A Forest Hike

Beatrix looked around the forest. It was not the thick viridian forest, but merely one on the outskirts. Still it was a bit less clustered and full of natures beauty. She had chosen to venture a bit west first and roam through the forest. There were few Pokémon of catching interest for her here. She might look into catching a pineco perhaps. Fortress would be a good edition to her party if she could get one. But she was one who enjoyed her hiking and nature watch more than the catching. She continued to walk around, watching the bird Pokémon and a few bugs. Many girls were scared of bugs. Caterpillars and such. What was the issue? It was pointless to fear bugs, just give the poisonous ones some respect and leave them alone and you will be okay. Beatrix shifter the weight of her backpack. It was large and clearly not the dinky think most girls carried. She had a small tent, a sleeping bag, and some small other supplies. It was not too heavy, but many people might be panting with exhaustion by now. She was tough. She had spent so much time hiking and such with her parents she just grew that way. She had carried progressively bigger packs as she got big enough to handle them. Still she missed them. She hadn't done much wondering by herself. But she would get over it. Still traveling alone could get boring. But then again she wasn't really alone. Turtwig moved alongside her pleasantly stopping for a second to sniff something every now and again. She found it pointless to keep him locked up all the time. walking was more pleasant with a companion.

Through the vast forest walked a man and his tiny orange dinosaur companion. John had been entering and leaving the Viridian Forest frequently over the last week along with his Charmander, Disco Inferno, in hopes of finding trainers to battle against, or Pokémon to catch. The week had been long and very ineffective, to say the least. Not only had he not run into any trainers, he had also not caught a single Pokémon. Whether it be a Caterpie, or a Pidgey, it didn't seem to make a difference, he just couldn't zone in for the life of him. John began to whistle as he high stepped in an odd manner through the forest, with Disco mimicking his every step behind him.

Suddenly John heard rustling in a nearby bush, which caused him to cease whistling and he became perfectly still. Disco hadn't caught on so quickly, and as he marched on with his eyes closed, he managed to bump into the back of John's leg, before he fell on his rear end. John looked back and put one finger up to his lip, motioning for Disco to remain quiet. He then proceeded to point at the bush. Disco nodded in return, and the duo began to slowly and silently tiptoe their way over to the unsuspecting prey. When they finally got within striking distance, John began to rise up to a full stance, before he let out a loud yell and pointed wildly at the bush.

"DISCO! LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEE!"

The brown head of a Pidgey popped out of the top of the bush and looked directly in John's direction, and just in the nick of time. Right before Disco Inferno was able to pounce onto it's foe, the Pidgey went airborne and B-lined for cloud city. John let out a large sigh in disappointment before patting Disco on the scalp.

"Aw don't worry about it boy. It was my fault again. Probably should've stuck to my best weapon. STEALTH!"

As John let out another bellowing yell, Butterfree's and Pidgey's alike began to scatter from nearby trees and bushes, causing John to smack his forehead with palm of his hand, an action which Disco mimicked immediately. Just then, out of the corner of his eye he caught the sight a girl about the same age as him, dressed in clothes fitting to be camouflage in their situation. This was the moment he was waiting for. He had now found a possible opponent after the long week, and he wasn't about to go in all nonchalant about it. John took a deep breath before bolting through a bush towards the girl. As he passed through the bush, his boot lace managed to get snagged, and he nose dived straight into the dirt at the girls feet. Disco dashed through the bush after him and landed at his fallen side, with his claws at his hips, standing firm and strong, staring at the girl, all majestic like.

Beatrix sighed for a second watching a butterfree roam around head of her, at good distance. Then there was some person disturbing the quiet by yelling at the top of his voice. "DISCO! LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEE!" Then a pidgy took off from the bush. She caught some more quiet talking before the man let out another yell, startling every other Pokémon in the forest out of their wits. It was actually very beautiful. One moment it was calm and quiet,t hen she was amazed as the entire forest took flight. insects and birds flew around her and away from that noise. It was as if the forest itself was alive and in that beautiful moment she was very happy. It was rare to see almost all the Pokémon move at once, almost elegant. Though she had to feel sorry for them. They were probably scared out of their wits. And then, with a few cries, it was over. The great sight had come and gone quickly, leaving her wondering who was making such noise.

