UPDATED DEC 24, 2014: The entire list will be revealed sometime tomorrow on Christmas day. UPDATED OCT 28, 2014: The rest of the entries will be done with a more visually appealing presentation. The remaining 15 should be completed in November (of this year). UPDATED AUG 2, 2014: Slowly but surely this will be completed someday. UPDATED AUG 19, 2013: This is a cumulative analysis after years of playing the game. Everything is subjective, so please don't take it personally if you don't agree with where I placed certain individuals. I have also included a rubric on how I grade individuals. Read the following below on how I will evaluate players: Criteria: Possible maximum of 45 points A. Legitimacy [1 ---> 10] One of the most controversial things about our game is whether or not ex-hackers should be allowed to be put into a list such as this. I think so. For those who have been caught hacking in the past, I have graded them more harshly than those with a clean record. Remember that everything is subjective. LEGITIMACY SCORE SYSTEM B. Skills [1 ---> 10] Having knowledge is one thing, but being able to apply it during game time is another. While having knowledge is important in succeeding, being able to execute it effectively is much more vital. There are a lot of knowledgeable people that aren't great players. Then there are others that aren't knowledgeable in every facet of the game, but are still able to succeed due to their natural ability to play the game. Lastly, there are a rare group of individuals that are both knowledgeable and skilled at the same time. These folks are the ones that will score the highest in this category. SKILLS SCORE SYSTEM C. Knowledge [1 ---> 10] Certain people in this community have been able to dissect and understand the game better than others. These individuals understand the nuances of the game that other simple-minded folks would rather ignore than embrace. Many of the skeptics of snipers have claimed that this game requires no skill. For us more experienced players, this is not the case. Certain pioneers of various tactics such as glitching, shs, dlocks will be also ranked higher in this category. KNOWLEDGE SCORE SYSTEM D. Teamwork [1 ---> 10] A partner that you have great chemistry with is usually more than enough to give your team the upper-hand against your opponents. There are certain individuals that will adapt to their partners style of play to compliment their games. For others, it's either their way or the highway. There are people that I've been able to play with over the years simply because their style works with mine or that they are team players. To be clear, this category has to do with an individuals ability to play with others. There are a lot of people that have shitty personalities, but can still play a team game. TEAMWORK SCORE SYSTEM E. Personality[1 ---> 5] Why did I add a category where someone's likableness counts towards their value as a sniper player? For partners, I tend to play better with people that I get along with. People that are calm and collected put me at ease during game time. People that get nervous and angry easily can ruin the momentum/chemistry of the team. If I can't stand you, there is a higher chance of me playing under stress. I hate stress. I think you get the point here. If I were facing you, games are more fun to play in when both parties have nothing to lose. These are games where the outcome won't make or break relationships. This isn't to say that I don't like competition. I thrive it, but there are those that treat this game like it's larger than life. Yes, I enjoy this game a lot, but there is no reason to create unnecessary drama. At the end of the day, one of the reasons why the game is dying simply because of these cancerous personalities. One exception from what I just mentioned are those players that are sore losers. Even if you are easy to deal with outside of the game doesn't mean that you are just as pleasant to be around during games. These people will also be ranked low in this category. PERSONALITY SCORE SYSTEM Tie Breaking Process: If there is a tie in overall rating, I will decide the higher ranked player based on this order: Legitimacy > Skills > Knowledge > Teamwork > Personality If players are tied in every single category, I will just choose the player I think is better skill-wise. |

Lol @ the JaSiNaToRs joke. He got good and then his account got banned by the Warden and he hasn't been back since :-P Also, SOLAR didn't discover the pulse theory, WooD and I did in early 2005 some time. Save also discovered this on his own somewhere around this time, because I remember talking to him once around a year later and he caught me off guard when he told me about his idea. He may have even beat me and WooD to the punch, can't be certain. SOLAR is the one who named it, and I do believe he is the one who discovered that the game checks to see if your Ghost is in range every 43 or 86 milliseconds (if it wasn't SOLAR who discovered this, I apologize to the person who really deserves the credit). And TeaLX was an East sniper, he played as d-bLaDe-b for awhile in 2003 and partnered SEPHIR8TH. |

