Duff straightened out his neck again, and his expression was changed dramatically. His blissful air was gone, along with his smile, which was replaced by a frown of uncertainty. He looked at Somerled with eyes swimming with confusion, his eyebrows lowered and arched with longing.
“What do you... but...” the thought of all of it was wonderful, breathtaking, unbelievable--like a dream of paradise. To spread his wings freely, let the world see them and warm them in the sun, unconcealed, and to work his unique art with no constraints, all without worry, was enticing and luring. To be surrounded by people like him...
But doubt settled on him. He didn’t know this man, had never seen him even once before, yet he knew his name and, more than that, knew of his wings and talent. No one was supposed to know that other than Euan and himself.
Euan! His loving father, whom he had accepted as his father years before. He had done it for a reason, and wasn’t going to ignore it. “But... Daddy said... not to talk to strangers...” he said, beginning to back away.
