Aliens; Fact or Fiction?

So do you feel that there is life on other planets? I'm slightly on the fence, because religiously, I have no idea what that would mean for my religion if there was life on other planets, but just scientifically, I'd think the odds are rather good for life to exist elsewhere.

I strongly believe that there is life on other planets in the universe that are as advanced or more advanced than us. But I don’t believe that these life forms exist in our solar system. However, I think there is life in our solar system in the form of bacteria possibly living on mars or on one of the many satellites in our solar system.

This doesn’t affect my religion much. I being a Christian understand that God is the creator of “every creeping thing”, so I wouldn’t be surprised or confused if we had several advanced life forms in our galaxy. But what always got me was, if there are intelligent beings such like ourselves in the universe, what would there religion be?

It's not only possible, but plausible.

While I don't think that it's likely that there is another sentient species with advanced intelligence similiar to us, I think it's probable that there is some planet out there that has developed the most rudimentary forms of life. Single cell organisms and whatnot.

However, in the event that there are some intelligent organisms out there, it will be most likely impossible for us to ever have any contact with these aliens, even if they were to exist. For one, think about how old the universe is, which is estimated to be at around 13 billion years old. What are the chances that any two intelligent races living in the universe at any given time within this 13 billion year timeframe will even have the opportunity to interact with one another. The average timeframe for the existence of a species is a few million years.

Think about how long it takes for our radio waves and transmission signals to reach even relatively nearby planets and solar systems. By the time they receive our signals, who's to say that we won't already be extinct? And even if we're not, it'll take them just as long to respond.

In short, it's more than possible for life to exist elsewhere in our universe, but the chance that we'll ever have any sort of meaninful interaction with aliens similiar to the movies is crushingly slim.

Considering almost every movie about aliens I've ever seen has involved them feasting on our entrails, I'll take this one as a blessing.

ive heard that we could actually spawn life on other planets by dumping water on them... something like that :ph43r:

Actually I've wondered if life develops in similar manners everywhere. For instance, if we found a planet very similar to earth, and put the foundations for life on it, assuming life begins and doesn't die out, would there be species on that planet that are similar to species on ours?

We can see 1,000,000,000,000 galaxies within the range of our current telescopes.
Each galaxy contains approximately 100,000,000,000 stars.

I think the chances are pretty good that life developed in many other places. Given that we're about to kill ourselves and have only lasted in the technological age for about 500 years, I don't think it's very likely that humanity will ever interact with other intelligent life. If by some chance we manage to expand off of earth and terraform before we end humanity, I'd say our odds are pretty good.

Given that humanity is more interested with producing toothbrushes that can also wipe your ass for you, and despite hundreds of time and energy-saving inventions we still have huge poverty and poor conditions across the world, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Is that a joke? For someone who claims to be intelligent you sure spout a lot of stupid shit.

My last post was kind of mean.. but I thought it was common knowledge that the human race is skull fucking the earth so hard that our metaphorical load is blowing the earth's brain into oblivion. Whether it be from harvesting the earth's natural resources until we starve ourselves or blow the fuck out of everything when countries go nuke happy, we're on a collision course for buttfuckery.

As far as aliens are concerned, I think it's fairly certain that some sort of life exists in the universe. I don't see mankind ever convening with some wicked awesome space dudes though.

Just 'cuz I'm in a decent mood I'll ignore that other post.

And it's not common knowledge, because stuff like that is debatable.

Hahahaha. Thank you merciful leader. Not.

It's not debatable. You can't debate hard evidence. Rather than making baseless claims why don't you support your point? Another thread is in order.

You made the claims. I only said they were debatable. You never provided any evidence to support your claims. All I'm asking for is irrefutable evidence that mankind will cause its own demise.

So you say they're debatable but don't elaborate in any sense? That's a baseless claim. My whole point was it being common knowledge, I don't understand how anyone with an education can refute that. The evidence is there, saying it's "debatable" without understanding on the matter (which you seem to lack to an extreme) is ignorant. You seem to be somewhat bright, but from what I've gathered you're extremely naive. I'm just waiting for the day that Einstein's statement about World War 4 comes to reality, but if we're lucky we'll last long enough to toast our planet.
