Challenge Nine For this challenge, you will be playing the card game Battle Line. There are 60 cards in the deck, numbered 1-10 in 6 different colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Each tribe will be dealt 7 cards to begin. There are 9 different flags that will be lined up in a row. There are 2 sides to each flag, one for Tandang and one for the Bomb Squad. On your turn, you will play one card from your hand on one of the nine flags, and then draw another card from the deck. Each flag can hold 3 cards on each side. The goal of the game is to be the first to "claim" 5 of the 9 flags, OR 3 adjacent flags. A flag can be claimed if the "formation" on your side of the flag is better than the formation on the opponents side. This is determined by the following order, from best to worst:
If both sides of a flag have the same type of formation, then the side with the higher total sum of the cards will claim the flag. If this is still a tie, then the side that finished the formation first will claim the flag. You can claim a flag at any time during your turn. You are allowed to claim a flag if both sides are complete, OR if your side is complete, and you can prove using the other cards already played that it is impossible for your opponent to win the flag. Once a flag has been claimed, no more cards can be played on it. We will be using a Google Spreadsheet to display the board, and a separate spreadsheet for each tribe to show your hand. Each tribe will also be given a chatzy to communicate with each other for the duration of the challenge. However, all moves must be posted in this thread. You will have 10 minutes to ask any questions; following that, we will flip a coin to determine who begins, and you will have 4 minutes for each one of your turns, which will begin whenever the other tribe has posted their move. If you miss a deadline for your turn, you will receive a strike, and if you receive more than 3 strikes, you will automatically lose the challenge. |

Are the cards we play on the flags revealed to the other tribe or are they hidden until the flag is completed? |

Jessie: Your cards will be played publicly so the board will be entirely revealed as it goes. Only the cards in your hand and the ones in the deck will be secret. |

The challenge begins now. Tandang, you begin. You have 4 minutes to play a card on any one of the nine flags. |