Turtwig was looking around, spinning slightly as it wanted to look in all directions at once as the Pokémon fled. As they vanished Turtwig fell flat on it's face looking dizzy. "Beautiful huh turtwig. You know I think I need to give you a name." Turtwig thought it over when he regained his composure a bit, enough to stand back up on his four legs. He nodded happily. "Twig!" Beatrix nodded and walked further a few steps, noticing that the butterfree she had been watching had fled as well. But they were probably inching their way back into the forest.

Beatrix hid her mouth with her hands trying to fight back a laugh as she had heard something about stealth before the second yell. However she could not contain herself when the poor guy ran straight out of the forest and tripped over his own shoe at her feet. A charmander running behind him stood proudly. As if it imitated him. Turtwig did that sometimes. Beatrix found it very cute. So that was stealth. She had not even been trying to sneak, merely walking along, and had not disturbed anything. This poor guy being stealthy had disturbed half the forest it seemed. Heck she was surprised the trees themselves did not uproot and flee. "umm...hello?" Beatrix maintained her calm, trying not to laugh, but it shone through without sound. A wide happy smile instead of a laugh. She extended her hand to offer to help him up. "...Is there anything I can do to help you?" Beatrix said with her large smile. Turtwig was investigating charmander, sniffing it lightly while watching it.

The small fire Pokémon stood still, still in it's previous majestic pose as the Turtwig made it's way over. Disco just ignored the grass Pokémon as it sniffed and snared at him, instead, Disco kept his gaze planted on Beatrix to show that he means business. John let out a little groan before looking at the girl standing before him. She had a smile on her face and it was evident that she was trying not to laugh on his behalf. Her hand was extended downwards for him to use to help stand up. John just laughed and rolled onto his back, where he then immediately kipped back up, with his feet shoulder width apart and his hand extended, pointing at the female trainer. It was at this moment that Disco cut his gaze from Beatrix, and shot a glare down at the Turtwig. Just like his master, he pointed his paw out, with one claw pointed straight at Twig's dome.

"Ha HA! That was just a test to see how well you react in the face of danger... You passed! And as I assumed, you have a Pokémon with you. And if you have a Pokémon, and I have a Pokémon, it only seems right that we meet in battle."

John now put his hands on his hips and extended his chest outwards, trying to make him look as big as possible, as if trying to scare off an Ursaring. Disco did a quick backwards roll so that he was parallel with his master, before imitating the stance.

"Disco! Ready my entrance!"

The Charmander nodded before casting smokescreen around John. As John disappeared from sight, a few coughing noises could be heard. As the smoke faded, a silhouette of a man could be seen, kneeling on one knee, with arms extended high in both directions. Small flames erupted into the air and went out behind John, before he became fully visible again.

"BEHOLD! In the purple corner, stands the man known as, BIG TUUUUNAAAAA, JOHN MADIGAN! With Disco Inferno by his side, they are about to set your world, ABLAZE!

Beatrix sighed as the an rolled himself away before showing off some skills by kicking himself erect. But at least this guy had a good sense of humor as he got himself up he seemed to laugh a bit. But then he had puffed himself up and started pointing at her. Beatrix watched for a second and noticed charmander was having some kind of staring contest. A battle? She had walked with turtwig, done some small basic training with herself and her Pokémon. She had trained it more for the endurance scope than speed, placing rocks on it's back, and in her backpack. She locked the camaraderie of training with your Pokémon not just having the Pokémon do all the work. They had done a little more training than that, but that one had been the most fun. Sure she was no Pokémon herself but she could at least try to go through it herself. She had enjoyed it. Of course she gave out before him, she had accidentally placed way too heavy rocks in her bag but it was funny enough. So she unloaded a few and continued.

