![]() ![]() Open to one character A perfect night for exploring, or potentially trespassing. Kuristoph did not know if this land was owned by anyone in particular, but the man he paid to fly him here on a personal aircraft didn't seem to object. It could just be that the man was simply overpaid since Kuristoph didn't quite have a baring on what was a fair rate for services yet. Still, once he saw this particular skyland on his airship ride to Earthstar he had to come. It had the most beautiful lake that looked so tranquil and peaceful to him. Plus it was abandoned as far as he could tell. It would be the perfect place for him to swim without disturbing anyone. "Thank you Pim for this blessing," Kuristoph muttered to himself whilst floating on his back in the water. The fact that he is not wearing any clothes, as most Nokken would while in the water, is the main reason he sought this place out. The other reason was to find a place he was sure not to find another Nokken. Just better to avoid running into anyone he once knew. Edited by Kuristoph, 29/04/2018 - 10:00 pm.

"That is your true test from her. To adapt to the life you've been given. You walk the line of both, but are neither at the same time. You don't fit the mold, you shape a new one. Those blessed by Nothandu are never destined to be like the rest, but rise above and change the way things are done," Kuristoph tried to rationalize, his attempt to make Angeles feel better about something he could tell bothered her in a way that he could. "The ones who are stuck in their ways, unable to adapt... they fear change. They fear things that are not like they are. They will always be skeptical of those who can adapt to the world and break molds," Kuristoph proclaimed almost as though he were speaking from personal experience. "I think you're perfect the way you are. Able to actively accept being either male or female. Perhaps instead of focusing on what you cannot do, you should focus on what you can do?" Kuristoph finalized, hoping that maybe his words helped in some way. He was trying not to be preachy, but it was difficult not to when he was of such great faith to many... many gods. "I am sorry if I spoke of a topic that makes you uncomfortable. I only wish to help," he apologized in fear that he may have hurt Angeles' feelings even more. |

A test? It was not what Angeles expected to hear after the revelation of nir infertility, and admittedly it garnered nir attention. Ne listened intently as he spoke of what it meant to be blessed by Nothandu, and ne could tell that Kuristoph held a deep love for his gods; a reverence and passion that ne had only ever really seen equalized in priests. Had he been a priest before his exile? The word 'perfect' was a bit of a shock and Angeles shook nir head in surprise at the utterance of it. He advised nem to maybe instead focus on what ne were capable of with the body ne had rather than what ne couldn't do with it. It was something that seemed like sound advice, but perhaps it was a cultural difference that was causing his failure to see how important it was, and how devastating it was to not be able to bear children. Maybe it was not such an important thing to his people, but ne would never be able to have children to remember nir name, honor nem in death, tell stories of nir deeds and keep nir memory alive. When ne passed, everything ne had done in life would just end, with no hope of continuation. So what could ne really do with this body that was so obviously lacking in the most important biological function it had? It wasn't like nir disability balanced itself out with an amazing talent or ability like Kuristoph's electricity. Ne was otherwise a normal Valkyrie, ne had worked as hard to be just as strong as nir peers. Ne had everything they had, all the opportunities and the same potential, save one. It seemed he caught on to the doubt ne felt in his preaching, as he concluded with an apology for making nem uncomfortable, and ne gave him another bittersweet smile. "I appreciate your offer to help," ne said calmly, "it's an old wound Kuristoph," ne reached back, pulling nir hair over nir shoulder and began to braid it, "like other old wounds, it sometimes aches when the weather acts up, but it's otherwise healed" ne said looking at him again, "it's just...," ne paused in both speech and the work on nir hair, and looked at the moon on the water. "Damning." |

"None but the gods can damn you," Kuristoph said with confidence, believing this to be true himself.... despite personally feeling otherwise on occasion. It was this belief that helped him keep his head high. Even if another condemned him to die, his spirit would be free. "I don't know what it's like for you in detail, but know that you are always being tested by the Gods. They would not make you different without purpose. It's up to you to find out what that purpose is. You have a hand guiding you down your path, even if you cannot feel it," he continued, doing his best to at least put a positive spin on her closed wounds. "But I think I've spoken out of place enough, and I'm sorry for preaching. My faith is one of the few things they could not exile me from," he explained, giving reason to why he was so passionate about his gods... or seemingly gods in general. It was unclear if he only worshiped Nokken gods due to his interest in the ones he believes his people had forgotten. Or forsaken. "Are you hungry by chance? I have some fish jerky in my bag," Kuristoph offered while nodding towards his belongings. |

