Alright, let's get the ball rolling on this one, I want to win this time around. First things first: Regardless of what else you do, put at least 1 soldier into each fortress. I think there's a pretty good chance someone on the enemy tribe is going to hold back all their soldiers to claim the reward, and putting at least one soldier into everything guarantees an outright win over such a player. Anyway, the first strategy that comes to my mind for my soldier placement is something of a high/low grouping. Put next to nothing in a few of the strongholds, and divide the vast majority of your troops evenly across the remainder. For instance, something like 150 troops in six of the strongholds, and 25 troops in the remaining four. The other idea that comes to mind for me is utilizing WIFOM. Since you need to win more than five strongholds on average, I think it's unlikely that people will be putting more than 200 soldiers into any specific stronghold. With that in mind, an anti-meta strategy could be to put 205 soldiers into four strongholds, and 30 into the remaining six. Against my other strategy, this is guaranteed to take at least four strongholds (so it will never lose too badly), and six on average, and potentially up to eight if I'm lucky. So yeah, that's what I've come up with so far, but I'm having a hard time judging the relative merits of my ideas, since everything can be hard-countered by something, and this is very much a WIFOM-heavy challenge. Any thoughts? |

I think we should try different strategies, in case they all use the same strategy. To avoid obvious wifom-abilty we could do something like everyone chooses a random strategy from -10 in each - 1 in four, 16 in six, positions chosen at random - 5 in five, 15 in five, positions chosen at random - 31 in three, 1 in seven, positions chosen at random |

I think we should wait a bit, allow our troops to breed, and fight once we are finally at 1000. |

But I'll probably be going with a very drastic strategy of a lot in very few and then very little in the remainder. But also definitely always put one. |

I think soldier's strstegy is right (the one at the end) We want to get as many guaranteed wins as possible. I think that we need to make sure we put largr numbers on as many as possible. If 4 people put all of their troops on 4 and then the last person spreads theirs we would have a fairly good chance of winning right? |

I think the best strategy is to either go under 50 or between 95-100. Anything above 50 is unlikely to win if they go high and will win regardless if they go low so is a waste of troops. We need to gamble to a certain extent on where we put our distributions, but I think the best would be something like 100-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 0-100-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 0-0-100-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 0-0-0-30-30-40-0-0-0-0 0-0-0-0-0-0-30-30-20-20 obviously with the positions shuffled around. this would lead to our base totals being 100,100,100,40,30,30,30,30,20,20 any thoughts? we could switch the last 7 around to make them higher on some and lower on others or whatever |

I think you're misinterpreting how the scoring works. We don't add up all our troops for each tribe, it's done in a round-robin format, where each of us has a battle against each individual member of the other tribe. Putting all of your troops on one stronghold would only guarantee you win one stronghold and lose the other nine for a net loss of 40 points. |

For the record, I've gone ahead and made my submission. I'm using my first idea: Four on the first four strongholds, and 15 on the remaining six, with nothing held back. |

Im going to do the same as soldier except reversed. By that we should aggregate 60% win rate assuming no luck swings between us. |
