"Those birds were mean," he said plainly, looking down at them again. He looked at them for a while, as if thinking about something, then looked back at Zoe. He noticed that she was beginning to cry and furrowed his brow a bit, partially in confusion and partially in pity. "It's all right," he said, trying to comfort her a bit. "They wanted to do that to you, probably," He smiled a little in an attempt to cheer her up. He didn't like seeing crying people. Smiling and laughing people were much better to look at and be around. He thought about how Euan would probably be happy if he saw him doing this, and it occurred to him that he was much farther away now from Euan. He turned around and looked about, trying to find him. |
