Starcraft 2 splits into 3 games!

Today Blizzard announced that the long awaited sequel of Starcraft was going to be splitted in 3 different new games.

Games will be released in this order:

The first : StarCraft II Terrans: Wings of Liberty
The second : StarCraft II Zerg: Heart of the Swarm
and finally : StarCraft II Protoss: Legacy of the Void.

Blizzard says it made the change to make each story that much more epic and to flesh out the StarCraft universe. By splitting the game, the company says that players will access more story content, more characters, and more customization.

Each game will be a stand-alone installment – not an expansion.

The original StarCraft had 32 missions; 12 for the Terrans, and 10 each for the Zerg and the Protoss. According to Blizzard, each of these StarCraft II games will consist of more than 30 missions.

The multiplayer remains relatively unchanged; each StarCraft II game will have a fully functioning multiplayer suite with all three races playable.

Sounds interesting, very interesting.
So this means online play too, correct? Possibly UMS? :o
Holy fuck, 30 missions!? It was hard enough to beat the last missions on SCI.

Eitherway, can't wait. :)

This was a good move from a business standpoint. The SC junkies with spend the price to buy the gamex3 to play through all the missions. I'll just buy one copy to get online :)

In the interview the guy said they will probably release them a year apart from each other, so that isn't too probable.

Man why does everyone see sc2 as snipers? Why the hell would you waste a good stradegy game playing with one unit...... Has anyone actually watched the videos? The ghost is basically a wc3 Dwarf..... If you want a upgrade on graphics, play wc3.

Each game better not be $50+. I'd maybe flesh out $20 per game, but if each is standalone that seems like Blizzard might get ripped off. Maybe $40 for the first and less if you can show you own another? =p

$30 each sounds nice.
A year apart sounds too distant.. Why the fuck would they do that. D:<
The melee should be fun, hopefully it'll have snipers.

Well, it's all most of us have been playing for years. Let's face it, everyone on this Forums has found UMS to be far more fun than Melee. But yeah, the different pace of the units + the different camera angle + the possible lack of angles will destroy Snipers. There'll probably be more fun games, though.

I pretty much doubt that there will still be snipers. When SC2 comes out snipers will be COMPLETELY dead and we will have to make another stupid UMS game on SC2 that derives of one unit and create a society full of immature ego-infested snobs again!

They'll be 50-60 each just about garunteed, if it's a year apart it's because they're seperate games. I'll be buying whichever comes out first by itself anyways, because i only play multiplayer so like a give a hoot...single player is for agorophobes and homosexuals

Online is still free right? xD

knowing blizzard they will release one at a time.. Terran first but the multiplayer online will remain the same..then after all 3 are released they will release some sort of battlechest collectors addition..
each will probably cost 50 dollars, price will drop if u wait long enough like all games.
I heard that SC was trying to release a new race.. but decided against it... so now this gives the development team a possible 4th release for upcoming years.. and gives additional time to work on it.

I personally never finished the campaign for any race as i was introduced to this game because of the online play. So i will probably only buy one game and wait till the price drops if i decide to buy all 3 at all.

Edit: scratch the 4th race if it comes out it would be in SC3 not an expansion lol

I think they plan on releasing all three WITHIN a year.

"We asked about the timeline for the three StarCraft II games, using Valve's original prediction of shipping all three episodes of the Half-Life 2 episodes within a single year, but reality is that it will take more than more like three years. Pardo thought that was a great example and said, "It's a little bit similar to that in that it would be great if we could have them follow one year from one another; I think that's going to be our target, but certainly that's not a promise in any way. But I think that's going to be around the realm that we're going to be hoping for."
