I played a game of risk the other night on SC... it sucked... I'd prefer it to be turned based like classic risk, or same time risk, where you plan your movies before each round, then the computer would act out each move... the latter would be extremely complex on SC though.

What exactly is DoTA? I hear all this stuff about it. I recall seeing my cousin playing some WC3 UMS game a few years ago that sounds like what yall are talking about. You'd get a random hero and be on a team and try and destroy the base of the other team. Map orientation was one base in south west, other in north east. Is that what it is?

Yes that's what it is.

I can't believe that map is THAT popular lol... people talk about it like it's its own game.

It's possibly one of the best UMS ever...Blizzard doesn't even officially make the maps yet it has it's own tournaments. It's several times more popular than snipes will ever be.

A lot of people buy War3 simply for DotA, it's moved to be its own game. They just keep adding stuff though, and there's like 60-75 heroes or so (per side even, maybe?) which is just nuts. The learning curve is pretty steep, but a bunch of guys at my school LAN it every couple of weekends so I might get into it. I know the basics but it's pretty slow paced from what I've seen, so I doubt it'll hold my attention like CS and snipers does.

Sc will definately cost 50$ minimum, probably 60. Melee is fun because you never know what could happen. Since people can't afford or with stand the sc2 requirements; I'd say definately move onto wc3. Dota is by far the most popuplar, but there are some nice games. Green TD, Freeze Tag, Couner Strike, Who's the murderer, attack of the zombies, Run Kitty Run (Best goddamn game on there in my opinion), and what do ya know? Snipers -_-

Most tds in war3 are either too hard or too easy. Green is one of those.

Risk on sc blows, Risk Devolution on wc3 is epic and IMO crazy funnn, > DOTA. I say this of course because im not a fan of single unit rpg type stuff like diablo 2 (used to love it like yrs ago though), WoW, or in essence Dota. I just hate extra on dota because it killed the maps i loved on wc3 =[

yeah dota's more based on knowing your capabilities and what the other hero can do to you, requires wayyy less micro than melee unless you're certain heroes. its like 85+ total heroes. learning it at first can be really damn annoying because people bitch at you for being a noob and there's very little you can do about it

Probably very true. But Snipers is the most popular UMS game on SC at least. I think it was only overtaken by Evolves at one point (they had their own Wikipedia page, lol).

I really wouldn't think Snipers is the most popular SC UMS...

Nope, you may think snipers is big because of these passed tournaments and current forums. Diplomacy, LOTR, and Bounds are the biggest.

I'd doubt that, reactor. The snipers community was always pretty big until locks, it's relatively small now. Even still, you can almost always find a game being hosted within a minute or so, meaning there's about 20 games constantly going on. Even my friends that I LAN with know what Snipers is and they barely stray from melee.

I see a decent amount of Diplo, but that's a pretty new game from what I know. LOTR and Bounds aren't really that popular.

I agree with the snipers thing mostly, but with 20 games simultaneously and assuming they are all 2v2, that's only 80 people playing.... not very popular considering there are thousands of UMSers.

Diplo is old... trust me I'd know haha... LOTR would be popular, it's really fun, but most people don't allow nubs to play EVER (LOTRers are even more nub spiteful than snipers). I never see many bounds, but there are probably hundreds of different ones... Girl Bound FTW!

i play lotr.. helm deep was the best, the old version.. not the newest anavatar and shit..

i like playing the last alliance against computer as well. Shit was so hard, fun and there was a lot of teamwork involved to take down the computer.

I hate when you have to vs other people because either A. they will own you, or they will leave.

LOTR and Diplo were very popular from my past experiences I even used to play them. Now Snipers is no where near the most popular game anyways.

SoG RH is really fun (Seige of Gondor: Random Heros) but sometimes you can be screwed 'cuz you get sucky heros... Also if you have a lot of heros it can be difficult if you can't hero manage, which I can't do haha...

Snipers wasn't really big at all. You assume so because you're a old sniper. Snipers isn't paintball made by psycho or lazer tag. Few other games that out do snipers and other ums by far. TOS, Sunken D, Turret D, those have been since forever..... maybe not TOS, but all are popular to this day.
