Tessa slept on a tree outside the 5th grade wing, the teachers had gotten so used to her being on campus without being in class that no-one payed attention to her. She listened half heartedly to the things the students inside the classrooms were learning. The teacher had a small child up to the board it seems, to do one of those math problems that always started out the day. Since she'd settled there the sun had changed position in the sky and was now glaring right at hr face, which was a very unwelcome feeling, and uncommon weather. She shifted about so that her face was out of the sun. Her baggy long sleeve caught itself on a little nub in the bark, makings her turn herself so that she could uncatch herself, letting her legs fall on either side of the branch. The next kid had come up to the board for another set of math problems. She felt kinda sorry for them, that they had to suffer through the teachers lectures while she slept in the oak outside the window. But they could just do what she did right? Stupid kids. So with that she tried to go back to sleep. Well that'd be if the damned rodent that lived in the tree hadn't thrown an acorn at her head the moment she was about to doze off. Thank you, she though, and got herself, up, jumping to the next branch and then the next till she was above the squirrel for a while. Of course the squirrel was a relentless creature and drove her back lower. In the end she closed her eyes and vainly tried to doze off while being hit with a barrage of acorns from above. the las thing she was going to do for that squirrel is leave. As much as she loved squirrels this one was especially unforgiving today. The bell rang loudly and soon enough groups of students were flowing out of their classrooms. The squirrel scampered over to the students, having been on of those tamed school squirrels that begs for food from the little children stupid enough to feed it.Unable to get any sort of rest Tessa sat up quietly and watched from her perch. A few kids threw a glance her way, but around here she was just a facet of life. |

Natara watched this new girl from across the yard. Why was she sleeping in a tree? Trees don't exactly seem comfortable, but it fit this girls nickname and powers. "Monkey. Why would anyone want to be named monkey. I hate monkeys." Natara spoke to herself, under her breath. She saw her shift on the branches and get caught. "That definitely doesn't look comfortable." She seemed to be trying to sleep in the tree, strange idea to Natara. She laughed a little when a squirrel pegged her with an acorn. "Never seen a squirrel do that." Natara approached the base of the tree and leaned on it, trying to look inconspicuous. She waited, watching the children pour out of the building, going off and doing whatever kids do. "Bleh, I hate kids, and school." Being back at a school brought back some of her own childhood memories, something she generally disliked. The past was gone and she had a new home, so why think about the past. Once most of the children were off, she signaled for Amiley to come to her. "We're both going to go in the tree, even though she can climb better than both of us. If necessary just freeze her or whatever you do so we can get her." Natara climbed the tree to the lowest branch, waiting for a moment for Amiley to follow. "Tessa Gibb right? I know about your powers and all that, so I'll be taking you to a place with other kids like you, got it? I'll be taking you whether you like it or not. But thats just one of our rules. So are you going to just come with me or does this have to be difficult?" Natara and watched her carefully, looking for signs of escape or resistance. |

"Tessa Gibb right? I know about your powers and all that, so I'll be taking you to a place with other kids like you, got it? I'll be taking you whether you like it or not. But thats just one of our rules. So are you going to just come with me or does this have to be difficult?" Unhooking herself from the knob, finally, Tess looked down at the girl who'd called her name. Powers, what in the word was this girl taking about, and why were the two of them attempting to climb the tree she was in. "Are you crazy, what powers?" Her face displayed a look of utter confusion, they were talking about a place for kids like her. Did that mean an orphanage, were they taking her from her parents. Why were they so young, and how in the world did this tie into these power thingies they were talking about. "There's no way I'm coming with you anyway, aside from being nutjobs I'm not going with people who want to take me to some sort of half-way home. My parents do a fine job raising me! Get off my dang tree!" At this point her voice had hit such an unintelligible pitch that the squirrel came back to see what was wrong with its family. She got up and ran to the end of the branch, "You'll never take me willingly, so catch me if you can." Crouching down for a second she then launched herself toward the roof of one of the school buildings. Amiley nodded toward Natara, "It's a good thing you brought me, it'll be hard to catch that kid." She pursed her lips and tightened her face in concentration. In mid jump, just above the roof of the building Tessa became paralyzed. She rolled down the side of the building and ended up one the edge, with her shoulder resting in the gutter, the only thing keeping her from falling off. "That'll only last a minute. We've got to figure out how to get up there but the time she comes to." Tessa could still think, and was at the moment not so much frightened as uncomfortable. Her body was trying to get her balanced on the sloped plane and her entire left side, the side in the gutter, went numb. Hearing that she only had to deal with a minute of this she started to figure out what she'd do the moment she could move again. They couldn't get on the roof that fast right? On the other hand, if they were the ones who paralyzed her, what else could they do, were there the powers they'd been talking about. |