Kuristoph did not let off his pressure, stating right away that only gods could damn a person. Ne looked over at him, remaining silent until he apologized for overstepping his bounds. He was right though; he couldn't know what it was like for nem. Finished with braiding nir hair, and tying it off in a knot, ne tossed the plait over nir shoulder and looked again to Kuristoph who was offering nem food. Fish jerky, interesting way of putting it, why not just call it dried or salted fish? Ne looked over at the indicated bag, and glanced over at nir own belongings across the lagoon. Not that ne expected them to have gotten up and walked off on their own, but it was a precaution. "What sort of fish is it?" ne asked, not particularly hungry, but ne would share a snack for the sake of company and civility. |

Kuristoph could tell that he had overstepped his bounds earlier. He was a stranger in a way still and he presumptuously spoke to Angeles about what gods she may not believe in want from nem. While the offense was not overly expressed and obvious, the silence spoke volumes of how he had wronged Angeles. He wanted to make up for it, even if it was as simple as offering food. "I have Salmon and Tuna fish. I do also have eel... but it doesn't store well after being dried and needs to be stored in smaller chunks in a bag," Kuristoph said while making way over to his bag. He dug in and brought over a small potatoe sack that fit in the palm of his hands tied with a rope at the top and two long strips of dried meat wrapped in a paper material. "I have plenty, which would you like to try?" he inquired, offering Angeles food that he was most familiar with. Sea food. "I do have other food... but I don't think you can eat it. I've been told it's poisonous to those who live on the surface," Kuristoph admitted, feeling sorry for those who cannot enjoy some of the flavors of foods he has discovered while on the surface. "Oh, I keep the poisonous food separate from the food you can eat. It's carefully wrapped and stored in another part of the bag entirely," he tried to reassure... not wanting nem to think he had just tried to poison nem. |

Salmon and tuna. It had been a while since ne had any sort of fish, indeed, meat in general. Getting such perishable things to the skylands caused prices to be more than what ne could afford. Ne subsisted off of a diet of fruits, vegetables and eggs. Fish would be a nice treat. Kuristoph walked away and Angeles watched him leave, paying particular attention to teh way his muscles moved as he did so. It was very apparent to her that he was not a fighter, the way he walked alone showed that, but also because of which muscles of his body were worked more than others. It all painted an obvious picture to her: he was a swimmer, and that was all. He returned to her with a single bag, opening it up to reveal two strips of meat, and said he had plenty. Ne cocked an eyebrow, looking at the whole two strips of meat, then back at Kuristoph, uncertain that he knew what the word 'plenty' meant. Ne would take one, ne didn't want to deprive him of his snack food, especially if he had several hours still to wait for his transport. Just as ne reached for one of the strips though, Kuristoph also revealed he had other food, that was supposedly poisonous to surface people, and ne stopped and snapped nir eyes to him before nir fingers even touched the meat. He quickly assured that he kept the poisonous food separate from the rest, very separate. Angeles sighed and selected the one strip of meat and turned, showing that the other was Kuristoph's to have, and chewed on it thoughtfully as ne brought up nir knees and wrapped nir arms around it. Ne noted to nemself: always ask before accepting food from nokken, were ne to ever meet another one. Lifting a hand, ne removed the fish strip from nir mouth and looked to Kuristoph, "it's good, thank you for sharing with me." |

