Thing's you'll need VirtualDub x264vfw (codec) Youtube account (or any other video-sharing websites that allow HD content) Before you begin: I highly recommend everyone getting a Youtube account right now if you don't already have one. There is now a way for everyone to upload longer videos, and they allow for HD content to be uploaded. Since Youtube caters to every type of video (almost), we won't have to worry about them removing our videos like other sites would. The reason why I made this tutorial is because I've noticed that a lot of videos that have been uploaded in the past have been poor in quality. Better quality videos is just a better way to show that you have nothing to hide! I also recommend when you are recording your videos, try setting the frames per second at something like 24 so that the video looks smoother... I'm tired of looking at choppy videos (that wasn't caused by in-game lag). Instructions: 1. Download VirtualDub here: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ Pick whatever version works for your computer and install it. 2. Download x264vfw (codec) here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/ Install it into your computer. 3. Open VirtualDub and then open the video file you wan't to compress. To do so, go to File > Open video file... Posted Image Once you've chosen a video, go to Video > Filters... Posted Image Now, click on Add... Posted Image Select resize and press OK Posted Image In this menu, tick the Absolute (pixels) and Disabled options. Notice I changed the values to 1280x720. This will ensure that your video will play as a 720p HD file on Youtube. Posted Image After that, just click OK to everything. Now we're going to set the compression options by going to Video > Compression... Posted Image Select the x264vfw codec from the list on the left. After selecting it, press Configure on the right hand side Posted Image In here, try to keep the settings around the same place as I have. You could fiddle around and perhaps create even better quality videos. Posted Image After that, just click OK to everything. If your video doesn't have sound, you can disable compressing sound by going to Audio > No Audio (select this) Now you can start compressing your file by going to File > Save as AVI... Then you can save your file to whatever name and destination you want. Allow the video to start compressing (it normally takes around 30 minutes maximum for me and the file size ends up somewhere around 70-80mb) ***ADDED AUG 14, 2012*** To save you time, save the settings of your configuration so you don't have to manually input them every time you open VirtualDub. Simply go to File > Save Processing Settings Posted Image Save and name it something you'll remember. The next time you open VirtualDub and want to compress an HD video, go to File > Load Processing Settings and select your saved .vcf file. Posted Image 4. Now get on Youtube and upload your file. In order to upload longer videos, when you are in the Upload section, you might see something that says Upload HD videos in various formats up to 15 minutes. Click on the thing that says Increase your limit. After this screen, it'll ask for your phone number to verify that it's your account. Posted Image Afterwards you should see a screen like this instead. Congrats! You may now upload longer videos. Posted Image Edited by 777averick, Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:50 pm.

Hmm.. I'm trying this with a vid right now... takes a bit longer to compress with Vdub under these settings.. but it'd be worth it to have "watchable" vids. Edit: It also doubles the time for upload to youtube as well... at least for me it did. Edited by Trav, Thu May 3, 2012 2:38 pm.

Nice job. I just want to warn people that sometimes there won't be a 720p option. All I did was upload again and it was there. Seems to be inconsistent. |