But when her thoughts came back she payed more attention to the charmander than the trainer. It was cute how it imitated him so entirely. "Yeah sure aside from a little training, we haven't gotten really any battle experience. As a trainer this will be my first battle actually. I guess I have nothing to loose from a friendly batt..." But the man had vanished into a cloud of smoke. Turtwig hid behind her for a few seconds. It was hardly a second before the trainer started coughing a bit. Beatrix sighed a little under her breath and waited for it to clear. Then, after a couple seconds the smoke started clearing and a burst of flame shot out from behind the trainer which was kneeling down in some sort of wrestling style pose. While the smoke had been clearing turtwig had gotten out and walked in front of her. Beatrix smiled still more broadly through when he introduced himself as 'Big Tuna.' She stopped herself from laughing, and resembled her own self after a second. She listened to his further introduction and turtwig walked around in front of her. He seemed ready to test himself. "Umm...my name is Beatrix, and...this is turtwig....I haven't really given him a proper name yet... Turtwig looks mroe than willing to battle so sure I guess we will have a battle! It's really more up to the Pokémon than us to be honest. They will be the ones fighting not us unless there is something I don't know about your battles."

John put up one finger to shush the girl. He hadn't finished his announcing, and if it was one thing that he despised, it was being interrupted. He let out a large sigh and then mutter something before taking in another deep breath, prepared to do another professional sounding announcement.

"Now where was I again.. oh yes. HE HAILS FROM SAFFRON CITY, KANTO! Weighing in at a LEAN, MEAN, TWOOO-HUNDRED AND EIGHT POUNDS!"

John stopped for a moment, looking puzzled, and he began to scratch the top of my head.

"No wait.. I think I was supposed to start with that. Let me start over. HE HA-"

Just then, Disco Inferno tugged at John's pants leg while looking up to him with big puppy eyes. John nodded and Disco returned to his stance and stood facing off with the Turtwig. John sighed once more before going back to his announcer voice.

"This will be an exhibition match. MANO Y MANO! The contestants can win by their opponent throwing in the towel, or by knockout!"

John spun around and pointed at Beatrix. Disco put up his claws in a sort of half fist, ready for a fight. John then went back to his regular voice, as if he was a completely different person than his announcer side.

"Ladies first, little missy. HAVE AT YOU!"

Beatrix shut her mouth as the man went on re introducing himself. Turtwig was nodding at the man transfixed by his weird movements. By the time the mans introduction was over turtwig was staring at him with an expression that said "what was that about?" and interestingly enough so was Beatrix. But she quickly disposed of it and regained her calm smile. "Thanks john. I must admit you know how to introduce yourself." Beatrix was a little irked however by the little missy comment.

Beatrix walked back a bit with Turtwig in front of her. Walking a short distance to get more room instead of trying to fight in a more cramped area. "As your wish John." Turtwig took off at decent speed towards the charmander, jumping quickly off a large rock and heading to give charmander a good tackle. Many turtwig are very fast but Beatrix did not bother with training him for great speed as he would loose all his speed when he evolved. It would be a waste of time. So he was not as fast as he could be, but quick enough. After a jump he came down with his body aiming to tackle the charmander.

The battle was about to begin, and John had finally decided to get serious. He let out one little chuckle as he smirked wide on his left side, and he dug his boots into the soft forest earth. John clenched his fist as the Turtwig began to bolt forward at a brisk pace. Disco Inferno was ready, and the show was about to begin.

"Sssss-mokin'!"

Suddenly Disco began to let smoke flow from it's opened mouth, causing the surrounding area to be swallowed up by a thick gray cloud. The momentary distraction was all was necessary for Disco to dodge the incoming tackle. Disco quickly scurried to the right, but not before connecting a scratch on the back of the turtle Pokémon.