"Not to worry, I have more in my bag, and you've been excellent company. I've learned new things and you're very nice. I have no reason to relinquish food you could possibly enjoy from you," Kuristoph explained in a way that could be summarized in as short as, 'I like you. Here have fish.' Having given Angeles some of the dried fish, Kuristoph turned to the eel. It was one of his favorite foods due to eel being native to his particular river. It wasn't the same kind of eel, it had a different flavor, but the texture was the same. It reminded him of the simpler days when he was but a simple River Nokken living with his small family. His father was a priest, which was why he was so close to the gods. Not that he has ever spoken to them, not like his father. His mother had passed when he was young, which was when his father turned to the gods looking for answers. "How does it taste? I didn't use too much salt did I. I'm still kind of new to salting foods," Kuristoph inquired, curious if he, to Angeles' standards, salted it correctly. Salt was one of those things that Kuristoph found to be interesting about cooking food on the surface. It was used far more than it was underwater. For obvious reasons. |

Kuristoph caught nir silent gesture and assured ne that he did indeed have 'plenty,' and that ne was good company and source of knowledge, and sharing food was the least he could do. Ne gave him a skeptical look, still uncertain that he actually had plenty to share. Still, ne smiled, "I've learned much from you as well, thank you for sharing." Kuristoph settled down to eat some of what ne assumed to be the eel given that he described them as having to be stored in a unique way, and he asked nem how the jerky was, expressing an uncertainty of having made it too salty. Ne took the strip from nir mouth again and looked at the meat critically and thought for a moment. "No," ne said cautiously after a moment, looking over to Kuristoph again, "for jerky I think that it's appropriately salty. Besides, it's food that you have offered me in kindness," ne tilted nir head in a bow to emphasize the cordiality of what ne was saying, "it's excellent and it tastes like tuna." Ne smirked before sticking the jerky back between nir teeth and shifting to lay down on the grass, white hair pooling all around nem almost glowing in the moonlight. Ne folded nir arms underneath nir head, crossing one leg over nir nee and stared at the sky, gnawing on the meat casually. After just a second though, ne lifted a hand to hold the jerky and looked to Kuristoph, "is the sky important to nokken at all? The sun the moon the stars, clouds... any of that?" |

"It depends on where the Nokken comes from," Kuristoph answered honestly. "The sky, sun, and moon each play their role in my culture specifically. But the deeper the water the Nokken is from the less of an impact it has. Some Nokken live their entire lives without ever seeing the sky or taking a breath above the water," Kuristoph explained, feeling the need to elaborate further but feared that speaking much about the Air Relays and how they could allow for that to happen would be speaking too much on the subject. "Like many of the creatures of the deep, some Nokken can actually glow to create light," he claimed in an attempt to distract from the previous statement about some Nokken never breathing air above the water directly. He had a feeling that curiosity may cause questioning as to how that could be since Nokken do not breath water. "What significance does the sky have to Ekahu and Valkyrie?" he inquired before taking another bite of his eel. |

Kuristoph stated that it depended on where a nokken lived, whether or not the sky and the celestial bodies in it mattered to them. Nir green eyes sharpened when he said that some nokken live their entire lives never once breathing air from the surface. Ne knew he had spoken too much in that instance. He knew as well as he quickly continued on with the subject, stating how the deep-sea nokken adapted to glow to live in the darkness, much like his electrical shock. Ne did not speak on the matter. He changed the topic instead to nir people, Valkyrie and Ekahu and asked about the significance of the sky to them, and Angeles smirked. "It's a bit of a stark contrast between those people," ne clarified, "though Valkyries and Ekahu have lived as one as the Kuvare for a very long time, we manage to remain... mostly separate. "Despite the ability to fly, the sky doesn't hold very much significance to Valkyrie," ne revealed, "we are far more concerned instead with fire. Fire is, to us, the source of what makes a Valkyrie a Valkyrie. Fire is our soul, it feeds our emotions, gives us strength, tempers our spirits our wills and our minds. But, we do also think that the sun is the home of our primary god Uracher, and that he is always in the sky...," ne paused, "or, rather... we did. We used to believe that the sun and moon were the same celestial body, that when day turned to night it was as simple as the sun rotating and revealing its back as it passed the world again. "The Ekahu have long since proven that the sun and moon are different celestial bodies, and that there are other planets with moons as well," ne sighed, "science... seems to have a way of taking the edge of faith." |