And while I'm here, something else: ArchAngel's akas were Ar(hAngel, IvIS-ArchAngel, x)ArchAngel(x, and S)S)S-ArchAngel. I also saw Unjustified_1 claim that his aka was FaStLoCk shortly after he left 3oD and was never heard from again, because he posted a replay of him on the old klined.tk forums he used to run. Of course, this can't be confirmed since the replay Vague posted was accusing this FaStLoCk guy of hacking, and we all know what kind of character Fleet- later turned out to be. Could have been lying. ArchAngel wasn't really all that good at angling, his forte were stances as you said, and the pullshot, which was a nasty technique back in Walks, as I'm sure you remember. He was the person to explain to me how pulling actually worked, I hadn't ever heard anyone who knew what actually caused it to function. Also, he was a pretty good glitcher when he wanted to be, at least for 2003's standards. It was a style of play he didn't overuse, I think he was just more of an action kind of guy. His style of play was incredibly fast-paced for how the game was generally played in 2003. Something Xtreme told me in 2004 during my first tenure in 3oD that I could never get him to admit or repeat was that he actually kicked ArchAngel out of the clan for hacking, claiming "no one can lock that fast." Take it for what it's worth, maybe Xtreme just had a change or heart later on, but that was 100% said, even though it contradicts everything I've ever heard him say about the guy both before and after that statement. I actually had Arch as the #1 sniper playing when I first met him, I had never seen anything like him in my life. He was downright terrifying. I think it's a little ridiculous to rank him so high for how good he was in 2002 and 2003, as he was a VERY short-lived player, but he was beyond all doubt a top five player in the Walks era. |

No one is trying to steal any glory. SOLAR discovered that in, what, 2009? The fact that angling was not about positioning in regards to their sniper or actual angles and more about locking your enemy in a window of time that allows you to shoot first was not really a secret in 2009. All of the old angling tricks had been long exposed by inconsistencies by then, so obviously something similar to pulsing was in play. I do give SOLAR full credit for actually delving into the numbers and science of it, but I feel Mav has ranked him so high in part because he's crediting him with this discovery. I think SOLAR's best contribution was the half-time switch, personally. It improved the game tremendously. The best angler of all time was Dj.TeC because before he quit, he was the only sniper who actually formed an angling trick that worked. Not coincidentally, he was also the best stancer I had ever seen, and had been so since 2003. Dj.TeC somehow found a way to count the number of steps your sniper would take while in this pulsing window before shooting, and found a way to do it correctly nearly every time. Angling and stancing are total feel shots at the end of the day, and TeC had timing that no hack could provide. Genius, if you ask me. I really hope that guy is in the top ten somewhere. |

Well I can tell you that there is a program that shows you exact ranges of every unit you select so with something like that it would be very simple to figure out a system of "when to lock". |

I knew that theory before solar and a bunch of other.. I just never gave it any gay ass name and i did not calculate the mili second either.. All i knew is that when u "double lock" or lock 1 mili second before your range, you'd shot first in 90% of the time. Who ever used the "pulse theory" as it is is a complete idiot. As a proof i kept raping solar and making him cry hack while he had that advantage theory over me. Useless huh |

That's not the pulse theory. Double locking a millisecond outside of range is d-locking. Angling and pulsing are the exact same thing, and they're different from d-locking. D-locking is the most superior form of lure/getting a shot or placement advantage we have due to the lack of guesswork involved. If you can judge when a Ghost is just outside of your range, then you can d-lock. Angling requires a bit more finesse, intuition, and, quite frankly, luck. |

I would bet any possession I have that Dj.TeC wasn't using whatever program you're talking about. TeC hasn't even sniped in like three years, and he was using this trick even before that. If this program was five or more years old, then we would have heard about it before this post. TeC was also as legit as they come. Stand-up guy all around. |

