Quinn Teraphal

Quinn Teraphal
Nicknames Sunshine (by her uncle Trent), Freckles (by the rest of the adults she knows. She hates the term.)
Age: 11
Voice: Quinn has a soft, sweet voice. It sounds a little younger than her real age, until you realize that her vocabulary is fairly wide. Sometimes she'll use a word wrong, but for the most part she knows her stuff. One has to listen fairly hard to hear her if there's a lot of background noise. When she's shouting, which isn't a common occurrence, she sounds a little more grown-up.

Power(s): Quinn has telekinesis, but the strength of her power depends on which materials she is attempting to move. Lighter solid things like paper, or small amounts of liquid, can be moved easily. On the other hand, heavy objects like metal or large quantities of liquid are more difficult for her right now. Usually moving lighter objects (up to about 20 lbs) doesn't have much effect on her. She can move about 70 lbs, but moving heavy objects with her mind leaves her in a daze. She's tried moving things that heavy two or three times, and only managed to budge them an inch or so. Pain (and I don't mean just a little pinch; one would have to step on her toes or something) or a full night's sleep are the only ways to snap her out of it that anyone has found so far - though her family members are the only ones that have tried in her current state ((which is to say, before all the roleplay happens)). Distance from her doesn't seem to have any effect on how well she can handle an object; just weight and size.

Quinn also has to concentrate to move things with her mind; she won't converse or notice what's going on around her in great detail while she's using her powers. She has a tendency towards clamping her hands over her ears while she's doing so.

She can also find hiding places fairly well, though I'm not sure this would count as a "power" so much as it is just a strength (and sometimes weakness, if she hides at the wrong time or place).

Physical Appearance: Quinn is a pale freckled girl, with brownish-red hair. It's long and fine. She keeps it in braided pigtails most of the time, therefore it's usually curly and wispy when she takes them out. Her eyes are big and light brown, with long but straight lashes. She has very thin eyebrows. Her mouth and nose make her look a little mousy, and her small frame enhances that impression.

Clothing: Quinn has a pair of sneakers that were originally white. They have grey scuff marks all over them, the laces are fraying at the ends, and they say "JESSICATER" on the bottom in permanent marker, but she wears them anyway. Her tastes lean towards green and blue clothing. She most frequently wears a forest green sweater and dark blue jeans. She also has a knee-length black jumper, a white t-shirt with a cartoon cat depicted on the front, and a pair of light blue jeans that are a little too big for her right now. ((Note: Pre-kidnapped, she has a much larger wardrobe, but this is what I plan for her to have on her person when she's kidnapped)).

Personality: Quinn is shy, naive, and sheltered. If you're nice to her, she'll warm up to you quickly. Otherwise, she stays shy and may begin to act coldly, depending on the situation. She's book-smart, but not street-smart, and likely to give in to peer pressure.

On certain topics, however, she'll do a 180 degree personality turn and become completely stubborn. This is usually about things like her cousin, the proper treatment of animals (except fish; see dislikes), and her opinion that White Fang is the greatest book to ever grace the planet.
Likes: Quinn likes to read. She reads any work of fiction she can get her hands on. She also likes waltzing, but doesn't get a chance to do so very often. Although her parents warn her to only use her powers in emergencies, she likes to practice using them when she thinks that nobody is looking. She mostly uses them to score an extra cookie for desert.
Dislikes: Quinn absolutely despises live fish. Anything else slimy or smelly won't phase her too much, but she firmly believes that live fish belong either in the ocean far out of her sight, or on a plate being served for dinner. She also hates mean people in general, grown-ups that treat her like a stupid child, and has a slight dislike for boys (but will suffer their company if there are no girls she likes around).
Family: Quinn lives with her mother, Chelsea, and her uncle Trent in a small house. Her mom is an accountant, and her uncle retired early (he's about 50), but isn't rich. He's just a miser with simple tastes. Chelsea was adopted, and is significantly younger than Trent (27). She had Quinn at 16, and though the father knew and loved Chelsea, he only knew Quinn as a baby and toddler. He sends child support from somewhere in America, and that's all Quinn knows about him.

Quinn's cousin (though they act more like sisters), Jessica, is an adult going to college in another town. Jessica was the first other than Quinn to find out about the powers.

History: Quinn was spoiled in her first few years of life. However, when she was seven, there was a nasty argument in the family, and Quinn's mother, uncle, and cousin moved to Greave. They had never heard of the place; there was just an empty house and a family that seemed to want sell the house rather badly. Nobody was suspicious of this at first, but they soon heard of the kidnappings. They kept Quinn close; Jessica was clever and strong enough to fend for herself, having been in martial arts from an early age.

Quinn was home-schooled from the start, though she was sent around to other family's houses for social interaction, which didn't usually happen because she's shy. It was probably for the better. Quinn wasn't to tell anybody about her powers or use them in public. Some kids may recognize her, but mostly as the silent-as-a-ghost bookworm from their playgroups, or the one that wanted to play Moby Dick or White Fang. Usually she was turned down, but she would temporarily come out of her shell if someone offered to pretend to be animals. Except fish, because as mentioned earlier, Quinn thinks they're gross.

Parents and store clerks are more likely to recognize Quinn, since her mom and uncle are both very outgoing people and keep Quinn close by.

Thoughts on current predicament: When Quinn is kidnapped, she'll be confused and worried, but probably won't try to escape...yet.
Other: Quinn tries to get as much "quiet time" as she can. She frequents little hiding places where she can practice using her powers. She also carries a well-loved copy of White Fang with her more often than not.

Watcher: (Quinn's eventual Watcher, depending on how things play out) Kendra is a pale thirteen-year-old girl, with boyishly short jet black hair and bright, watchful hazel eyes. This girl can turn translucent and blurry - but not completely invisible - a useful skill in the dark or when Quinn is using her telekinesis. She can make tiny illusions, like a mouse scurrying by, but they don't last very long. She can also run pretty fast. She usually wears uniform greys and blacks, and is a great thief.
Character Played by: Candy (if someone's taken that already, I can change it; this is my first character here)
