![]() ![]() Open to one character A perfect night for exploring, or potentially trespassing. Kuristoph did not know if this land was owned by anyone in particular, but the man he paid to fly him here on a personal aircraft didn't seem to object. It could just be that the man was simply overpaid since Kuristoph didn't quite have a baring on what was a fair rate for services yet. Still, once he saw this particular skyland on his airship ride to Earthstar he had to come. It had the most beautiful lake that looked so tranquil and peaceful to him. Plus it was abandoned as far as he could tell. It would be the perfect place for him to swim without disturbing anyone. "Thank you Pim for this blessing," Kuristoph muttered to himself whilst floating on his back in the water. The fact that he is not wearing any clothes, as most Nokken would while in the water, is the main reason he sought this place out. The other reason was to find a place he was sure not to find another Nokken. Just better to avoid running into anyone he once knew. Edited by Kuristoph, 29/04/2018 - 10:00 pm.

Moments after swallowing his food, a bite of food from something else entirely was offered to him. It was new... so naturally he couldn't resist. Plus it would be rude to refuse it, so naturally he had to take part. With some restraint, he leaned in to accept the offer, eyes widening at the texture alone. The skin was so crisp and offered much for his tongue to enjoy. It reminded him of how the creatures without scales back home felt in his mouth when cooked. "That was delicious, wow," Kuristoph declared, covering his mouth still from when he was chewing so that he wouldn't be rude. Mostly because eyes were sort of on him. Especially from the back of the restaurant, down the hall into the back-room where eagle-like-eyes peered onto the "couple" with what some would personify as a grin. More specifically, an expression of joy dawned the waiters face when Angeles' offered Kuristoph food. He felt that perhaps that he didn't need to offer any help and that love itself wasn't dead. It gave him hope and a sudden urge to contact someone he still thought about even long after it all ended for them. "Thank you, I appreciate it, would you like to try mine too?" Kuristoph asked, extending his fork without really waiting for a response. |

Angeles was glad he ended up liking the firebird, seemingly as much as the unicorn. It was a small personal victory, to what end and what competition ne didn't know, but ne was the one who had brought him a little joy, and that felt a bit like winning. Ne took nir fork back with a smile and went back to eating, intent on letting him try some dark meat next to see if he, like many, had a preference one way or another. But before ne could, Kuristoph asked if ne wanted any unicorn, and offered nem some before ne could answer. Ne had had unicorn before, many times, various ways, and was going to tell him that, to tell him to enjoy his unicorn and that ne was fine. But he wanted to share. Ne stared at the piece with the eyes of someone lost and bewildered, before settling slightly and answering, "I'd love some, thank you." Ne leaned forward and took the bite off of his fork, careful to use nir teeth and not messy up his fork with nir spittle. Ne then leaned back and chewed thoughtfully. It was good, ne could tell butter was used in its preparation, which was always a good choice in nir mind. It was savory, and indeed very tender. An excellent cut prepared wonderfully, ne would have to give nir compliments to the chef, and thank the waiter for making the selection. After ne swallowed ne smiled a bit and looked down at nir firebird, getting back to cutting into the dark meat. "Amusing how we came here for lunch and ended up with dinner," ne said, finally cutting a piece and holding it out. "Here, this is called the dark meat, it's a bit different from the white meat, a lot of people like one over the other, you can see which one you like more." |

Another new experience was offered on a fork once more. It was the same problem as before, but thankfully had the same solution: to enjoy it. So, in short, he did. This time with less hesitation. He knew the answer to the equation, and this time wasn't afraid to apply it. But the reaction was oh so very similar. With closed eyes and a smile with every chew, several sounds of joy escaped his throat. His mouth was too busy to let much come out of it, so his throat had to serve as his means of expressing sound for now. "That was good too," he declared, immediately looking down at his steak for a dark meat of his own... only to be met with disappointment. It wasn't fair. He had enjoyed two new things from her plate, but only offered one to her. His meat was inferior due to only having one thing to offer. This was an injustice that could not stand. That was until he saw his potatoes. He didn't know if they were good or not yet because he hadn't tried it himself. But that didn't matter. He owed her a bite, and a bite she would have. Or at least a bite she would be offered. "Here," was all he said with a smile, extending a bite of potatoes out to her. "Mine... doesn't have dark meat, so I can't share, but I have this," he said with a slight bit of shame, as if he were offering an inferior experience for the one she gave him. |

He also enjoyed the dark meat as well, and didn't express that he liked it more or less. Maybe he was that rare person that liked both, which made nem smile in amusment. That was all the bites he was getting though, as ne had no more to share with him as far as 'new' went. Ne expected that dinner would continue from there, but looked up when he somberly offered nem another thing. The bewildered expression appeared again, looking at the potato, then at his sorry expression. He explained that his meat didn't have a 'dark' so he was sharing his potato instead. Ne smiled, gently almost, using nir fork to poke the potato off of his and then eat it, smiling in amusement. "You don't need to share with me just because I let you try some of mine, Kuristoph," ne smirked, "I live here, I've had this before, you're new, sort of like my guest. You get to be the one spoiled, I don't expect anything in return." Ne chuckled softly to nemself, cutting another piece of white meat and lifting it to nir lips, stating, "that was a delicious potato, thank you," and then eating nir meat, enjoying nir meal. Ne felt light and almost playful, and ne had no idea where this mood came from but it was enjoyable, much better than being somber and moody, and so ne was just going to go with it. |