Natara read the girls mind casually. "Yeah powers. You have them. And don't worry, it's just a place with other kids like you; they have special powers and abilities. Unfortunately for some, yeah you'll be taken away from your parents but thats just a side effect; you get all the freedom you could ever want." Natara sighed, "You didn't seem to hear me. You will come with us, it just has ti happen that way, and I would suggest you just start to forget about your parents." Natara winced at the girls high pitched voice. Despite the fact that she knew she couldn't keep up, she persisted in following the girl up the tree. "Just calm down and come with us. It'll be easier that way." She laughed a little as Amiley froze the girl. "Thanks for that, it'll make it a lot easier. I think we can just grab her; its not that high of a building." Natara shimmied her way across the branch quickly but nervously. She never particularly liked heights. As soon as she was almost within arms reach of the girl she mentally pulled the girls arm into her reach. She grabber her wrist firmly. "Gotcha, you little bugger." |

"It's almost off." Cried Amiley, who was standing at the bottom of the tree. She'd thoroughly given up climbing the tree. Powers? I have power? Even if these people are crazy i might as well try. but seriously what sort of powers would I have. came out of the messed up thoughts in Tess's head. And then she heard Amiley's call, and almost immediately felt the affects of the paralysis wearing off. She breathed a sigh of relief. And then held her breath again. the tan girl had her by her hands, and she couldn't move her left side yet. Feigning capture she got back to her feet again, using as much power from her right leg to get herself up. Her face was twisted into a horrified expression as she realized that the paralysis was wearing off slower than she expected. Unable to get herself all the way up she leaned onto her right leg. "I think we got her, you think we can get her down from there. I dunno how well you can climb down holding her." And then she went back to the trunk of the tree and tried to find the hand and foot holds that Natara had used. Amiley failed horribly at climbing trees and after finding those foot and hand holds ended up hanging there, unable to pull herself up the the next part of the tree. Just then Tessa got her power back as her liquids settled back to where they should have been, with a swift twist of her wrist she stole her hand away from Natara and wrestled the rest of herself away. "I told you it wouldn't be easy to catch me, you ought to try harder than that." Amiley looked bewildered, "Suppose I spoke too soon." Climbing down to the overhang of the building Tess jumped down to the walkway, and ran off away from the tree where they'd found her. Amiley, who was closer to the ground than Natara was, ran after her without a word. |

"Well, thats great." Natara was could hardly talk, concentrating on pulling the girls arm towards her. "Yes, Tess, you do have powers, but I damn well could be happy if you didn't." Natara knew the paralysis was fading, from the girl's sigh of relief. "Amiley, how long does it take before you can use your power again?." Natara spoke only to herself, not expecting an answer. Natara smiled at the girl grimace as she kept a firm grip on her. She heard Amiley speak but paid little attention, she needed to catch the girl. I could just drop and pull her down with me, but I'd prefer not to get hurt. At that moment Natara felt the girls body returning to its normal state. The girl ripped herself from Natara's grip. As the girl ran Natara screamed angrily. She watched Amiley run after Tess. She simply dropped from the tree, it hurt but as soon as she hit the ground the ran after Tess. Natara knew she was fast, she just hated running. She soon caught up with Amiley. "Where do you think she's headed?" She yelled, pumped with adrenaline and anger. |

"Stop repeating yourself, I don't care if you think I have powers. And I certainly don't care what crackpot powers you think I have." She yelled back at the two that were chasing her. "Why they would send crazed people after me is beyond me." She mumbled to herself." She was heading toward the woods, hoping to lose the girls in the tree's when they got denser. Sprinting over the school grounds she caught the site of the woods over the houses that were spread around the school. Speeding up she passed through a couple yards, easily vaulting herself over fences, hoping they would keep the two busy. The houses seemed to mass in a dull colored blur, and her heart beat baster with every stride. Not only was she trying to get rid of recruiters or something, but they were crackpot recruiters. She'd heard of strange things happening in her little town, but they never surfaced long enough for her really to touch on them. Now the idea burst out like a red flag. With the strange things happening in this town her mother must really be closed in to let her roam about the town like that. Of course the idea that these two could be the kidnappers, never crossed her mind. Amiley looked over at Natara, who'd just caught up with her, and was running furiously to keep up with Tessa. "I can use it by now I'm sure, I just can't catch her now, she's moving too fast." She took a swift turn around the houses, trying her best to find the routes that had spaces between the yards or no fence at all. Of course, they eventually came to a fence. "We've probably lost her now." She was heading toward the woods. So's if we get over this and to the forest, maybe you can search her out with your telepathy." She started trying to find foot holds on the fence next to it as the actual obstacle had the support boards on the other side. Climbing up, with a lot of effort, she managed to jump over the fence. "yeah she's far outa sight, " she said calmly. Tessa Had finally gotten to the forest, and giving up running to take a break, hurriedly found herself a group of bushes, near the edge of the forest itself. Lying amongst the bushes she tried to catch her breathe and hoped that her pursuers were long gone. |

