Darrien gave a small smirk when Lewis began to stare at him, open-mouthed. He was used to this response upon meeting people. He had rarely encountered someone with hair as colorful and wild as his own, and it was reasonable for someone else to be shocked by it. “Nice to meet you, Lewis. You too, Jiro,” he said with a nod towards the guitar player, though he wasn’t sure if he had noticed his entrance. “Yeah, me and Shock came into the forest to do a little camping and practice our contest skills.” he continued, walking over to sit down next to Lewis. “I was working on my back handsprings and Shock was trying to perfect his Signal Beam. We’re also out here looking for a partner for Shock to use in contests.” As Darrien was talking to Lewis, Shock noticed Sparky approaching. He looked at the Pikachu with a curious expression, which became a big smile. He ran over to meet Sparky halfway and greeted him with a big “SHINX!” (Hi!) “Shinshinx, shinx!” (I’m Shock, nice to meet you!) “Shinshinshinx shinshinx shinshi-” (Do you wanna play wi-) He stopped halfway through, staring past Sparky, noticing something in the bushes. He jumped back and took a fighting stance as a Budew stumbled into the clearing. Darrien continued his conversation with Lewis, but stopped when he noticed Shock get into a battle stance. He followed his gaze and noticed the Budew as well. “A BUDEW! That would be the perfect partner for Shock!” he said, getting a Pokéball ready. “I hate to be rude, Lewis, but I can’t pass up this opportunity.” he apologized, running over behind Shock. “Now, Shock, let’s show off those contest skills of yours!” Edited by JBCG, Mar 1 2011, 09:46 PM.

Ah, so this Darrien guy was an aspiring Pokémon Coordinator, was he? Well, that would probably have explained his... 'unique' color of hair. Coordinators were apparently always trying out new ways to stick out from the rest of the crowd. Sparky merely laughed at the enthusiasm which Shock expressed. "Pika pi pi pikachu!" (Whoa, you're pretty energetic!) "Pikachu pika pika pi." (Sorry kid, but I'm a little too tired to play.) It was at this point that Sparky realized that the Shinx was no longer paying attention to him, having found something much more interesting to look at. The Pikachu couldn't help but wonder whether this was one of the many electric types whom had a relatively short attention span. “A BUDEW!" Darrien said, a Pokéball suddenly appearing in his hand, "That would be the perfect partner for Shock!” The coordinator suddenly realized how rude he was being - attempting to start a conversation, and then cutting it short as something more interesting came along. Lewis was fully aware and understanding of the other man's feelings though - he was a Pokémon Trainer himself, after all! "Heh, don't worry about it. I understand." Lewis said to the coordinator as he watched him take a place behind his Pokémon. Wow, this guy certainly was enthusiastic about catching Pokémon, wasn't he. That thought reminded Lewis of something. Removing a Pokéball from his belt, the young trainer was quick to send out the newest addition to his team. Poochyena materialized from the energy which hit the ground. Unfortunately, it appeared as if the poor canine was still feeling rather weak from his most recent battle with Sparky. Nothing a Paryz Heal and some rest couldn't fix, right? ((OOC: Really sorry about the delay, man. I kinda got sidetracked by a few things. I'll try to post more frequently from now on.)) |

“Go, Shock! Start off with Bite!,” Darrien shouted out to his partner. Completely in sync with his trainer, Shock took off towards the small, green Bud Pokémon. The wild Budew appeared to be completely startled by what had happened when she entered the clearing, and had no idea what was going on. She had little time to react to the small, blue electric-type charging towards her, fangs bared. The sight of the little Shinx getting ready to attack would have been adorable to most, but the Budew was terrified; she had been affected by Shock’s Intimidate ability, and was too frightened to react. Shock rushed towards the grass/poison type and bit down on her hard before releasing and jumping back to his original position. To Darrien’s cheering, the Flash Pokémon gave a wink and did a backflip. As he did so, his turquoise and black fur let off a sparkly flash, a trait common among Shinx. He was showing off his training as a performer as well as a battler. As he refocused his attention on his opponent, he noticed that she was still shaking. It couldn’t be from his Intimidate... He then realized that his bite attack had caused her to flinch, and Darrien did as well. “Great job! Now, Spark while she’s distracted!” Darrien said, delivering commands. I know it’s not going to be very effective against her, but maybe I can affect her with paralysis, he thought. He watched with a determined smile as his friend and partner stomped his forelegs and static sparks began to grow from the gold rings surrounding them. Shock charged again as the sparks began to surround his body in a beautiful yellow glow. This time, however, the Budew was ready. The Bud Pokémon watched as the small blue Pokémon charged for her. She had recovered from the effects of his previous attacks, and stood her ground. Here eyes held a graceful, yet determined look. She waited until her opponent was a foot away, and with a simple sidestep to the right, dodged the attack completely, obviously catching the Pokémon off guard as it tumbled across the ground. She took the opportunity to launch an attack of her own, giving a short hop and spinning the bud on her head around and, a green ball of light at the fallen Shinx. Shock was regaining his ground after his tumble when he was hit in the back and fell again. The blast hurt very little, but he still felt a strange feeling over his body. He then realized that he was being surrounded by a pulsating green aura that was slowly draining his energy. Struggling, he regained his ground and felt the aura dissipate into several green beams that travelled back to the Budew. “Crap, Mega Drain!” Darrien blurted out, as he watched the Budew heal itself with the same green aura that had just sapped Shock’s energy. He looked back at Shock and saw his breathing becoming slightly heavier. He had taken some damage, but it wasn’t too much. “Hold your ground, Shock! We can do this!” |