"I know, I just take issue with being in debt to others," he explained briefly before turning to his food, trying the potato for the first time. It was delicious, not as good as the meat, but still great. "My family finds owing others, even with favors, to bring bad luck. A family who owes much will receive ill-word from Puezmie, the god of currents and deliverer of messages, from Jureo the god of family and ponds," Kuristoph rambled for a moment. "Um, I mean, it's basically bad luck is the humanish terminology for it," he laughed a bit at how complicated his family made it. His families beliefs were not common of all Nokken. After all he grew up in a small community that was a bit more religious and superstitious than most. "Thank you though, I greatly enjoyed Firebird. I will have to try to remember to order that in the future," he said before turning to his meal so that he didn't leave awkward superstition as the last conversation piece before he resumed eating. He had a feeling others did not look so highly upon those who were superstitious. |

Kuristoph admitted a superstition he, and to that extent his family, had about being in debt. It seemed an odd superstition to have and ne had many questions surrounding it. Did the value of the debt to be paid matter? What if one owed another a life, how would that be paid? Or was that one doomed to bad luck until the life-debt was trued up? As these question crossed nir mind, ne more or less zoned-out while staring at Kuristoph. Ne snapped out of it with a slight shake of nir head, in time to hear Kuristoph give thanks for the firebird. "No trouble at all," ne replied with a smile, trying to express that all was well, "I suppose then your plan is to pay for the meal since I paid for the clothes then?" At least, according to the pattern of debt owed, and his personal grievance with debt, that should be how it went. Ne flew him from the island, he paid for the airship, ne bought the clothes, dinner was the next 'debt' to be paid. It seemed fair enough, save for that yet unasked question about the fairness of quality of debt repayment. |

"I... Um, intended to, yes," Kristopher confessed, hoping that he wouldn't be met with resistance. In truth, he felt like he owed Angeles much more than dinner as lunch, but it was what he could offer. According to how he was raised he quality of repayment wasn't as important as acceptance of it. If a person rejected or complained about repayment then it looked just as bad as being in debt to begin with. His community was blessed with mostly decent people, so rejection was very rare. He had yet to personally experience it. |

"I see," ne responded. The two of them, well, ne had ordered a fairly pricy meal, and Kuristoph's had been selected for him, but was also rather expensive. Ne wished ne had known, ne would have selected something cheaper. Ne didn't know what Kuristoph's financial situation was, but from what he had told nem on the skyland, he didn't have an occupation that was particularly lucrative. "Don't force yourself if it's too expensive, we can split the bill this time if it will break your bank," and ne would keep in mind whose turn it was to pay for things, this back and forth of owing and paying debt, so as to not put him on the spot ever again. Ne silently went back to eating, pondering some thoughts and sorting them in nir head, like a tidy organized box, though ne found nemself easily distracted by things like, what ne was eating, the color of Kuristoph's eyes, the amount of other people in the dining room, how the light caught and flickered on the scales of Kuristoph's body as he moved, the waiter standing half-hidden behind a doorway watching them. Wait, why was their waiter watching them with such intensity? Angeles's utensils tapped against the plate as ne ceased eating and gave the waiter a curious, confused look with a single brow raised, before going back to nir food with a small cough and shake of nir head. "So after lunch, what would you like to do?" Ne had a feeling they could explore all of this ship within a day, and there was likely at the very least three days to kill. Then an idea dawned on nem and ne looked up smiling, "you said you were interested in gods correct? Ships like these usually have a small place of worship for people to attend for ceremony, would you like to see if they have one?" |

"No, I have it. I usually make a lot of money whenever I stay at a port. Much more than I need since I can usually catch my own food," Kristoph assured, not quite letting Angeles know that his income was quite fluid. Fluid in that it is constantly being spent and earned, but never saved. He wasn't great with money. "That would be great," Kristoph chimed, excited by the prospect. "I mean, only if you want to," he added, not wanting to force her to do something because he'd like it. |

Kuristoph insisted that he had enough for the meal, and ne was inclined to believe that he was. It didn't change nir plans going forward, though. However it seemed that Kuristoph was keen on the idea of visiting the church, if they had one on board, and ne nodded, returning to eating nir food. "Very well, let's plan on doing that once we're done," ne had a feeling he would eat very quickly now, and ne found nemself even eating a bit faster. "I don't mind," ne responded to his concern, "I'm not certain which church will be here, but it will likely be devoted to the humanish divines rather than the Ekahuan rella or the Valkyrien gods. Still, it should be interesting nonetheless." |