"Damn she's fast." Natara grumbled to herself about the girl. "Why couldn't she have been more docile." She She watched the girl jump a fence around a yard. "Don't you think that's proof enough of your powers? Jumping clear over a fence? Not many can do that." She made sure she yelled loud enough for Tess to hear. When she arrived at the fences, she tried her hardest to scale them as quickly as possible, though she was never good at climbing things. "I can use it by now I'm sure, I just can't catch her now, she's moving too fast." "How close do you have to be to use it?" She was losing her breath and getting tired. "If she's in the forest, why don't we just run her right into Cathriss? Why waste our time trying to catch her? I mean yeah I can use my telepathy to find her but it would be easier that way." She kept running on through the forest, being as loud as possible to lead Tess forward. She strained to telekinetically move the branches around her to make more noise. "Even with your powers you won't be able to lose me within this forest." She yelled loud enough for Tess to hear. "I'll get you eventually, and I'm never one to quit." |

Tessa heard them, Tessa heard them loud and clear. Her eyes widened and her breath started to quicken again. This was not how she's wanted to spend her day. Squirming to her feet and sprinting off like a hare she wove through the brush and branches of the forest, until almost everything was a blur. They're gonna get me, and take me to wherever they work for is, or they'll do to me whatever they do to those kids that never come back. I need to run, run and run. Her feet crunched and flung the leaves underfoot in her rush. Anything to get away from her pursuers. In her fleeing she failed to notice a number of things in her path, jumping last minute over branches and logs, and stumbling over roots and small plants., until a root caught her foot and she fell onto the forest floor. Everything halted in her mind as she got up and felt to see if she'd hurt herself. The smell of blood filled her nose and her hands became covered with gloppy blood as she felt her face. Her nose was bleeding, not because she'd fallen but because she'd over exerted herself. Sitting down she wiped it on her sleeve. But when all was still and she took a breath, the distant trample of the other two began to resound loudly in her head. She couldn't sit and wait, it wasn't safe till she lost them. Whether she was hearing things or not, running was the best thing to do. But- they couldn't climb tree's could they. She could head in the same direction and stay up in the treetops, it was much safer. Getting to her feet and Hauling herself up the nearest tree trunk, she moved the branches so that she could see the way ahead. It'd slow her, but hopefully she'd move fast enough. Swinging, and climbing around from branch to branch she managed to get started again. And so with distant footsteps haunting her she moved desperately across the upper canopy of the forest. |

Natara kept on, making her presence known and making it as large as possible. She had to get this kid eventually. She really wished she could be elsewhere, and that this child wasn't so resistant to capture. Natara decided it would be better to mentally mess with the girl rather than yell out demoralizing things. She probed for Tess' mind and began forcing thoughts into her head. "There's no point in running, you'll only get lost and die out here all alone. You should just stop and come quietly." Natara noticed that the girl had stopped for a moment. She knew this could be her only chance, she sprinted forward, but without luck, the girl started running again. Plan B it is then; just run her into Cathriss. She continued to run and soon came within sight of the girl; she was in the trees now. Natara groaned, "Amiley, who's idea was it to catch this kid anyway? They should have sent someone faster than us to catch this one." |

" I don't know if we have anyone faster. We'll just have to continue what we're doing." said Amiley, near out of breath. Tessa stopped of a moment in the tree's, she heard her pursuer say something. "There's no point in running, you'll only get lost and die out here all alone. You should just stop and come quietly." The words were vivid, and she couldn't see the girl, they seemed to come from a strange place, she couldn't tell if it was her mind or outside. Nonetheless She continued jumping from tree to tree, until they got thinner, and the ground became closer. Jumping down from the branches she continued her way, and found herself in a clearing. A large mansion stood in front of her, surrounded by crumbling brick walls and covering in ivy vines. She could hide inside it, she knew, but something seemed to stop her from doing it. Running past the stone wall she went around the house and past into the other side of the forest. She had a feeling that she wanted to get away from the house, that it was somewhere she didn't want to be. She felt constricted. And then she couldn't move. Her feet were glued to the ground, and as she struggled she found that she had stopped right at the rink of the stone wall that ran around the back of the Manor. Maybe they wouldn't see her, as she stood behind the house. Her legs could be tired, they may not have wanted to go farther. She tried to think calm and rational thoughts, but she wasn't used to this. No matter what happened to other children, and what happened to Greave, she never did expect it to happen to her. |

"She has to be at the manor by now, at least we finally got her." Natara slowed her pace a bit, tired from all the running. She kept on probing her mind, just making sure Tess wasn't running again. She could feel the little girl's fear. She actually felt bad for her a little. "I better not develop a soft spot for her," Natara spoke quietly to herself, "eh, she probably hates me anyway." She walked around the manor to where Tess was hiding. "Told you we'd get you." She picked the girl up and brought her inside the manor to the living room. "Welcome to your new home, just so you know, escape is impossible. I'm not in charge of getting you situated, so you can see Verlan if you like. He's the one wearing an apron usually." She walked off into the kitchen and scrounged for some food. Edited by Natara Hakim, Jun 16 2008, 04:31 PM.
