![]() ![]() Open to one character A perfect night for exploring, or potentially trespassing. Kuristoph did not know if this land was owned by anyone in particular, but the man he paid to fly him here on a personal aircraft didn't seem to object. It could just be that the man was simply overpaid since Kuristoph didn't quite have a baring on what was a fair rate for services yet. Still, once he saw this particular skyland on his airship ride to Earthstar he had to come. It had the most beautiful lake that looked so tranquil and peaceful to him. Plus it was abandoned as far as he could tell. It would be the perfect place for him to swim without disturbing anyone. "Thank you Pim for this blessing," Kuristoph muttered to himself whilst floating on his back in the water. The fact that he is not wearing any clothes, as most Nokken would while in the water, is the main reason he sought this place out. The other reason was to find a place he was sure not to find another Nokken. Just better to avoid running into anyone he once knew. Edited by Kuristoph, 29/04/2018 - 10:00 pm.

Kuristoph thought long and hard about what she had to say about iron and the evolution of common metals on the surface world. Iron, to his people, had very little use. But she shined some light on how they combined it with something else to make a stronger more reliable metal. One that didn't just erode away to uselessness from the very air around it. It was difficult to imagine, but he did his best. He also did his best to try and conjure up a response to her question about the kinds of metals his people used... but failed to find a way to tell her without feeling like he was divulging too much information. So he sat there in silence, eyes darting towards the water in shame that he could not share with her the knowledge that she was being so gracious to him with. Thankfully the subject changed, allowing him to become distracted (easily so) from his shame. The topic of flight was intriguing to him and she revealed it was much like swimming was to him. He had trouble imagining that it was so, but he'd have to take her word for it. Perhaps he could find a way to fly like she does one day just for the experience of it. But that would be an endeavor for another day. "Freedom is the correct word, yes. Nothing is as liberating as swimming in large open waters... even small waters like this brings a sense of belonging and liberation," He said with a smile, leaning back into the water again, eyes slowly drifting to his belongings to make sure that they had not fallen into the water as well. "I'm sorry I cannot share with you as you can with me... my people would, well, I fear I could accidentally reveal something that might not only get me into more trouble, but possible endanger them," Kuristoph apologized, trying hard to look her in the eyes while doing so. But failing. |

Kuristoph agreed that it was a free feeling for sure, then apologized for not being upfront with her admitting that there were certain things he simply couldn't share for the safety of his people. Angeles eyed him with a hard gaze, before lifting it from him with a sigh and leaning forward. "Kuristoph," ne began, "I come from a culture that has known war for as long as we have been a people, and in war there are certain decisions that need to be made by the people in charge in order to do what is best. Hard decisions, evil decision. I don't like it but it necessary, and what more, sometimes the result of, or the circumstances surrounding those decisions need to be kept secret, for moral if nothing else. "I understand if there are things you can't talk to me about. Don't feel bad about not disclosing them, alright?" Nir expression softened a bit at the end of nir ramble, and nir green eyes sought to look into Kuristoph's blue, to show nir sincerity, "don't ever apologize for protecting people." |

"Well, to be honest, it's more about protecting myself," Kuristoph admitted with an honest sigh. "While I would never intentionally do anything to harm my people, the punishment for revealing information about my people is quite harsh," he explained earnestly while looking away in shame. "Not that they can banish me more than they already have," he muttered with a sigh that held all the weight of his emotion, revealing more about his state of being than the words that escaped his lips. "I just fear that I may mess up again and one day they will send someone after me," he added, trying his best not to sound like he was being selfish about the situation... but the Nokken Empire can seem very cold and uncaring to those without any political or military power within it. "I'm sorry for rambling," Kuristoph apologized once more despite being told not to apologize just a moment ago. Edited by Kuristoph, 28/10/2017 - 09:12 pm.

Kuristoph admitted that his concern was more for himself than for others. Angeles focused nir eyes on him as he turned his head, causing his black silken hair to slide down his pale shoulder, the moonlight catching the crystalline drops of water that slid down his skin, rippling into the pool. The look on his face was tortured, twisting his elegant features beautifully. It made Angeles feel even smaller in his presence. How could ne ever compare to someone like him as a man? There was no hope, he was too beautiful. When he was finished speaking, Angeles sighed and sank down into the water a bit more. "You count as people," ne reminded him firmly. Ne inhaled deeply, opening nir eyes and looking at the sky, before dropping them down again to Kuristoph, "you're of the surface world now, though, are you not? It would be difficult, and unlawful even, to send someone after you to deal punishment for laws that don't belong to this land. You would be protected." Ne glanced to the side, looking off to the distance where nir homeland was, "there are people who would protect you from that injustice." |

Angeles' words brought Kuristoph to a pause. Specifically, nem referring to him as people. Of course Kurustoph knew he was people... but it brought him to an important epiphany. He mattered. He was important too. He could care about his own well being without shame. He didn't have to sacrifice his own happiness for others all the time. In fact, he could choose to provide for himself over another if he so wanted because he too mattered. Not that he would do so religiously. In fact, he probably wouldn't change his lifestyle by much in any way. But knowing that he mattered in that way helped him rationalize many dark clouds that he had been walking under away. He felt slightly liberated by the epiphany. "You are a beautiful person," Kuristoph replied in kind to Angeles with a smile, looking her in the eyes. "Thank you for your beautiful words," he said again, not quite using the word beautiful properly. But to him the word beauty and it's conjugations was closest to the Nokken word that meant what he felt right now. |

