This is a project I've been working on since mid September. What I wanted to do was make the ultimate league with every possible feature you can ever want in a sniper league. What I've also done was make it manageable. The starting date of this league is yet to be decided, which might range from late November to early December. If you're interested in joining the league, follow this link: CLICK HERE |

I read that it's ladder based, so are you using an ELO system over a period of time? That could definitely get interesting. I see you're using "WGT Tour" derivation, but I have no experience with that ladder system. Details? =D The site looks much more professional and less cluttered this time, great work. =) |

Definitely not familiar with that term. I used the WGTour system because it was a more accurate way to give out PTS to players based on who they're playing. You lose/gain points according to the Grade that you and your opponent currently have. The Grades system is broken into 4 separate tiers in order for this system to work effectively. More Details found here: LINK Before people start telling me that is this too "complex", I assure you that it's pretty easy to learn if you take the time to look it over. I somewhat mastered it, which in the end will help me make the league manageable. |

ELO is the way they do it for chess. Everyone starts at 1200; basically you gain a % of the difference in your points plus a set amount, different places uses different ratings methods on the same system. For example, if someone with a 2600 ELO (Like Kramnik or someone) played me (1400 ELO), they would gain next to nothing for winning, but if I won I would shoot up a ton. Similarly, if he lost, he'd lose a ton of points, but if I lost, I'd lose very few. The goal is to weigh risk and reward. If you play harder opponents, you're supposed to have a lower chance of winning so you would gain more for winning. Likewise they should have an easier time beating you, so gain less for winning. The WGTour Ranks seem to be a similar system, I just like ELO because it's purely numerical and can be put into a spreadsheet or program easily. From what I can tell, it'll do the job. I see that everything looks like it's going to be a tournament format, which I'll simply wish you luck with... that didn't work for me at all but you'll definitely have more interest and I think your set scheduling will work well if you can garner the interest. |

I totally wrote that fast and didn't check. Let me re-say. What makes this tournament one of the ones that's going to finish. We've already experienced that anything that lasts for over a few weeks always ends up discontinued. You've had 2 SL tournaments out of 4 or so actually finish, each getting worse than the last, and the most recent, which was a 2 weeker, barely finished, with what? half the games played? How are you going to run a longer one when barely anybody decent plays anymore and nobody gets motivated enough to do anything. Klit has one running right now thats dead as can be as well lol. So many leagues, so pointless, what do the winners get out of it? haha a pat on the back? |

Good competition? A chance to back-up all the endless shit talking and complaints about luck and fluke wins. The opportunity to show your skills and play against the current best. |

Woo. Been there and done that for years. Won 3 leagues already, it hasn't had a meaning for about 3-4 years now. Everybody talks shit, everybody wins and loses. When they lose they call "luck" or "bad partner" or something retarded. |

Alright. KLiT's league is "dead" because the people that he trusted to run his tournaments when he was busy failed to do anything. The league that I'm trying to start up now is solely run by me, which means I don't have to wait for other people to give me feedback on tournaments. Why do I think this league will run much smoother? Because it will only last 2 month's, which is a little less then KLiT's league, and with a more interesting Ladder System in place, I don't think matters or not whether people want to play or not. People who are smart will most likely continue playing in order to move up the ladder. People who lose interest might/might not drop down in the ladder rankings. Unlike the past leagues that I ran, it doesn't require you to "play a certain amount of games", which saves me the trouble of running after you guys. This is what make ladders so much better, because you can play as much as you want! I also managed to pick a time slot where I won't be as busy, which is from early December to late January. I will be available most of the time (except weekends) for this league, so I cannot use the excuse that I have school work etc. The last league I ran was scheduled, which worked out a lot better then I expected, and being the first to host a sniper league through a schedule wasn't an easy task to begin with. It did manage to finish with the playoffs being the highlight of the season, so in the end, you might say that I'm "satisfied" with its outcome. Also, leagues in my point of view have been a great way for the community to get competitive at the game again. In your case, this probably isn't so. For a lot of other people, they actually think that league games are more intense + competitive. So in the end, whether you want to be in a league or not is up to you. I'm not going to force you to be apart of something you're not interested in. I do promise to those that will participate that this will be one of the smoothest running leagues yet! |
