![]() ![]() Open to one character A perfect night for exploring, or potentially trespassing. Kuristoph did not know if this land was owned by anyone in particular, but the man he paid to fly him here on a personal aircraft didn't seem to object. It could just be that the man was simply overpaid since Kuristoph didn't quite have a baring on what was a fair rate for services yet. Still, once he saw this particular skyland on his airship ride to Earthstar he had to come. It had the most beautiful lake that looked so tranquil and peaceful to him. Plus it was abandoned as far as he could tell. It would be the perfect place for him to swim without disturbing anyone. "Thank you Pim for this blessing," Kuristoph muttered to himself whilst floating on his back in the water. The fact that he is not wearing any clothes, as most Nokken would while in the water, is the main reason he sought this place out. The other reason was to find a place he was sure not to find another Nokken. Just better to avoid running into anyone he once knew. Edited by Kuristoph, 29/04/2018 - 10:00 pm.

"It's part of the reason I was exiled," he noted, the electric shock dying down with his mood. "I have a bad habit of activating it when startled and I accidentally caused harm to my community. I can't really say much without divulging information, but it was... an unfortunate series of events. Like dominoes almost," he added, explaining at least a little why he was exiled from his home. The reality of it was that while working his shift he was started by a large sea creature that managed to sneak up on him. Startled by the sea-life he was not accustomed to from growing up near the river his entire life he panicked and defended himself on instinct. This in turn started the creature causing it to damage an Air-Relay. The creature was also known to be docile to the Nokken and there was no reason for Kuristoph to have been scared enough to respond that way. He pleaded it was an accident... but his words fell on deaf ears. "Is there anything else you'd like to know? I will answer questions the best I can," he spoke again after a moment of silence with a more chipper tone, trying to lift the mood. |

Kuristoph admitted after the display that it was this ability he had that was the result of his exile, he couldn't explain much of the details, other than it had caused a great problem with his people. Obviously not one great enough to warrant his death, but one that cost him his home. To some degree, Angeles could empathize. Nir disability to perform nir one true duty to nir family, resulted in nir 'death' and eviction from nir home and family. The corner of Angeles' lips turned down, but she didn't know what to say other than somberly and sincerely whisper, "I'm sorry." There was a moment of silence between them, after which Kuristoph perked up and asked if there were any questions ne had. He sounded happier, ne couldn't tell if it was sincere. Nir eyes searched his for a moment, before glancing at the nearby horizon to the small skyland and asked with concern, "do you have a way down from here?" |

"Oh, I do, well, I will," Kuristoph answered, pointing to his right out towards the edge of the Skyland. "I had hired a personal airship to lift me to the less visited Skylands. I saw this one had water large enough for me to swim in and asked the pilot to pick me up later. It's been about an hour now... so he should be back in five more hours," Kuristoph explained, sure that he had a sure-fire way off of the island if worst came to worst. Unless the man forgot about him. Or chose to leave him there for some reason. Both of these things never crossed Kuristoph's mind. He had yet to meet a truly evil person on the surface and still naively expects kindness as a sort of default. "Why, did you want to come with me? Or were you going to offer that I ride you? I tried that with an Ekahu once, it didn't work very well," Kursitoph explained, laughing about the incident he had near Clearwater. |

Kuristoph confirmed that he did have a ride away from the skyland, albeit one that would be there several hours in the future. He then asked after nir intention, wondering if ne had wanted to come with, or have him go with nem and ne smirked and shook nir head. "No offense to my Ekahuan relatives, but Valkyrie are much stronger than they are, I could carry you," ne assured, "but no, I was just planning ahead. If it came time for me to leave, I didn't want to leave you here stranded." Ne had assumed he had, somehow, arrived to the skyland by means other than magic or divine aid, but ne hadn't seen the instrument of his arrival, so was inquiring about his method of departure before the night got too late. Ne moved back to his offer to answer whatever question he could, and ne looked up at the sky and the stars, folding nir arms over nir chest. "I heard," ne began, "that nokken cannot see the color blue, is that true?" start basic, ne figured, ne could ask about him and he could ask about nem; simple easy questions, nothing that would get him into trouble. |

"I have heard that as well," Kuristoph answered with a chuckle. "But to be honest I have no clue what this 'blue' color people keep speaking of is," he added to his previous statement, answering Angeles' question in a roundabout way. "I suppose I wouldn't know if we do or not. I've never had any eyes other than my own," he continued, making his way to the waters edge before sitting down at it. "I've also learned from my experiences on the surface that our sense of smell is not the greatest. I learned that the hard way... but we apparently have amazing hearing compared to most other surface species," he elaborated to answer ner question in more detail. Of course his experience happened to be a time he spent in a bath house trying out a scented soap... a bit too much of a scented soap that overwhelmed the senses of non-nokken. He hasn't had the chance to accurately compare his hearing to others. But he did recall a number of times he had heard things others did not. Things that sounded very clear and vibrant to him. "What about you? Are Valkyrie senses any different than mine or special in any way?" he inquired, looking up at ner with an expression of genuine wonder. |

