A perfect night for exploring, or potentially trespassing. Kuristoph did not know if this land was owned by anyone in particular, but the man he paid to fly him here on a personal aircraft didn't seem to object. It could just be that the man was simply overpaid since Kuristoph didn't quite have a baring on what was a fair rate for services yet. Still, once he saw this particular skyland on his airship ride to Earthstar he had to come.

It had the most beautiful lake that looked so tranquil and peaceful to him. Plus it was abandoned as far as he could tell. It would be the perfect place for him to swim without disturbing anyone.

"Thank you Pim for this blessing," Kuristoph muttered to himself whilst floating on his back in the water. The fact that he is not wearing any clothes, as most Nokken would while in the water, is the main reason he sought this place out.

The other reason was to find a place he was sure not to find another Nokken. Just better to avoid running into anyone he once knew.

"Oh, there are dire animals on the surface too? I mean, I suppose that makes sense..." Kuristoph pondered the concept for a moment while thinking about the many gigantic creatures of the water people once thought were simply dire creatures but turned out to just be a different species. "We have many large creatures of the Ocean, some are so rare we thought them to be dire but it turned out they were simply their own species. Most notably the Giant Squid," Kursitoph noted, remembering reading about the near panic that a Dire Giant Squid had caused to the Nokken community.

It was that day they learned the Giant Squid were their own species.

"It sounds like the Valkyrie have a very organized militia. Would you say it is one of the more advanced militias on the surface?" Kuristoph asked curiously, mostly to see which culture was more advanced at war than the other.

He assumed Humans due to their asserted dominance on the surface, but had a feeling it wasn't that simple.

"Dire animals and dire people, yes," ne responded with a smirk, teased a bit by the idea that the world was that different between the surface and underwater. He spoke about how for a while nokken believed giant squids to be dire squids, and ne chuckled, "we've made that mistake as well with some species," ne said, finishing nir drink and looking out the window. Ne then turned and began heading back to nir room as Kuristoph's questions turned to the military.

"I would say...," ne began holding out nir hand and counting on nir fingers, "valkyrie have the edge in military might due to a combination of thousands of years of ancestral warfare and the scientific might of the ekahu. Humans come a close second due to their technology, but they've only been a warring people in spurts through their history. I believe obagr would give us a run for their money if they were more willing to let go of tradition and modernize into today's world, and kobolds would be up there as well if they cared enough to actually fight. Other peoples are definitely warrior cultures, such as the ouriss, the ogres and the nao-kira, but they remain too primitive to pose a real threat."

Angeles lowered nir hand and rested it on nir hip, looking down the hallway, "admittedly I know nothing of the nokken military other than what was seen of the escort that had come along with the ambassador to speak to the ekahu, for boasting about being little better than obagr in terms of advancement, the military seemed far more organized than the waves of soldiers I've seen through themselves at Hakert's cliffs."

Ne smirked a bit, "for all I know it's a clever ploy, and the only reason the nokken people haven't taken over the world is because they're nice or something."

Kuristoph stood in silence for a moment, absolutely terrified of the conversation at hand as it was on a very sensitive topic. One that could not only put himself in danger, but Angeles as well. All it took was for a single spy for the Nokken to report back about this conversation. It could literally be anyone. The Ekahu waiter, the host, the shopkeeper, the talents of some Nokken to disguise themselves flawlessly into the societies of surface people is beyond his understanding. He has no idea if its magic, technology, the work of gods or perhaps a little bit of everything.

It was knowledge about his own people he didn't have access to. Only rumors and whispers about how crafty the secret operatives of his kind were. This, of course, led to his vivid imagination to run wild with the possibilities that started in somewhat realistic to completely outrageous.

Kuristoph looked over at the window for a moment, creating needless silence until he noticed her reflection. He stared at it in pause for a moment before he turned back over to Angeles. "You look really nice tonight, the moonlight really makes you glow," he said, being the first thing that came to his mind in a sincere tone since he genuinely wished to change the topic.

That was awkward. That was so very awkward...

Angeles wasn't an idiot and knew the silence meant something. Ne eyed nir companion and gave a knowing smile when he turned to complementing nem, but ne let it drop and instead looked at nir skin as the moon reflected off of it.

Ne knew the value of the element of surprise, ne also knew the cost of keeping that element. Ne would drop the topic and likely never speak of it again.

"Glow?" ne asked, then ran nir hand through nir hair, "ah, the feather's you mean. I don't remember if I told you about this already, but the black and white contrast was partially what my former family was famous for. The naming ancestor was Preshakutsyr, or Storm Bringer, as it's directly translated, and she was famous for her black and white wings. Many allegories were made about the contrasting colors, a light in darkness, a flash of lightning through storm, the dawn conquering night. The family was never considered the prettiest of males or most demur of females, but they made up for it in combat prowess. Except myself. I just made up for it by being angry," ne chuckled.

Kuristoph was so pleased that the topic shifted from something so sensitive. The tension leaving his body was clearly visible and he was obviously more at ease in a mere moments.

"Angry? I have trouble imagining you lose your temper. You've been so calm and understanding since I've met you. I mean, I can imagine you commanding fear in another heart with a simple glare and maybe two words, but angry? I just have trouble picturing you lose your composure," Kurirstoph rambled and complimented her with how she has seemed to have a commanding presence at the drop of a hat and always seemed so poise.