Kuristoph was silent for a long while, stunned, it seemed, his sapphire colored eyes still and staring. For a moment it made Angeles believe ne had said something wrong, and ne looked his face over, trying to determine what it was so that ne could clarify, or fix it. But then the nokken came back to himself and spoke. What he said, in turn, gave Angeles pause. He called nem beautiful. Ne blinked and shook nir head slightly at the surprise of the sincerity and context of his words. His eyes stared into nirs and he smiled. It was a breathtaking smile. It warmed Angeles' cheeks and ne forced nemself to look away. Ne had not, ever since finding out that ne was this 'in between' creature incapable of performing perhaps nir most important task in life, thought of nemself as beautiful. Ne was an ugly, undesirable thing, rash of emotion and irrational in thought. "Thank you," ne said finally, lacking the conviction nir words had held before. There was no hope to consider nemself a man in this nokken's presence. Ne almost felt defeated, and sighed, placing a hand to nir brow as ne thought, maybe I'm a woman afterall. Ne closed nir eyes for a moment before opening them again, looking at Kuristoph out the corner of one. "May I ask, if you're free to tell," ne began, lowering nir hand back to the water, "whereabouts in the ocean you had originally lived?" Ne was familiar with the tragedy of the sweetsalt cluster, the area of the ocean that nokken had lived closest to nir home. Ne was curious if he was among those first met by the surface people, or if his... exile was perhaps more recent and more foreign. |

"I'm afraid I actually have not learned to humanish name for my previous home," Kuristoph admitted shamefully. He was so torn up about his exile that he had avoided learning about the human terms for where he was from. "I could point it out on a map for you one day, but originally I was from a river colony. It was near what I believe you know as... Hakert? I may be remembering incorrectly," Kuristoph sighed in frustration. Words with meanings were easy to remember. But names, especially when they stem from non-humanish words were difficult for him still. He most despised names that had no meaning, or more specifically when the person didn't know the meaning of their name. It meant he had to assign meaning to the name as being, 'that person' which he didn't enjoy. "My colony became one with a larger government and we relocated from our original home there... I was only there for a very short while before I was exiled," Kuristoph sighed, not feeling all that great about the conversation piece. But much better about it than he would have been prior this conversation. |

Kuristoph admitted to not having a translation for the name of his home, but after some thought offered that where he had been from was very near to Hakert, though he also admitted to not being certain of that fact either. He spoke then of having to move from his original home to that area, though he hadn't been there long before being forced out. Ne could empathize, reminded of how ne had been forced to move after nir disability had been discovered, having to live in a new home with strangers, to learn a new culture and way of thinking. "I'm sorry," ne said simply, "I can see this is very hard on you, I shouldn't have brought it up." Nir eyes dropped to the water and moved back and forth slightly as ne sought for a change of subject. Ne avoided asking about his family, so instead moved to something closer to the present, "how do you find life here on the surfaceland, among humans and the rest of us?" Ne lifted nir eyes to him again as ne continued, "I don't mean the experiences of living outside of the water per se but, the culture, politics, foods and the like?" |

"No, it's fine. I imagine you are very curious due to how unknown my people are to most," Kuristoph reassured with a smile. This was not his first time answering many questions and he knew it wouldn't be his last. He only hoped he wouldn't eventually grow jaded from it and begin to resent people for asking questions. He loved learning things and wanted to love teaching people things too. "I must say I love learning about other cultures. Especially about the many gods worshiped. I had thought my people worshiped all of the Gods who bring water, but I continue to learn of ones never spoken about in my culture. I don't know if they are false or if my people betrayed them long ago for some reason. I wish to learn," he partially answered before realizing he had been talking all about himself and has not been asking her questions in turn. He felt like he was being very rude and wanted to talk about Angeles some as well. He was curious after all... especially about her wings. "So, um... your wings," he started, stumbling on his words a bit. "May I touch them?" he inquired, always wanting to ask an Ekahu or Valkyrie that but never had the gall to do so. He could have asked Zedj, but he had a feeling Zedj would take it further than he wanted. |

Kuristoph told nem to not worry about asking questions. Still ne dropped the subject and let him speak instead. He did express an interest in the cultures of the surface, particularly of the 'gods of water' as the scholars lumped them. He had believed that the nokken worshiped all the water gods, to find that there were those he did not know the names of excited him and brought him wonder as to how his people did not know of and believe in them. He was eager to learn. It brought Angeles' mind to the water god of the Valkyries, Shahem. While not a priest, Angeles could tell him what ne knew about nir god. He interrupted nir thoughts though by mentioning nir wings, and ne looked over at them, shifting them up before glancing back at the nokken, who asked to touch them. He seemed hesitant on asking. Maybe he had a bad experience. Ne knew that when ne had gone to human lands, many viewed nir wings with awe, due to the resemblance Valkyries had to the human's sub-gods, the archangels. Some had touched nir wings without permission, likely more than ne was aware of since feathers didn't have much feeling. Ne could see how a Valkyrie of more... Valkyrien contenance would take unkindly to asking to have nir wings touched. It would be like if someone showed a fascination with someone's arm. Angeles, though, shifted enough from nir seat and made nir way over to Kuristoph's side of the lagoon, swimming where the water was deep, before coming to a rest on the opposite bank then what ne had started at. Ne extended nir wing so that it was spread between them, half submerged for its sheer size; ne was barely able to see Kuristoph over the top. "Here, they're not so unlike fins I think. Feathers act much like scales," ne offered, then fell silent to allow Kuristoph his observations and scrutiny. |
