Administrator Posts: 279 Group: Admin Member #1 Joined: December 7, 2010	I believe it's time for It's Super Effective to come to an end. Running a forum RP is hard work. Maybe I'm just not cut out for it. Not while I'm in school, work, and have other projects I'm working on at this time. But I'm smart and started it anyway, because every idealistic, first time (did I mention this was the first time I started an RP?) administrator has an ideal goal of creating an environment that draws a large, active community. The community because self-sustaining, with a big cast of members of staffers, filling its boards with life. Maybe the administrator could back off, let moderators run things, and maybe not have a huge responsibility. But of course this did not happen. Some might say I didn't give it enough time, or that we just haven't had our lucky break, but I honestly don't see an upward trend at all. But why? Remember, as I've said before, I made Super Effective not just because I love Pokémon but because I dislike the Pokémon video games. The past few were just boring to me. All I wanted was to have the Pokémon experience exactly the way I wanted it. And in that respect, I succeeded. We did something great here and I had a lot of fun. But not enough people joined. And it dawned on me that people join forum RPs to have new experiences. And all I wanted was to "fix" what I thought was a bad experience. But most people have no problem with the Pokémon games, and play them to get that story. Traveling the world, collecting badges by fighting gym leaders, battling organized crime gangs. Super Effective offered nothing unique and original. I was so determined to recreate the Pokémon experience that it turned out to be the site's downfall. I never expected my first ever forum RP to get this far. Bravo. But it won't go much further without an original experience different from the Pokémon video games, and members drawn to that experience. I consider ISE to be a prototype. It models the kind of gameplay and storytelling that I love and enjoy, and will likely use in the future. Maybe in a Pokémon RP with a more original style? Something that you can't get in the video games? I've been thinking about some kind of Pokémon boarding school, where all the students are workers/mercenaries for the Pokémon League, and travel around the world on missions. Some of my favorite gym leaders (Brock, Misty, Erika, etc.) would be teachers at the school, and the gameplay would be a combination of social school life, freeform adventures around the campus and surrounding area, and quests around the Pokémon world. Think like, a cross between Hogwarts and Balamb Garden and Pokémon. Would be fun, right? And it's unique enough from the games that I'd expect it to draw more membership. The cons are that it'd require more time and energy to run, and I do not have enough of these things at this stage in my life. At this time, it's definitely not happening. I have spoken to Dogma, and we have shelved the idea for the time being. But perhaps we will consider it again in the future, such as during the summer when free time is abundant and forum RP activity is high. But, if it ever does happen, I invite all of you to transfer your characters from ISE over to it! They'd all work out nicely. Now, what to do with ISE? Well, for starters, I plan to finish the two threads I am in, because frankly, they are badass. The characters are all awesome and I'm having fun. Trust me, I'm not bored, I just don't think the site can get anywhere as it is now. After those are done, I'm going to leave the site here, and maybe just deactivate the Pokédex, and just let you guys screw around and do whatever you guys feel like here. Godmod, make overpowered characters, whatevs, until you get bored and leave, I guess. Hey, maybe I'll even dick around a little. I'm wary about turning over the reins to someone else because my name's still on everything and I don't want my name attached to whatever crazy shit might take over here. So we're just going to go for a nice, casual winding down of site activity. I harbor no hard feelings whatsoever if you choose to join another Pokémon site. By all means, post links to other RP sites here, so no one is left hanging and everyone finds a place to go. In fact, may I even recommend ZRPG.net? This is the Legend of Zelda forum that I am a moderator on. Part of the reason why I don't have time for ISE is because I need to focus on ZRPG more. It's quite successful and very fun. And of course, who knows, maybe my Pokémon Academy idea will someday become a reality. If that ever happens, you guys will be contacted telepathically through the lifestream. This was a hard decision to make because I like all you guys and thought you'd be devastated. But honestly you are all big boys. And on second consideration I realized that some of you might be sad but no one would be crushed. It's just a game, and games end, and life goes on, and I know you guys know that. I just hope you find other games to suit you that are really fun. Well, that's all I have to say. Not going to make this dramatic by dragging it on forever. This was an EXCELLENT experience, and you all made it more successful than I could have ever hoped for.
