I'm actually going to work harder on improving this one. I am going to improve the blending of the sawtooth and deeper basslines. I am trying to go for a much fuller, warmer bass section without overpowering everything else. Thanks. |

Goofed around a bit today. I first messed around with creating some better reverb settings in Logic's Space Designer. I made a little piano loop and drum loop that I applied these too. Nothing special at all really. http://soundcloud.com/soundscape-elegance/reverb I also did a synth solo, featuring some solos from some other songs I have heard. Warning, these are not set to any tempo, so they are really off time. http://soundcloud.com/soundscape-elegance/synth-improv |

First one- drums way too loud and the type of drum doesn't match well at all. Second one- just badly remade Owl City tunes, you didn't even get the melodies right. |

I know the drums are loud. Again, this was a test of reverb, not mixing. Second, I know these are terribly done. Again, I was just messing around. Nothing perfect by any means. And thanks MK. Just posting cause I'm bored. |

So, I have been messing around with making rap beats for some kids at school. I am going to work really hard to get the mixing right on all this stuff. the composition stuff is clean, but I just gotta spend better time on the mix. Sorry, the bass is extremely and grossly too loud. My apologies. This is more experimental than anything really. I am not sure I will really continue making these. http://soundcloud.com/soundscape-elegance/rap-beat-samples By the way, by posting rough mixes, I am listening to critique, I am just really lazy. I promise you guys who actually listen, I will strive greatly to improve the mix on these. Edited by John, Jul 19 2012, 06:50 AM.

whoa that wobbling the claps are kind of laggy your claps are really wet and make them sound extremely awkward also this is rap so i wouldn't worry too much about the bass being loud! this really sounds like your typical rap stuff! you got the style down excellently. but the problem with that is that rap music like this tends to have extremely amateur musicality. dynamics are nonexistant, for example. but that just comes with the lack of education most rap producers have |

Agreed. I am glad I got the typical rap stuff. I will try to work in more dynamics so that it is much more pleasing. Thanks for listening MK. EDIT - *Gets inspired by MK posting singing so decides to post something as well* http://dl.dropbox.com/u/780866/06%20As%20You%20Sail%20the%20Open%20Air.mp3 Edited by John, Jul 19 2012, 08:59 PM.

vocals could be louder - in a song like this quiet vocals don't work da dadadada dada da dada da those claps and pizzicato strings are really standing out. i would filter them a bit so they don't overpower all your synths. also suddenly you chopped the piece down to piano aa! try to make that transition smoother and de-ess! de-ess your vocals like a motherfarksnarkleer. what kind of mic do you use, and do you use a pop filter? |

I will make the vocals a bit louder, but I want to blend them a bit more. To do this, I might boost the reverb slightly. I might mute those claps for now cause they are slightly annoying. I might send the pizzicatos and the claps to a bus track and make them slightly softer to where they blend together as a backing. And I use a really medicore mic. It is a audio-technica atr 20 :P |

Pretty cool! Through I really wish you'd sing without pitch correction software, it's really bugs me. But the song is pretty cool, just de-ess your vocals and make the end piano not so sudden - or a sudden build up stop. Whatever works best. |
