The XP system

Hey guys.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else feels the SWRPG XP system is annoying?

I'm in a situation where I have three different tree's of skills (Force, talent and just skills) that all require pretty substantial XP investments to become useful. Its frustrating as a force "sensitive", because learning anything to do with the force seems like it is a big XP drain, while if you want to become something unique via your talents, that is also a huge XP drain. I mean most skills in the Makashi duelist tree are pretty useless, sans the ones at the very bottom of the system, so it feels like they want you to put a lot of time and effort into upgrading those, while you have to keep up with all your regular skills as well as trying to get something out of the force tree.

Any advice?

Bob.

PS: I had discussed with Ray that a double-bladed lightsaber would be pretty cool for Kaiser, but that requires another point in Agility, which means I will have to sink 70-75ish XP into the Duelist tree to get another point in my main stats, which seems pretty ridiculous.

I'm actually a fan of the XP system. I much prefer it to the traditional 'levelling' system of tabletop games, as it actually feels you're gradually and slowly getting better, rather than leaping upwards in ability in spurts.

As a force user, you're definitely spread more thin than usual but it's mainly for balance. The force powers can be very strong, and get you out of (and into) trouble in situations where a non-force user would have little to no recourse, so you have to sacrifice talent or skill progression for that. But it's not all that different as a non-force user in terms of progression, when you look at it.

B9 is hitting the talents at the end of his tree now. He's got his extra point in Agility, and he's just got a defence point. But in order to do this, he's taken next to no ranks in skills. He's still only got 2 ranks in Ranged (Heavy), his primary combat skill, and that's after buying one rank post-chargen. That's his highest skill.

To me, the system seems like a slow and gradual climb, and they don't want to give you too much too quickly.

Especially not a lightsaber, because fuck you.