At first Angeles thought Kuristoph was confirming that the color blindness was true, but ultimately admitted that he didn't know, as he had never seen what everyone else called 'blue.' It made sense, ne admitted. If someone had told nem ne was blind to a color called 'sher' ne would never know. But there ways to test, not that ne had any of those ways with nem at present. Kuristoph continued and confirmed that his sense of smell didn't exist, but that his hearing was acute. He moved and sat down by the edge of the lagoon, and Angeles moved also, nir long white hair nearly brushing the grass. Ne adjusted nir wings in order to sit down beside him, and looked out at the reflection of the moon on the rippling water, glancing at him when he asked after nir own senses, and ne smiled a bit as his unbridled wonder. "Ekahu and Valkyrie have the most powerful eyes of any species of people," ne said, resting one arm on an upraised knee, "we need keen eyes to see the ground below us as we fly. Details very far away are clear to us where they would be lost on others. For Ekahu the balance seems to come in a lack of sense of smell, much like your own," ne almost teased, "Valkyrie retain ours, perhaps unfortunately," ne muttered, remembering Zedj. "Besides that and the semi-unique ability to fly, we're just like other people," ne smirked, "we just work harder to be stronger and tougher." It was nir turn for a question, and ne thought on it a bit more, "the nokken language, as you demonstrated, is made up of a series of clicks and whistles, but how did the nokken come up with the surface version. Wouldn't it have been easier to borrow words from other languages than to make up an entire one of your own?" Kuristoph possibly didn't have an answer to this one, after all it wasn't like it was his decision to create a language out of no where, seemingly just for the sake of keeping an identity entirely apart from the rest of the world. Or maybe that was just it. Still it would be interesting to get a nokken's opinion on the matter. |

"I can't say, not that I'm not allowed to. I honestly don't know," he admitted sadly, wanting to at least know the answer for her. "I can say that we name ourselves after things on the surface using the surface term for it. Usually things that the individual Nokken likes. Cloud, Tree, River, Wolf, Bear, and so on. Simple things usually," he explained, giving away the details of at least that. "I chose to name myself after the human who helped me during my days getting accustomed to the surface. He took me in, allowed me to fish for him as payment and taught me many things," Kuristoph explained, confessing that his name is simply the name of another. "Did you choose to call yourself Angeles? You said your real name is difficult to pronounce in Humanish. That means you also chose your name, right?" he inquired, curious if they were similar in that regard. "Do you mind telling me your real name... in your own tongue?" he added, inquiring further about Angeles specifically. At the rate things were going, the two could very well stay here the entire six hours asking questions and Kuristoph wouldn't mind at all. |

Another one he couldn't answer, if only for the lack of knowledge and Angeles nodded in understanding. Not everyone knew everything about the how and why of their own people. Ask Angeles to name every mountain peak in Hakert and ne would not be able to. Ask a human to name the capital of each kingdom and they would, most likely, not know. Kuristoph did say that regardless of having their own surface language, most nokken chose their names from things athat inspired them on the surface, names that were borrowed from other languages. His happened to be the name of the man that helped him after his exile. Angeles had to admit that seemed a more honorable namesake than 'tree.' Kuristoph then questioned nem about nir name, bringing up that ne had mentioned it wasn't nir actual one, and he asked to hear nir true name. Ne shook nir head a bit, "my... Valkyrien name is dead," ne admitted, "and has been for some time, sorry to disappoint. But my Ekahuan name is Ahatsequtar," ne said simply, not trying to emphasize its pronunciation for the nokken, "in humanish that would mean... White Eclipse," ne smiled, "a name given for the contrast of colors in my wings, so my father says. The wings are a trademark of the lineage I was once a part of." It was easy, or at least easier, now, to talk about what had happened. The 'why' of it was still a bit of a sore subject, but ne was working hard on not letting it affect nem. Those kinds of emotions were very unbecoming of a Valkyrie. Despite this, Angeles move right on to nir turn for a question, "how long have you been here, on the surfaceland?" ne decided to ask, something that was more personal to him rather than to his people. |

"White Eclipse... that is quite unique," Kuristoph complimented, not quite fully grasping the contrasting colors of the name since the word Eclipse was rather new to him. It was not used in normal conversation or documented very often in the books he has studied. He did however take her word on that the name represented a contrast of white and black. He could also tell that it would be desirable for a parent to name a child like that if they had said contrast like she did. "I have been on the surface for close to a year now. I was unsure for how long for many months since I was not taught how to keep up with surface time until much later. But I figured it out and worked out the math," he boasted. He was especially proud of that feat since for the longest time he was unable to answer that question for people. Well, at least unable to answer it in a way they'd understand. He could tell them in his native tongue, but it meant very little to anyone but himself. "So the world is still very new to me," he admitted, feeling a bit like a babe in a world where only adults lived before him. |

Kuristoph seemed impressed by nir name, calling it unique. Really 'Qutar' was a common name among Ekahu ne was sure that there were in the past and present albino or leucistic Ekahu that had nir name. Still, his compliment was nice and ne took it. He then answered that he had only been on the surface for about a year, proud of the fact that he now knew how to express such amount of time, as previously he had been unable to, and Angeles smiled, impressed, "you speak humanish very well for learning it for only a year. It took several years of schooling for me to get as fluent as I am, and I'm still learning." Ne chuckled, shaking nir head, "that must have been difficult for you though, to have a whole language and culture dumped on you all at once. You seem to have done well for yourself though." Ne fell silent for a bit, devoid of questions and dwelling on the thought of if ne were ever to be plunged into the depths and forced to live in practically an entirely new world with no preparation. Ne was very impressed by Kuristoph, and at the same time felt very sorry for him. "What's been your favorite thing so far of this world, then, since you've had a year to experience it?" ne asked, turning again to look at nir companion. |
