Cerri sat on a swing, her short blonde hair hanging over her eyes as she drug her feet through the sand. She moved the seat with her feet, though she never picked them up to go into a full swing. She didn't feel like swinging, she just wanted to sit there and think. For the first time in a while she had left the house without telling Gladys where she was going. Gladys let her go anywhere she wanted, as long as someone Gladys knew was going with Cerri. Gladys was a lot like all the other parents in this town, she was over protective of her children, even if the only two she had were adopted. Cerri was glad she'd been adopted by Gladys, but was sad it was in a town like this. She'd heard of the disappearings and she was uncertain as to how they were coordinated. She knew it had to do with the way the children were, because only certain children were taken. And food was taken for the kids, so the kidnappings weren't from people that wanted to kill you. Would she herself be kidnapped? She hoped not, she didn't want to be taken from Gladys. She doubted that she'd be taken, though. Who would want a scrappy little thing like Cerridwen? She had a whispery voice, one that was hard to here. And she inflicted pain on accident. She knew one thing was for sure, if she was taken, she wouldn't be taken voluntarily. That would be one moment in time when she would gladly take her power and wield it with the power that would make her namesake proud. She shuddered, thinking about purposefully inflicting her power on someone. She couldn't physically hurt someone, she had figured that out. Her power….it was odd. It focused on the mind, made someone think that there body was hurting incredibly. She could do anything she could think of, and maybe that was a bad thing. She could give someone a stomach ache, or make them think that their ankle was broken. Cerri sighed, staring down at the ground again. These thoughts were just making her feel worse about herself. She twisted the swing, leaning backwards and lowering her hands so that they wouldn't get hurt by the metal chains. She turned around and around, twisting until she thought she might be sick. Then she lifted her legs off, the ground, turning them so that her knees touched and her feet were far away from each other, and felt the swing twirl until it stopped with a jolt, and started turning the other way. Cerri kept her eyes closed the entire thing, breathing deeply and giving herself up to the little rush that always followed the little swing twirl. It was fun and it calmed her down. She stopped short, slamming her feet down and looking up at the sky. Dark. The sun was setting and dark clouds were coming out. It would rain tonight, she was certain. She also knew that she needed to get home soon. She didn't want to make Gladys worry. |

"What a lovely assignment." Natara quietly complained to herself, watching Cerri from afar. "Plenty of things I hate on this one, kids and pain. Darn kid will probably put me in the emergency room before I get her to Cathriss. How should I go about this one?" She asked herself, and her mid answered with a flurry of possibilities. After cutting the bad stuff, (Such as shoving a sack over her head and making a run for it, writhing in pain all the way to Cathriss) she came to the idea of lying to the girl. "I could just tell her that her parents were in a car crash, and were transferred to a hospital in Edinburgh, and that I was friend of the doctors or something, then tell her that I'd be bringing to Edinburgh after picking something up at my 'house'. If that doesn't work I can just tell her the truth and see if I can snag her that way. Though I doubt this will go good. Hopefully my conscience wont get in the way." Natara slowly walked towards the girl on the swing, from behind, walking as quietly as possible. Her wardrobe was a bit more approachable this time, but only for this assignment; jeans, a t-shirt, and to Natara's dismay, makeup. She reached the girl but stopped for a moment. She thought to herself. I can't just go out and say it, I need to gain her trust first. She walked around the swing set and sat next to Cerri. "Hello, you're Gladys and Cole's Cerri, right? I'm Natara. How are you?" She forced herself to sound nice, when really she was terrified the child was going to fill her with pain. |
