler, Einstein, Archimedes, and more collaborating on ideas, and being able to do so forever, not for some 50-60 years.

Due to overpopulation (in the event that we had not colonized other worlds, which I'd doubt), birth would be regulated and most likely only the most intelligent men and women would be allowed to bear children. If we had colonized other planets, we would be spreading across the galaxy at an exponential rate.

This for the most part would be true in the event that there was no war, as well.

If there was war how would you win? You can't kill anyone haha... I guess you'd just have to "capture" the other soldiers until one side has none left...

I'm saying if humanity had a clue and stopped fighting each other, we could achieve similar ends.

I'm saying if humanity had a clue and stopped fighting each other, we could achieve similar ends.

even if death was nonexistent, this still would not be accomplished, mainly due to the fact that people are immature and refuse to collaborate with each other for an amazing array of reasons. also, people want compensation for what they do. the days of bright minds joining for the sake of reaserch (and not for money) are over.

I'm pretty sure you're being shortsighted. Eventually a plurality of people would get a clue, and probably establish a sort of utopia society somewhere. Without death, I doubt fighting would have even developed, and then it's very easy to work together to achieve goals beneficial for humanity.

Eventually society will reach this point, or kill ourselves. It will probably take the threat of the latter to ever attain the former.
