It was rather dreary out. The sun was hiding behind some clouds, grey ones at that, although the wind wasn't blowing so it wasn't cold out. Dahlia was dressed comfortably enough, wearing a pair of old jeans that were starting to rip and tear in various places, along with an equally holey black t-shirt and a pair of boots that seemed to be a size or two too large for her. The park was a nice, quiet place that Dahlia sometimes came to when she needed to think. In particular she found the playground to be a nice place, often sitting on the edge of the slide or hanging upside down from the monkey bars. Today she had come to the park on a whim, wanting to get away from her grandparents for a little while. They were wonderful to her, but sometimes all that sugary sweetness made her teeth ache. Besides, she needed to think and be by herself. After she had shown off to the younger kids in Greave, it hadn't occured to her that they'd run off and tell their parents first thing. Well of course they would, she thought wryly. They're kids. They tell their parents everything. Dahlia hadn't meant to be a show off, it's just that the little town was so very boring, and her act had made all the youngsters go 'ooh' and 'aah'. She'd made little drawings in chalk on the side of the school building, which wouldn't have been a problem if she hadn't made them so high it was obvious no one could reach by normal means. Luckily none of the parents seemed to believe their children. Maybe everyone would assume she'd gotten on a ladder and done it. She certainly hoped so. Dahlia wasn't sure she could lie to her grandparents if they asked her about it. Brushing her bangs out of her face, Dahlia sat down on one of the swings in the playground, pushing off gently with her feet. She'd swing slowly once or twice before giving another push, her enthusiasm lacking. She sat there on the swing with her hands folded in her lap, staring off into the distance as her thoughts wandered. She missed her dad. |

Somerled watched the girl from about 30 yards away. He was sitting on a bench and reading The Journey to the Center of the Earth. "That's our target, Natara. Remember, no physical force unless it's necessary." Somerled didn't expect a reply and simply stood up, closed his book, and walked over to Dahlia. "Hello, Dahlia. My name is Somerled, and I'm here to escort you to your new home. We know about your power, and we know that people with powers, such as yours aren't generally accepted in society. Therefore we're taking you to a place where you will be accepted and able to use your powers without fear of ostracism." |

"Alright, there won't be any, unless necessary." She followed Somerled until they reached the girl. As he greeted this Dahlia, Natara simply stood behind him and watched her movements. She wondered if this newcomer would try to run or would fight it; she hoped not; she was tired. She kept listening to Somerled's greeting. Ostracism. Natara began to feel nervous; another hole in her English. What's ostracism? Regret, punishment? Oh whatever, it doesn't matter, I'm not saying it anyway. |

So wrapped up in her thoughts was Dahlia, she hardly noticed the approaching teenagers. Vaguely aware of their presence, the words spoken by the boy fell on deaf ears. Couldn't he see that she was thinking? Her eyes didn't focus until the boy was done speaking, at which point she shook her head as if to dispell the fog her mind had been in. Dahlia looked at him and his silent companion with a bewildered look on her face. "Um, I'm sorry.. could you run that by me again?" she asked, eyes going from the boy to the girl. She had only picked up on her name being said - how did he know her name? - and something about her powers. Oh no. Panic began to set in as she realized what this might be about. If she ever got ahold of the brat who went yapping to their big brother about her little stunt, she'd.. she'd.. Who was she kidding, she'd probably just give the kid the silent treatment. Dahlia immediately began to make up stories in her head concerning the chalk drawings and thinking of ways to get the two to leave her in peace. Had she been thinking rationally, she would have realized that neither of the two teens were at all familiar, and that they didn't live in Greave. Thinking rationally in odd situations such as this wasn't really her strong point, though. "Whatever you've heard, it's all a bunch o' rubbish," she said as confidently as possible, which wasn't very much at all. Dahlia suddenly missed the unassuming people of her street in London. |

Somerled sighed slightly at being unheard. All though he'd been basically ignored all his life, it still buggered him. "Well, lassie, it's hard to say that something I've seen with my own eyes. Like I said before, you need to come with us. Somebody with powers, such as yourself, isn't necessarily accepted in modern society. We're going to take you someplace where you can use your powers without worrying about other people seeing and telling." |

Natara only continued to stand there. This girl seemed a little air headed to zone out when two people are walking right at her and talk directly to her. She seemed to obviosuly be hiding something. She wanted to just get this kid and go do something more interesting. Yay synonyms, now I know what that stupid word means. Natara was quite happy that Somerled used a more understandable phrase than ostracism. |
