Who all wasted their time stocking up on water/food anyways? I know my 'family' did. I actually believed something would happen too, all because I was young and dumb. :[

So...whatever happened to Demagog's refutation of global warming based on Michael Crichton's extensive research?

I think he's gone. Done with snipers, done with the forums, away from the community.

Please don't jinx us, DeMuRe.

Back on topic: It doesn't matter what really causes it, because humans aren't going to take any stride greater than E-80 Ethanol to stop the warming until a disaster has already happened. Humans are reactive, not proactive, and that's sadly just the way it is. Or, that's my belief anyway, feel free to disagree. Gore is obviously not the best way to prove global warming's danger (documentaries these days are rarely completely without agenda. Ahem, Michael Moore), but trying to disprove the entire concept with the guy who wrote Jurassic Park and the Andromeda Strain… what the fuck?

Eh, sorry.

He gave me 2 of his SC accounts and sent a PM to me saying he put a good word in for me and that he's moving on. I don't know how many people actually left for good after saying they would do so, but I'm just telling you what I know.

I have State of Fear but I haven't read it in the longest time.

I'm pretty sure it can't disprove global warming....

Crichton says in the end that "human activity is the probable cause" (author's message)

At best, one could be skeptical of global warming based off the book. He does say that there isn't enough information and we aren't sure how much of the problem is just a natural phenomenon.

I'd like to read demagog's argument.

The end of the world in 2012 is garbage. The basis behind the 2012 hype involves the zodiac signs.

The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree

What does this mean? This means that from an earthly standpoint, it will appear that the stars appear to be in specific positions. Does this have any effect on our lives whatsoever? Absolutely not. It's astrological superstitious gratuitious nonsense.

Lol the position of Stars could have Alot of affect on our lives, what are you talkin about solar? What if, the moon moves to a position right infront of the sun (a star) and causes an eclipse that last a long ass time, wtf u think gon happen? Im not an astrologer or nothin but im pretty sure stars can affect us in ALOT of ways. Like a supernova that can destroy the planet earth or somethin. Or a meteor shower big enuff to wipe us off.

Back to the 2012 thing...I completely forgot about it till i read this, why'd u have to remind me? =/. I kinda believe it tho...it's kinda scary. Who knows what might happen....maybe we'll get extinct in a similar way that the dinosaurs and many other species did.

Too many possibiltiies. I read about this lots and lots and lots. Thing likes where we've entered the stone age , ice age etc etc. And another possibility is we're entering the age of the sun, or w/e i forgot. where blah blah we will be pure and shit lol. with lots of scientific evidence that something will happen as well as religious views and calendars. but we dont know we're just gonna have to wait to find out . It can be the end of the world but we cant do anything about it but it also can just be another beginning because the mayan calandar ends, it doesnt state ANYTHING that the world will die. think about that. for those who are really afraid of death. we're all afraid of death for sure, its what happens after death that is more scary. so ppl like skid " i dont give a fuck." go give urself 100 cuts then bleed to death. u dont care eh.

The end of the world happening in 2012 is less than likely. Seeing extreme changes due to complications however, which would LEAD to problems is something you should take seriously. An alteration from the normality is very likely. Extreme solar burts [i believe thats the correct term] seem to be the main scare here. If you don't know what these are, the sun from time to time sends extreme blasts of heat out into space. Something along the lines of this, would better explain it.

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/10mar_stormwarning.htm

In a nutshell, the sun is calm, which is uncommon, and when it starts freaking out again, it's gunna reach its maximum heat and its bursts will be alot stronger. It will fuck w/ our communications [cell phones, satellites, etc] and it could possibly effect our planet's core, which would slow the "conveyor belt" like the day after tomorrow. The belt helps stabilize temperature via water. If it stops, things would get incredibly cold aka lotssssss of snow.

I dont believe in the world ending in 2012. Astroids destroying earth - they work on stuff every day to stop that and solve situations.

Most of the "Theorys" are from Religous Nutjobs.

What kind of funding do you think the government allocates for "remotely possible doomsday scenarios"? We don't have shit.