"I don't know if you just saw that or not, but that was Disco doin' a little disc scratching on your little Turtwig.... if you've had enough, you could always throw in the towel. There's no shame in losing to a team as good as us!"

Jack began to laugh once more as the smoke began to disperse from the area. When everything became visible once more, Disco was standing on a nearby rock with his claws clenched, a smirk on his little orange face. John nodded to his Pokémon, who nodded in return and spun around. All of a sudden little embers began to jump off of Disco's tail, and they began to float towards Turtwig at as fast pace.

((OOC: Note to anyone reading this other than me and John: if anything one of us says connects instead of saying he/she tried, went to, etc, it was arranged between us in chat likely. It was arranged charmander would hit turtwig. just so no mods get mad at him. :3 ))

Turtwig had set off on an attack without Beatrix's word. But then again it didn't matter to her. Turtwig was the one fighting, he should make some choices. As the charmander let out a smokescreen she sighed. It was a miss. Charmander was standing on a rock as it cleared and Turtwig had a scratch on his back. And before she could see clearly the sall wound on his back the charmander had flames coming at turtwig. Beatrix still said nothing. such a scratch was nothing. She had started training turtwig for endurance. Turtwig shook his head, clearing his mind. "Twig Tur" He said before seeing the embers coming towards him. He jumped and darted away for a second, then dashed towards the charmanders head for a tackle. Turtwig was not stupid, he wasn't about to go firing leaves at a fire Pokémon without some strategy. Beatrix thought it best to give him some advice. "head on can get you in trouble." Beatrix did not merely belch out orders, but let Turtwig have the reigns for his first battle. While she ordered in other battles Turtwig needed to aquire his own fighting instincts should she give him a bad order by mistake. Turtwig stopped for a second and launched a razor leaf from the right of charmander and dashed again from in front of charmander. A diversion.

As the Turtwig charged Disco, he was caught off guard. A leaf came flying by, looking as if it was going to be a miss, but by instinct, Disco swung his tail over, and the embers from the tail engulfed the small leaf. But before Disco had time to reposition himself off the last deflection, he was immediately hit by a tackle from the Turtwig. Stunned, Disco laid his tail down on some dry leaves and engulfed them, created a small fire wall between the two Pokémon. It was clear that Disco Inferno had had his pride hurt, as he had expected the small turtle Pokémon to be a cake walk. The fact that he had actually been nicked heavily weighed on his mind. John noticed this in his Pokémon and tried to talk him back into his senses.

"Alright Disco, forget about it! You're the stronger one here! Don't let it-"

Suddenly the flame on the tail of the Charmander grew as it began to hop around. Disco had lost his cool. He quickly charged in blindly at the Turtwig, swinging wildly. The Turtwig sidestepped and Disco fell through with his scratch attempt. Instead of hitting Beatrix's Pokémon, Disco instead launched his right claw deep into a nearby bush. Suddenly a loud whine was heard coming from inside of the bush. John quickly averted his attention to the bush, noticing that his Charmander appeared to be fine, but also intrigued on what had made the noise.

A flash of light shot out of the bushes and connecting hard on Disco, sending him flying back a good five feet, landing hard on his back. Disco began to recover as a bright yellow Pikachu began dashing out of the bushes at Disco. Before the Pikachu could strike with a tackle Disco was able to put up a smoke screen. The disoriented Pikachu stopped dead in it's tracks, looking through the smog, looking to regroup and continue it's assault. John quickly whipped out his Pokédex and identified the Pikachu.

"It appears that our match will have to continue some other time! LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, WE WILL NOW HAVE AN INTERMISSION! For your viewing pleasure, we will now see the great BIG TUNA, JOOOOOOHN MADIGAN display his ability to catch the one that chooses to interfere in a league rule's match!

