Nea Stimry

Nea Stimry
Nicknames Snip, Oddy.
Age: 17
Voice: Even, not entirely unusual. She has a curious accent, as she was born in the States, but grew up in Greave. So long as Odion is with her, her voice has all manner of personality and quirks within it.

Power(s): Nea isn't sure if she, herself, has any powers at all. So long as Nea and Odion are together, they can communicate telepathically with each other, and occasionally, other animals. Odion can fly, and the larger he grows, the more aspects of his nature is revealed to him.
Now, if Nea is more than five miles from Odion, she shuts down. Odion cares for her mind when she is in that state, but if they are separated for a great distance, and for a long period of time, the consequences are assumed to be either permanent damage, or death.
Nea is starting to discover odd proclivities, weird tricks, but nothing of power. Not yet.

Physical Appearance: Standing at a reasonable 5’5”, Nea is hardly intimidating.
She's managed to fill out modestly, being gently curvaceous, though not stunning.
Due to how physically intense taking care of Odion is, she's grown fit, though her muscles aren't particularly noticeable.
She keeps her hair boyishly short, due to the practicality of having short hair: less grease, won't get in her face when she flies, etc. Her hazel eyes stand out attractively, framed by a small smattering of freckles along her cheeks and the bridge of her nose.
Clothing: A plain green v-neck shirt layered over a black turtleneck sweater, stretchy jeans, and work boots that are two sizes too big. She also owns a pair of goggles for flying, and some gray gloves with the fingers cut off.

Personality: Nea is curious, and enjoys learning new things. Most of her sociable energies are spent on Odion. She is a hard worker, partially due to her grandmother; in order to repay her, Nea does all of the strenuous work around their house and garden, and takes care of her grandmother. Nea's grandmother imparted all of her knowledge to her, from cooking and cleaning, to caring for oneself, reading and writing, and several pearls of wisdom as well.

Likes: Flying, drawing, singing to herself, listening to music, adventuring.
Dislikes: Loud noises, fire, splinters.

Family: When she was a year and a half, her mother Elaine, and her father Gregory, left her in the care of her grandmother, Clara. Nea has no siblings that she knows of, and was never put in touch with her extended family on either side.

History: Nea was born in a rural state somewhere in the north west region of the U.S. Washington? Oregon, perhaps?
She didn't remember.
For the first year of her life, Nea was the ideal baby. She never cried, never got in to any trouble, and was content to do... anything. Or nothing.
She had never laughed, nor cried, and didn't respond to her name.
Her parents feared that she was Autistic, but soon learned that Autism would have been a blessing compared to what was actually the case.
On her first birthday, a present arrived for Nea; a small wooden box wrapped in brown cloth. Her parents set it on the kitchen table, calling Nea's grandmother to ask if she had sent it.
Had it been any other item, on any other day, Nea would have sat peacefully in her highchair, content as could be.
However, it was not just any other item, and it was not just any other day.
"Hey mom," Nea's father was on the phone, while her mother went to look for the address book. Someone had to have sent it!
"Yeah, I know, she's turning one, we are excited-- but mom, ah, listen" while her father was distracted, Nea skillfully climbed out of her highchair, and onto the table, where the small parcel rested.
"No, nothing's wrong, but-- did you send her a present? No no, we did get the card, she loved it, but did you send her anything else?" While her father was distracted, Nea made use of her time.
Nea grasped the box firmly in both of her small hands; the box shook, rattled, seized, and quaked the moment her skin had touched it.
While Nea struggled to open her very animated gift, her father finally begun to turn around, still holding the phone against his ear.
"It's like... a little wooden box, and it didn't have any return address on it, but..." He paused, taking in the sight before his eyes.
For many parents with small children, turning around to see their child getting into something is just a part of everyday life, but for Nea's father, this was tremendously bad.

There she sat, the box left beside her small feet, holding a crawling, chirping... thing. No bigger than a field mouse, it cocked its head while staring at Nea. It looked like a winged, furry quadruped. Its wings were sticking to its back, and it seemed clumsy and awkward.
Of course, her mother had immediately tried to rescue Nea from what was conspiring, but the tiny creature shocked anyone that tried to touch it, save for Nea.

Now, her parents were panicking, though Nea couldn't discern what they were saying-- she hardly heard them at all. All of her attention was on this creature. It was as though she had woken up from a deep sleep, and thoughts were occurring to her-- smells, sounds, colors, tastes, sensations...
For the first time in her life, Nea laughed-- a surprised, innocent, wonderful lilting of her voice. Her eyes turned from the creature in her hands to stare directly into her father's eyes. Nea had a light-- a liveliness-- about her, one that had been curiously absent until that point.

The creature had started out small, but it grew as Nea did, and beyond. Whenever Nea was far from it, she would shut down. It seemed to be autism, like she went nearly brain dead, until she and her dragon-creature-thing were reunited.
The thing, named Odion (Nea's first word, of course), somehow unlocked Nea-- her soul, her personality, her mind-- whatever essence that she couldn't express.

Six months went by, and the Stimry family only grew more secretive. Eventually, her father and mother were too fearful of trying to hide such a large thing in their home. They had to move. After only a few months, it was two feet tall, three feet long, and its wingspan was getting proportionately large as well.
Nea was growing at an alarming rate as well-- not physically, but mentally. She didn't speak a word after her first utterance of "Odion," but her mother could see that she was thinking, communicating with That Thing.

Thus, their move to a more secluded area of the world-- Greave. Nea's grandmother lived nearby, and she would be the type to accept that sort of thing, reasoned Nea's father.

(Un?)Fortunately for Nea, her parents "left for work" one sunny morning, and didn't return. They knew they weren't connected to their daughter like a conventional family should be, and her grandmother hardly raised an eyebrow at the progressively growing creature. They left some money to her grandmother, and fled.

"Now, love," her grandmother had murmured that afternoon, after reading her parents' explanatory note, "I don't know what kind of magic is about you, but you're my grandbaby, and we've got to stick together."

Thoughts on current predicament: While she misses her grandmother, she knew this sort of thing would happen eventually. Well, not that there was anyone else with curiosities like hers, but that her secret life at her grandmother's home couldn't last forever: Odion had been hinting towards some kind of change for a while. Nea is tentatively excited, as the new world of

Other: Odion is essentially, though they haven't exactly articulated it yet, a manifestation of Nea. He has his own thoughts and opinions, but Nea causes him to exist. Without Odion, Nea is basically trapped in her body, and her mind shuts down completely. I don't know if that makes any sense... ah... yes. Once I can get some sketches of Odion, I'll try to give him a good physical description.
