KNIGHT COMMANDER MAKES ANNUAL ADDRESS

The Head of State of the nation of Hospitalaria today made his annual address to the nation from the Fortress of St.John. This is the Knight Commander's 2nd speech and this year had an emphasis on foreign policy. The main part of his speech is reproduced below.

Speech

There was once a time when the influence of our people spread around the globe, our Knights stood shoulder to shoulder with people of all races and cultures in order to bring peace, stability and security to the world. We helped create prosperity, we helped create equality and we helped create communities, however our ancestors were punished for this influence. They then fled here, to the Isle, and on this blessed Isle they built a nation dedicated to maintaining its achievements of peace, stability, prosperity, equality and above all a community. The time has come however for this nation to cast aside the suspicions of the past and once more set forth into the world. This time it shall not be a Hospitallar Knight, clad in mail on a charging horse, his lance held ready, it shall be achieved through talk, through understanding and through hard work. It is my intention in the coming days to send a delegate to Deyang in order to take part in talks about the Terran Economic Forum, additionally I will be inviting the world to St.John's Citadel to discuss a range of issues including the establishment of the Hospitalaria Diplomatic Service. We must show bravery and not retreat from this amazing world in which we live in.

The rest of his speech focused on several up coming changes the Round Table will discuss and vote upon in the next few weeks.

* A reduction of income tax.
* Creation of tourism centres
* Formation of a Travelling Order to recruit globally.
* Establishment of a Marine Reserve
* Establishment of three new desalinisation plants for the island.
* Investment in green energy using wave power and offshore wind-farms.

CITADEL TO GET OVERHAUL

St.John's Citadel, the ancient fort which gives its name to the capital city, will receive a significant overhaul. The fort sits at the mouth of the islands biggest harbour and in times gone by was responsible for repelling several assaults on the city by foreign nations. The Citadel today is largely ceremonial however it does retain several defensive capabilities. It is thought however that much of the overhaul will be improving facilities there for the many staff of the Knight Commander. It is also thought that a larger than previously anticipated section shall be open to tourists. The Knght Commander even commented on the increase in tourist facilities saying. "The Citadel is a key part of our nations heritage, it should be something every Hospitallar treasures. It saved our life in times gone by and stood as a bastion of good in dark times. As a little boy I remember imagining being one of The Order in days long gone fending off hordes of savages. It's only right our nation can embrace its heritage."

It is thought however a series of anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles will be stationed providing the capital with defensive coverage, rumours also persist of an anti-missile defence system being established within the walls, however the Ministry of Defence declined to confirm this.

The Citadel will be closed to the public for the next six months to allow the changes to be made. In that time it is expected that Knight Commander Hugo Lascelles will relocate to the old Missionary College which used to train members of The Order for preaching overseas and is today a civil service building.
