Gentlemen. Music's pretty damn sweet. I think we all know this -- it's an art that everybody has access to, in excess in our modern age. But what is it about music that you like - what is it about music that you hate? ITT: discussion of music, be it popular, classical or underground. I'll start. What do you guys think of hard rock? Five Finger Death Punch, Creed, Saliva, Disturbed, Halestorm, etc. Good shit or not? |

Music doesn't do this for me. It's more like a puzzle for me, something to try and solve -- to see how it works and why. I think it's strange for somebody like me, who proclaims that music is his life, to feel p much nothing when listening to music, or at least nothing to the extremes described here. Ok what i mean is, music is a lot to me, but i don't sit around and listen. Sometimes I do, and that's a great feeling, to just sit there and listen, but it gets old very quickly for me. Perhaps I just don't have enough genres downloaded. Actually, that's a problem with me. I never download music. I should, because I enjoy it, but I refuse to (unless it's free) because, as a musician, I respect the rights of the artist to not give their music away. (Of course, I, myself, have no problem with people sharing my music through piracy. I don't even sell my music. Some day I will, though. *dreams* |

Huh. Well, that actually is some pretty valuable knowledge. I've always wondered why some people didn't like the music that I felt so much from. But no one would tell me straightforward "I don't feel things from music." Do you like to listen to music when you do things? In my case: while doing household chores, while drawing, or while near sleep. |

When I do listen to music it's either to be inspired, when I'm working out, or when I'm trying to fall asleep. Music's like reading to me. Appreciable and calming. Sometimes I listen to music to observe it. I really suck at that though. EDIT: that doesn't make much sense for the working out thing -- listening to hard rock and metal pumps my blood, gets me ready to do what i do. So I guess I do feel things from music. I just dont let myself get into it, most of the time. Edited by Masquerade, Jul 31 2012, 12:41 AM.

I find music to be something as entire seperate world. Music is a tool I can use to express myself and bring out my inner creativity. It allows me to be unique in my own way. I agree with Plasmi here. Music has the capability to do so much. For me, it makes me inspired, encouraged, even torn down. Whenever I hear a piece, I try to discover what the artist is trying to tell. Whenever I listen to a song or piece, one of the follow things courses through my head: How did they do that? How do I make something like that? What kind of emotion are they evoking? What instrument is that? What synth is that? For my dislikes in music: I really hate any of the modern rock stuff, consisting of the generic: guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals. I like uniquely instrumented things, whether its electronic, orchestral, or pop music. Even though most pop music is shallow as crap, I listen to the instrumental version to listen to the unique synths that are crafted deep beneath the lead vocals. I really dislike screaming music because I can't understand the garble coming out of their mouth. I don't really enjoy rap. Rap is pretty shallow and consisting of the same instrumentation of rock songs, just synthesized. Actually, its more like: vocals, drums, BASS, BASS, and MORE BASS. Its things like hard rock, rap, and country music that I dislike because they don't evoke my mind to start asking the questions I listed above. It just goes in one ear and out the next. I understand that Owl City is not everyone's personal favorite on here. But the guy behind that project, Adam Young, is truly one of my favorite role models. His creativity is endless, as he is always trying to push the boundries, expanding his instrumentation and polishing his craft. He has this project called, Port Blue. He uses certain sound effects, layered undered filters of distortion, echo, even bitcrushers. Through that, he uses strings, basses, synths, pianos, audio samples, and more. It is mystifying and gives me chills as I wonder how he does it. Owl City, again, is the same. His lyrical diversity is refreshing, as well as his compositions. Anyways, yeah. I'm Nazma. |

Music is the one thing I seriously love. My tastes are everywhere though; pretty much everything is good except most country, rap, and well, anything ANYONE would consider to be terrible. I listen to music all day really. I just find it relaxing and inspiring...makes me happy. It can give off a lot of feelings and meaning, to me at least. Meaningful, powerful lyrics can add to that. Some music doesn't really give off those feelings and is just nice to listen too, such as some video game soundtracks or genres like dubstep. For me, songs can bring back wonderful and bad memories, freshly made or ages old, doesn't matter. I can't really choose any favorites, since I like so much. The last week or so, I've been in love with touhou arranges, so yeah. I agree with Plasmi as well. Edited by Datt, Jul 31 2012, 01:43 AM.

Metal and various forms of techno are damn good, but I also like folk and smooth jazz, as strange as that sounds. Lately I have been listening to harder versions of genres, namely techno (hardstyle, speedcore, gabber). I have always enjoyed death metal though; power metal is good too, and when they're merged into melodic death metal, well... it's almost always pleasant. In terms of folk, I love relaxing after tensions via celtic/gaelic music. It works best when walking about in the woods behind my house. |

I personally listen to music because I enjoy it. I don't "Feel" music, nor do I listen to it because I want it to change my mood, I just like listening to it. Not that I'm saying I don't somtimes get moved/inspired by it or that it doesn't somtimes change my mood, I just don't listen to it just for those reasons. Also I like basicly all music just as long as it has a good beat and I can understand what the person singing it is saying. So yeah. Oh look cows. ->

What are you REALLY afraid of?

Music is always there to change or further my mood, good or bad. Hard rock and all that is usually just to get me pumped up, while the rest lean towards letting my emotions out. That's not to say I cry and all that, but it's a nice break from reality. Otherwise it's just fun to listen to