Beatrix watched as turtwig launched himself into the charmander, knocking it over. The charmander seemed to become enraged and it's tail flame grew bigger and set fire to some dry leaves, setting the area between them on fire. Not huge flames, but flames none the less. It ran at him and turtwig simply dodged. "Twig!" turtwig replied as the charmander blew by him hitting the bush. A cry came from the bush and an angry pikachu lit up charmander like a streetlamp. But before anything else could happen, when charmander got up, a smokescreen blanketed it, preventing an attack. As john began his talk about catching it Beatrix sighed feeling sorry for the pikachu.

However, while she was distracted there was movement in the trees. The flames on the ground, and the smoke from burning dried leaves , n to to mention the electrical attack, had surprised and started some other Pokémon. A group of pidgies were started, and that was not all. With all their noise they had startled an ariados. As the small amount of smoke rose into the trees before the flames ran out of dry fuel, and not being large enough to burn living plants, they were doomed. The smoke had further started the Pokémon, triggering instincts to flee. As the pidgies flew away chirping about, the ariados, not being able to fly, fell out of the tree by mistake. As Beatrix watched the pikachu wondering how the fight would turn out, she heard birds flying off from above. The small amount of smoke, combined with the lack of much wind in the forest, what small smoke there was went into the air instead of blowing away. Beatrix felt a sudden lurch backwards Suddenly she was on the ground, her backpack beside her, with a large ariados on her chest.

The Pikachu and Disco were engaged in an epic staring contested. Neither flinched as the smoke cleared, standing across a clearing in the forest by about fifteen feet. Disco began to drum his belly, showing the Pikachu that his confidence was increasing and that his strength would not be matched in this battle. This seemed to get the wild Pikachu upset as it began to dash forward, attempted to hit a volt tackle. Disco was able to dodge the flailing Pikachu, and it shot past, stopping itself short of hitting a large rock.

"Hit it with a power slide, Disco!"

Disco acknowledged John's orders by unearthing a medium sized rock, before hurling it at the Pikachu. The rock smashed off of the rock the Pikachu was previously standing next to, as it dove out of the way. Despite dodging the full impact, the broken rock pieces began to rain down on the Pikachu, causing it to be pelted by many small sharp rock slabs. Not giving the Pikachu any time to recover, Disco charged up to the Pikachu and connected with a dragon rush, causing significant damage. The Pikachu was knocked backwards, but quickly regained composure, despite having barely enough energy to stand. Sparks began to fly from the cheeks of the Pikachu as it let out a cry of "Pi-ka-CHU!". A thunder wave came crashing down on Disco before he could get out of harms way, causing him to be knocked down. The damage was minimal, but when he got back to his feet, he would fall down once more due to the electric current racing through him. It was obvious Disco was no longer in fighting condition at the moment. The Pikachu began to smile, figuring it had one, and just then a Pokéball connected with it's head!

The Pikachu was sucked inside the ball, appearing as a red flash of light before disappearing inside of the sphere.

Shake...

John stood anxiously, clenching his fists.

Shake...

Sweat beads began to form on John's forehead, one quickly slid down around the outside of his left eye. Everything seemed to be going slower as he watched the Pokéball remain still for a moment.

...

Shake....

As it shook once more, John took in a deep gulp, leaving a large lump in his throat.

...

The ball quit moving at it was apparent that the Pikachu had been caught. John jumped in the air with his fists high above his head. He quickly ran over to the ball and brought it over to Disco, when he finally realized that Beatrix, the trainer he had battling, was in a battle of her own.

Beatrix moaned a bit before catching sight of the ariados and finding out exactly what the thing on her chest was. "Turtwig? Tur tur twig!" Turtwig seemed to be angry at the spider for hurting her and rushed in for a tackle. Beatrix cried out as the turtwig bashed the spider off of her, and you can bet the spider was not happy at all. After all it was not her fault she fell. Ariados jumped forward and atacked turtwig with shadow sneak. Turtwig took a hit and rolled backwards, hitting a tree trunk. Once turtwig had recovered he used stockpile to increase his defenses. Beatrix knew turtwig did not know spit up or swallow, but the increased defense would help. Turtwig then attacked the ariados with razor leaf, but it was not affective.