Granted he likely thought a bit too highly of her ability to do such a thing, but as previously stated... he has a very active imagination.

"If it makes you feel any better, I really like your wings. They're very unique, in a good way," he complimented further, happy to have met someone with such a unique trait.

Kuristoph stated that he had a difficult time imagining nem angry, and Angeles had to smile. He had never seen nem fight. Granted in a fight ne was less angry and more heated by the battle. Ne did remember the last time ne was angry, and recalled a downpour, and blood pouring into the ground water, with a crimson ekahu the only reason ne was able to be there that evening.

Ne huffed and shook nir head, the smile returning to nir face, "hopefully you'll never see me angry," ne said, almost teasingly, "but I had a lot of help to be as... composed as I am now. I had to let go of a lot of things. Some things I didn't want to let go of, like my identity, my pride, a good deal of my culture," ne frowned, then looked to him as he again complimented on nir wings and smiled, shifting so that ne could spread them.

"Soaring wings, not very good for fast flight, but excellent for long-distance at high altitudes," ne boasted a bit, "perhaps the only reason we were even able to make it to Renfield from that lagoon. They're also some of the largest wings of the Valkyrie, and broadest," ne reached and ran nir fingers over nir feathers, "meaning they take up a lot of space when not being used," ne joked, folding the wing again.

"It is true though, not many wings like it, even among animals. I can think of three similar ones and two of them are not native to the Jarahee continent."

"They remind me of a few animals from my home. Ones that are colored in vivid black and white patterns. One native to my river the humans call an angelfish. A small freshwater fish known for how beautiful they are. Sometimes they appear as yellow instead of white, but primarily are a white, almost a greyish-silver, and black. Another, not from my home is the Lionfish. Sometimes brown and white, sometimes black and white. Very venomous and has few predators because of that," Kursitoph rambled once more about his home, comparing animals he was familiar with to the colors of her.

"I didn't mean to compare you to animals, I just like the colors," Kuristoph apologized, not meaning to offend. "It's just, I don't look like anything. I'm just a grey blob with a bit of yellow. Even my eyes are grey. I look like a dead fish," he sighed with a smile. "I didn't mean to bring the mood down, sorry," he apologized further, going from afraid of offending to being afraid of downing the mood.

Kuristoph turned to his drink and took another sip, hoping that maybe he could actually get drunk from the sip so he could lighten up a bit more.

Kuristoph admitted that he could compare the colors to a few animals that he knew in the water, angelfish, lionfish, which was venomous and had few predators. He then apologized for comparing nem to animals and admitted that to him his own colors were considered bland, because he could not see then, and neither could other nokken.

Ne hummed and finished off nir drink, bending and setting it to the ground before gracefully standing and stepping towards Kuristoph, a single wing from nir back moving to encircle him and bring him closer to nir so that ne could look into his eyes, nir hand gently tilting his face ever so slightly up, "your eyes," ne began, "and the scales that adorn your body are both the color of depth. I see no dead fish here, just the sparkling waters of which hold a great mystery, only occasionally glimpsed by those who live above it. It is a clean color, pure, yet untouched by the trespasses of people. Like a spot of ocean, not yet discovered, glistening in the light."

Ne smiled a bit and touched nir brow to his, "you're beautiful, you just don't see it like I do," and with that ne uncurled nir wing and released his chin, taking a step back from him to allow him to do with that knowledge whatever he wanted, while ne bent to lift nir empty glass and filch a strawberry from it, placing it onto nir tongue.

"Oh," was all he could managed after Angeles commanding presence came at him full force. In a single motion Kuristoph could see nothing else but Angeles. He couldn't even see the ground as Angeles had denied him that right with her hand. Not that he'd want to look anywhere but in her eyes.

He paused for a moment after Angeles finished. He had much to think of, unable to understand her words entirely. Was there something about her enhanced eyes that allowed her to see things he could not? Did the water look that much different to her than it did to him? He had a lot of questions. Mostly he questioned if he found the water a beautiful sight or not. This question he could answer and the answer was yes.

He just didn't see the water when he saw himself. But he trusted her.

"Thank you," he finally said with a smile, blushing slightly from her basically commanding him to feel good about himself. "Meeting you is the best thing to happen to me since I arrived on the surface."

Angeles ate another strawberry and smiled at Kuristoph. Ne didn't want his thanks, but hearing that ne was the best thing he had encountered on the surface was flattering, especially since he had gone so far as to name himself in honor of a human who took him in when he was exiled.

"You're welcome," ne said sincerely, nir hand reaching for his hand, "come on, let's get back to the room, we have three more days on this ship, and I'm to intoxicated to figure out how to spend the rest of this evening on it."

Ne gently tugged on his hand to encourage him away from the observation deck and back to thier room, where food of a more savory variety awaited nem to help balance the sweetness of the dinner, nir drink, and the sentiment that was being shared between them.

Had ne known better, ne would consider the two of them to be courting, but Kuristoph had already expressed his people didn't do much of that and ne....

Well, maybe ne was courting a little....