The Budew prepared itself for another attack; the bud on her head began to glow white. “Quick, whatever it is, counter it with Signal Beam, Shock!” Shock responded with a yipp of understanding, his eyes full of determination. He braced his legs and opened his mouth, firing off a beam of beautiful violets, reds, and pinks. At that same moment, the Budew fired off countless numbers of glowing silver pins from her bud at Shock. The Signal Beam and Pin Missile collided in midair in a dazzling display of silvery violet sparkles. However, the blast sent both Pokémon backwards off their feet. “Shock!” Darrien called out, worry in his voice. The Shinx quickly got back on his feet and shook the blow off, focussing his attention back on his opponent. Darrien returned focus to the Budew as well, but they noticed something strange. The Budew had just gotten back up, but her entire body was glowing white. She began to grow in size and change shape. “WHOA! Look, Shock, she’s evolving!” Sure enough, the Budew was indeed evolving. After a few seconds, she stopped growing, and before Darrien and Shock stood a beautiful Roselia. However, she looked different from others. Instead of a red rose in her right hand and a blue rose in her left, she had a white rose in her white and a black on in her left. “Shock, we can do this! Let’s try out one of our contest combos!” Darrien called out. “Start with Dig!” Immediately, Shock dug underground, preparing for the attack. “Good! Now, SPARK!” The ground underneath the Roselia began to crack and spark. She was unsure as to what was happening, when all of a sudden, Shock burst out from underneath her, charged up and covered in electricity. She was pummeled with sparks and shards of earth, and tossed onto her back. Darrien saw this as the perfect opportunity. “OK! Pokéball, GOOOOO!” he shouted, hurling a ball at the incapacitated Pokémon. It struck its mark, and the Roselia was sucked into the ball. It fell to the ground and shook back and forth, back and forth... |

*CLICK* The Pokéball stopped shaking, and and with that, Darrien had obtained a new partner. He and Shock celebrated this a tandem back flip and victory pose, then rushed over to pick up the ball, releasing his newest team member from her confinement. “Rrrros-EEEEE-lia!” the small green Pokémon said as she popped out of her ball. “Welcome to the team! Now, first things first, we’re gonna need to think of a name for you...” Darrien thought aloud. Eyeing the poisonous barbs on her head, an idea popped into his head. “GOT IT! How about Thorn?” “Rose!” she responded, with a smile. “Great! Now Thorn, I’m sure you know who this is, but you haven’t been formally introduced. Shock, meet Thorn. Thorn, meet Shock.” The two previously battling Pokémon approached each other, and began chatting. “Now then, where to next?” Darrien wondered aloud, using the internet browser on his PokéGear. “It says here that there’s a contest held in Cerulean City next week! Oh, but you need at least 3 ribbons to enter... Oh, there’s one in Lavender Town in two weeks! We’ll take the bus there tomorrow and then practice, practice, practice!” It was then that Darrien remembered the two other boys that he met in the clearing. In all the excitement, he had completely forgotten about them. What were their names? Jiro and Lewis? He searched for them in the clearing, but it seemed that they had disappeared. “Hm, must have left during the battle... Oh well. Shock! Thorn!” The two Pokémon stopped their conversation, focusing on their trainer. “We’re heading back home for right now. We gotta get you guys healed up! You definitely did a number on each other. Back into your Pokéballs for some rest.” He called the two back into their Pokéballs, and with that, headed back out of the forest. |