The ariados shot some sort of electrified web at Turtwig. Turtwig fell to the ground and couldn't get up for a second, and when he could he was having a hard time keeping his speed up, he was tired, and electro-web had that effect. The ariados went in for a bug bite, and Beatrix threw her bag in between them. She got in front of turtwig to black any attack. Turtwig was a grass type, therefore weak to bug attacks, and the poor injured turtwig had little hope of dodging as tired as he was. However the bag started ariados enough, and Beatrix threw her own Pokéball.

However the first one merely sucked it in , but after a second it came out again. It claws at her backpack in front of her and turtwig, and turtwig ran around, limping slightly, and tackled it. Hoping to end it, Beatrix threw an other Pokéball. And the battle of wills started. Both of them hoping they could either escape, or that the other would be caught. The Pokéball seemed to shake and jiggle around. In hope that it would help Beatrix picked it up and tried to make it hold still. This failed miserably as now her arms were shaking. After what felt like five minutes, probably only one minute, it was over, and the ball was still in her hands.

"Sorry John, i think we need to head to town and heal up before we continue." Beatrix panted, while Turtwig stared at the ball.

John saw as the female trainer managed to catch the Ariados in two attempts. John looked down at the Pokéball with his new acquisition as well. Though they had just been enemies, he felt some sort of respectful bond between the two, causing him to smirk a little, while turned away from Beatrix so that she wouldn't be able to notice it.

"Sorry John, i think we need to head to town and heal up before we continue."

John hated to agree with something that wasn't his idea, but Beatrix was right. His newly acquired Pikachu was beaten badly in the previous fight, and his Charmander was suffering mild paralysis. After deciding he could do nothing more for Disco, he pulled out his Pokéball, aimed it at Disco, and watched as the ball sucked him inside. He never liked cooping up Disco due to the bond they had developed over almost the last decade, but in an instance like this, he had no choice. After surveying his surroundings and placing both of his Pokéballs on his belt, he realized that he had no idea where he was. This was the first time in the week he had been in town that he had actually wandered so far into the forest. Feeling disheartened, he sighed and started making his way over to Beatrix.

"As you said, it would appear that our battle will have to wait. My Pokémon fought their hearts out just now against each other, and as their trainer, there's no way I'd let them get back in the ring, er, battle. Now, I'm pretty new to these parts seeing as I've grown up in the city most of my life... and I seemed to have forgotten where the entrance and exit's are. If you'd like to show the way, I'd appreciate the gesture.. and maybe, just maybe, I'll let you off the hook for our battle. What do you say?"

So he might let her off the hook? She didn't really want off the hook. She was glad to have a battle, though this guy was definitely weird. There was that strange wrestling obsession. And now he had a pikachu and a charmander. The battle was not looking good. Both her Pokémon were weak to fire. "Okay we are not too far into the woods,t he trees would be thicker, but it may take a little travel." Beatrix heaved her backpack back onto her back and sighed as she recalled turtwig into his ball with a frown. "Sorry, but you need rest not to walk much more." Beatrix looked around to get her bearings. She turned to face the opposite direction before placing turtwigs ball inside a pack on her waist. "Okay town is this way." Beatrix reached and grabbed a plastic bag from her backpack, and withdrew a smaller plastic bag from it, before placing the larger back pack inside the pack. With Ariados's Pokéball still there, she released the Pokémon, which was not as hurt as turtwig, which had takken a hit or two before fighting ariados. She withdrew some beef jerky and fed the ariados before tossing a couple sticks to john. " I fed turtwig before we met, but your Pokémon could probably use a snack." Beatrix took a bite from her own jerky, before kneeling towards Ariados. "I'm sorry about that. Don't be too mad. Turtwig is very protective of me. He probably thought you were hurting me. My apologies."