This is probably why im good then.. I dont rely my game on a "theory" that is based on luck. Lemme create a new theory.. The "zigzag theory" meaning if u just move a little bit up before locking u have lucky chances to kill him lol.. Pulse theory.. What is the new joke lol |

You're not far off from how things were done before you started playing with your "zig-zag" theory. When I was sniping in 2002, luring was a technique, but it was just "luring". No one knew what made a person shoot first, and there was no concept of an angle, people mostly just did it for trail vision. In '03 is when I first started hearing about angles, but I had no idea what they were. It seemed like a trick only the very elite of sniping knew about, and every time I asked a really good player, they would just kind of play it off. The reason for this, as it would later dawn on me, was because they didn't actually know what they were doing. Most of the battle in luring back then was just doing it, and since I didn't understand luring, I never attempted it unless I was in a dire situation. I used mostly blinds and strategic shifting. I inadvertently learned my first angling trick from Unjustified_1, and his theory was your sniper being positioned slightly to the left of the enemy sniper during vertical and diagonal luring would allow you to win, as well as slightly above their sniper in horizontal lures. The simple act of attempting lures, even though my trick was BS, improved my skill tenfold. Having some confidence that something would work most of the time gave me quite a bit of edge. Later on, after I figured out everyone was just faking it, I would ask some snipers what their methods were, and everyone had some kind of trick like this. An old sniper named 3oD[Lethal] (not LoKz) told me he did the exact opposite; slightly below or slightly to the right. ScV_HoRsEy told me he just moved in any direction if the two Ghosts were positioned in a straight line. KLiT's gun trick was actually invented by RyDaZ in '03, that's another one. The truth is, all of these tricks worked because once you picked a method and stuck with it, you would work yourself into a groove eventually by repeating the same movements over and over. The snipers who were more adept at finding this rhythm, or had better muscle memory, were the snipers who excelled at consistently moving their Ghost into this window, or "pulse", where they would get the first shot. Angling is not really based on luck, but it's so hard to time correctly, and other things such as screen positioning and the other player moving their Ghost about has made it a lot more of a crapshoot as gameplay has evolved. With d-locking, you have a definite measuring stick, so you're not guessing and praying nearly as much. Angling is kind of an art form, and players like IcY, Dj.TeC, KLiT, EdGe, etc, were the dominating players back then because they had that x-factor when it came to eyeballing and aiming what looked right. The first person I ever heard reject the old angling theories was FaZ-. Even though he was thinking well ahead of his time, his idea was flawed because he rejected all angles outright. He thought it was all random and there was no driving mechanism, and he thought that only stancing and walkstancing were concrete. Which is funny, because he wasn't particularly good at stancing or walkstancing, lol. |

It depends on how far away the lock is coming. Back when it wasn't uncommon for a lot of opponents to NL most of their locks, some really good snipers would just move in weird directions to make the other guy drift. ScV_hArmFuL and CiViC are two people in particular who come to mind. CiViC and his crew called it curve angling. I don't think drift comes to play when someone is around d-lock range or is trying to dance you. |

Tbh all these methods of getting the kill (every single one) is dependant on when you lock. Ya you may use a drift or two to help the other person's sniper from shooting but your shot depends on when you locked. |

It doesn't depend on the gun. You can put it through field tests to show this isn't accurate. It's all about locking during that window when the game checks to see if you're in range, which is the "pulse", as SOLAR describes it. BanG is right, they ALL depend on the timing of the lock, but d-lock is superior because the distance of the enemy Ghost gives you a concrete visual aid of when to lock. @skiD; Angles can't really be killed since the angles are what drive the game, but trying to wrangle position via angling is inferior to d-locking in almost every way. Snipers are simply too good at micro these days to allow them the cushion of space that angling does. The lures generally need to be tighter and as close to the Ghost's range as possible, or really fast people will have too much time to react. |
